Now that we are a week into the new expansion, the meta seems to be more defined than before and most powerful decks are standing out so far. Ranging from even/odd Paladins to Shudder Shaman, the meta seems to be really diverse and open to discovery. If you're facing too many control decks and are looking for a successful deck with a high skill cap, this deck is for you.
Recently, Rage hit #1 legend using his quest rogue list. What's unique about this list is that it runs 2 copies of vicious scalehide in favour of the more traditional fire flies. Since the nerf hammer struck down Patches, most Quest Rogue lists stopped running Valeera the Hollow due to the fact that it was too slow against most of the aggressive archetypes, and control match-ups were a win way more often than not.
However, with the potential for more control decks in the newly formed meta, as well as the fact that most aggressive decks have slowed down because of the rotations, Valeera seems to be a very solid choice against control and, more often than not, aggressive decks. Through the use of cards like Glacial Shard & Wax Elemental, you can easily extend the game long enough so that you would get an opportunity to play your Valeera, which would ensure that you would never run out of juice for the remainder of the game.
Your primary goal is to complete the quest as fast as possible, while maintaining a reasonable health total that guarantees your survival. The best possible 'bounce' target to complete the quest with is Novice Engineer, since it gets you even closer to completing the quest with every draw. This deck is quite difficult to pilot, so don't be put down if you find it difficult to play, even many professionals think so.

As usual, video that spotlights the high-end potential of the deck. If you are confused on how to pilot the deck, make sure to check the video out, as he explains every single move he makes.

I struggle a lot against Aggro (paladin, hunter, Druid and odd rogue). Any advice or card replacements ? I find fan of knives useless against minions in general.
I played the version with Valeera & FOK but I got crushed by aggro. Now, I replaced those 2 cards by two Swamp Leech, not sure it will help...
Should I stop playing this deck if I face many aggro decks ?
Thanks !
i wouldn't tech in too much against aggro. This decks intent is to farm slow control decks. If you play much against aggro at your rank i would switch the deck for better chances
Crap. That’s a pity as the ladder is full of cancerladin... wish I could make this deck a bit more aggroproof without too much lose its power against control.
The only cards i think would be replaceable against aggro are Valeera and sap. Quest-rogue is some skill intensive deck and requires good decision making. I would just practice and learn more about the matchups. I think quest-rogue is a little bit like cubelock where experienced players perform much better with the deck. But if you face only aggro i would play warrior or warlock . They beat aggro pretty consistently and it doesn't stresses you so much to overthink every turn just to beat some stupid facedecks
Rank 3 with Quest Rogue feelsgoodman. Hope to hit legend.
Yeah, so as soon as you put this deck together all the sudden you only play against Uthers and their swarms of recruits and it's gg. And this is at the bottom of level 20. This game has become a glorious pile of crap with a matchmaker that fixes the matches and ***holes who sit around the bottom levels to beat on players.
just keep playing. My winrate vs aggro is like 40 percent, and is like 70 percent vs control.
I actually had a lot of fun playing quest rogue pre-nerf haha (I also had lots of fun with freeze and exodia mage, so sue me). I dusted the quest after the nerf though and I don't have Zola. How sad is this deck actually against paladins? Is it mostly a lost cause? Same against spiteful druid?
It would be good to have the extra deck in my arsenal, and I love rogue decks. I just don't know how ready I am to craft this deck if it is that "rock-paper-scissors" ish. Although it would be nice to punish cubelocks lol.
its hard against paladin.
It's pretty sad, but beatable if a decent or good mulligan. With a good mulligan, you can soak up quite a bit of damange with wax elemental and glacial shard. If you manage to live and complete the quest, viscious scalehide heals for a lot, valeera gives you one extra turn and more burst, and wax elemental becomes a huge headache. You can also burst them down pretty quickly once you finish the quest. I'd give it perhaps a 30% unfavourable matchup? With a bad mulligan, it's basically unbeatable though, where you're basically trading boars and deckhands into their hero power.
How do you beat cubelock ? after they play a giant or weapon I usually lose due to the pressure of doomguard or protected giants with voidlord
Use Glacial Shard to complete the quest. And hope to find Vanish
You can’t! Pretty useless deck. Warlocks, Paladins and Hunters , everyone’s having you while you’re collecting your cards.
Take it with a grain of salt, but I've been playing this deck from 15, and have achieved 3 win streaks, and now sit at 7 and 5 stars. All in a matter of a few days (whenever I first posted here, that's when I started playing this deck... I imagine it was earlier this week)
This deck has a higher skill-cap to play correctly than most people will give it credit for. Coming off of a positive win ratio against all three classes you've mentioned, the best advise I can give you is to keep practicing. Knowing when to push for quest completion vs. when to protect yourself against an aggressive board will take you some time to get a feel for.
Start looking at the weaknesses opponents like Warlock possess. e.g.: A couple of 3/9's on board can be a blessing. I've won games simply by drawing out 6 1/3 taunts, without giving them an opportunity to kill off any of their minions. If they can't kill off any of their minions, and you don't give them a minion to attack -- their winning combo is pretty much non-existent. I've stalled games with this technique -- thrown up 0/2 taunts, and then draw into prep vanish with enough steam to finish the game behind the clear board.
Hunter giving you trouble? Start bouncing your Glacial Shard.
In my opinion: if you haven't completed your quest by turn 7-8, you either had terrible luck, or are not choosing your mulligan correctly. If you aren't taking advantage of the synergies that exist between Sonya, Stonetusk and vanish -- fix that. Once you have Valeera out, it's pretty much impossible to lose unless you've played cards you shouldn't be playing until she's on board.
I hadn't considered Valeera the Hollow. Do quest rogue decks usually go late enough in the game that it's necessary?
Yes. Against control decks, it let's you "create" cards for more burst or heal or taunt when you return a second copy to hand. That "created" copy and then be doubled again the next turn, and the doubled copy, if you're lucky, can be returned to hand again. That turns out to be super useful in a control matchup where it may take a little while longer to complete your quest, because for one turn, you are safe by playing the DK, and the next turn you can usually swing the board, while guaranteeing ammo for the turn after.
Yes, against aggro it's useless, but you're most likely going to lose that anyway. I think it's worth a slot.
People tend to concede the moment you activate Crystal Core...
This deck with decent draw is possibly the worst thing to play against in Hearthstone history. Just watching boars bounce for 4 turns and then taking 25 damage on turn 7 makes me want to quit.
And no, I'm not going to play aggro paladin to beat it.
So be a stubborn and loose. If anyone would adapt more to the meta instead to continue playng the same deck over and over, we'd have a lot more power shifts during the expansions... If you just continue to play the same deck over and over, no matter of the results, the meta is stale...
