Proof:
Hi all,
I just threw this deck together to test out how Genn Paladin would work, and it's working wonderfully. I went 30-3 on two long win streaks from Rank 16 to Rank 5. I lost to a warlock because of a bad draw, and to two priests: one that opened Northshire into Shadow Ascendant, and another that used Glimmerroots to steal Call to Arms and Spikeridged Steed. Those were the only priests I faced, so this deck might just have a bad matchup against the class.
My prior versions had Sea Giants, Corpsetakers and Vicious Scalehides, but those cards didn't work very well. I'm a little iffy on the Lost Spirits, because they're not the best pulls from Call to Arms, and it sucks when you draw them, but I just wanted to make sure I had enough 2-drops and Call to Arms targets if I have to play it off curve later on. You could consider swapping those with things like Hydrologist or Bloodmage Thalnos for more card advantage, or 2-drop tech cards like Acidic Swamp Ooze or Golakka Crawler depending on how the meta evolves. Master Swordsmith, Plated Beetle, and Millhouse Manastorm aren't bad options either, depending on how spicy you want your list to be. If you want to move more to the back end of the curve, you could consider finishers like Leeroy and Val'anyr, which go well together. However, this list did well for me, so I'll probably keep it this way until I feel things need to change.
Mulligan guide:
Since the meta is pretty new, there are no class-dependent mulligan strategies. Hard mulligan for Call to Arms, Knife Juggler, and Dire Wolf Alpha. Loot Hoarder isn't a bad keep either, since it allows you to have a better chance of drawing into Call to Arms on curve. On the play you want to have at least two 2-drops for turn 2 and 3, but on the coin you can have just one, because you can play two four drops on curve.
All in all, really enjoying this archetype. Might try to hit legend with it, but probably won't have the time for the grind. If only win streaks kept going through Rank 5...
Let me know if you have any questions, and I'd be delighted if this deck turns out to be tier 1 in the new meta ^_^
Cheers!
EDIT: After a few days of meta stabilization and playing in higher ranks, I've found that the top threats to this deck are: Baku Paladin, Warlock, and Shaman. I have had no issues with Hunter and other classes. In light of the match-up challenges, I have made the following edits:
-2x Lost Spirit +2x Wild Pyromancer
While Wild Pyro kills our own tokens and small creatures, it does wonders against opposing Paladins. Its combo with Equality is also very powerful and helps your match-up against the new Even Handlock decks that have popped up. Wild Pyro is, in general, a very strong tool for the control aspect of this deck.
-1x Truesilver Champion -1x Blessing of Kings +2x Consecration
Consecration fares a lot better against the Aggro decks out there right now, including Baku Paladin and Baku Hunter. It also combos very well with Equality.
-1x Ring the Bells +1x Rebuke
Rebuke is just too strong against the board clear classes, Level Up in Bakudin, Burn in Hunter, etc. Against Warlock, an early copy of this after a Call to Arms or some sort of swarm ensures that you can seamlessly go into Tarim. Against other classes, having this in the late game really helps you snuff out their big swing spells, or expensive board clears in the case of Shaman. I have not yet regretted having this card in hand and using it.
-1x Tirion +1x Silver Sword
I took the advice of the commentors here and made this swap. While Tirion is great in the value game, he's not very well suited for the current meta. Silver Sword ensures that you have an easier time closing out the game against control decks, before they outvalue you or lock you down. This is especially the case against Shaman, where you want to finish them off asap.
I have done some tech work on the deck and with the wisdom from this deck by Ghimire and ur2ezchaos's Dinosize Surprise deck who makes the case that Even Genn Paladin really isn't a dude paladin. Here's my changes (note: they have lead to comanding victories against Baku paladin, Cubelock and Control Priest in rank 8 &7):
The last piece to the puzzle is Crystal Lion. I feel its a great card and makes opponents spend resources to protect against. Even with no Jailors we will still have HP Tokens on the board and often this is a 4 or 5 drop and has value at those levels. Although I could see a world where they are dropped when/if better and more synergistic cards are released.
BIG props to Ghimire for this deck list and I think his decklist is a more stable laddering version, while the above options are more in tune with whats happening in the single digit ranks at the moment.
I have the same feeling regarding Even Pally : it's not a dude paladin but it fits a more controllish style imho.
I've watched too ur2ezchaos's Dinosize deck and made my own with some adjustments:
One thing I have seen over the past 10 games in Rank 9-8 is that we don't need to establish board control in first 3 turns like most other paladin decks. I will often trade off tokens while I gather up my own board clear and CTA. We can recover early in game, bait a board clear or two then set up our own board, hit them with a Rebuke and bring in a win condition such as Silver Sword or Sunkeeper Tarim.
Once I stopped sacrificing my 2 drops on the first 2-3 turns I found much better success. (Baku Hunter may be the exception to this as their removal is limited and with board control they have difficulty outpacing us.)
Tell me where I am wrong! =)
The only annoying thing versus Baku Hunter in the early game is the dumb candleshot.
sadly i cant make the cut with this deck
Where are you struggling? Maybe we can help. This deck really is your best Paladin bet against Baku Hunter/Paladin. Can be weak to control if you go to long but you should be able to get somewhere around 60% win rate until the lower ranks.
24-31 :/ Really bad winrate
Try to tech against decks u face alot... it´s a Tier1+ deck so u might practice more to get a good winrate.
I think you have to watch it being played and study the combos for each card. It helped me a lot since this is almost a technical deck. You must know every single effect of every card to get value trades and wins.
I played this deck defore patch (well normal version of dudes) and I had 60-70% win rate.
I'm just getting killed at turn 4-5 by retarded combos at rank 5...
This deck (as it stands while I write this) is very geared against Baku Hunter/Paladin and to a lesser extent (because they are simply overtuned atm) Warlocks. When a deck gets this specific you will have to be very careful on how you play it.
For instance against Baku Paladin I concede the first few turns with tokens as I find something to wipe their board. Once done I can recover and beat them with higher value cards than they can produce.
A lot success with the deck so far and noticed quite a number of priest increased as well.
what card can be use to replace Sunkeeper Tarim?
Climbed, ad casual, 15 to 6 with a variation of this deck (with Lich King, Dark convictions and Chan gangs). Dont you find yourself making awkward trades with wild pyros just to not kill your own board? Climbing on EU i rarely found a situation where Pyro equality would have helped me while equality consac has been a life saver a few times. I've been trying to add Vicious Scalehides to impact the board more actively (other than the Juggle roulette) after CtA.
i dont know what i do odd paladin or this one
odd paladin is more cheap than it but this build can be better than odd paladin?
I see this build has so much cards of Un'goro... But i think Tarim can be hof so 'll not lose dust idk
Tarim won't be HOF because he's an un'goro card and will rotate in a year.
This is interesting. Useful even in hand as we do have the standard buff spells Blessing of Kings and Spikeridged Steed. However I am not sure (and maybe someone can clue me in) if we would get the other spells back like: Equality and the effects of Sunkeeper Tarim?
This may seem ignorant, but I have never used that card.
I've done the same thing after facing too many faster Baku Hunters on the ladder, it really speeds up the deck's potential with maintaining board control and getting quick face hits early on. It helps counter the Ironbeak Owls I've been seeing as well. Good call bud!
genn btw
