Sick of playing and versing the same 5 decks over and over again?
So am I, so I've been messing around with one of the more difficult archetypes, the control shaman, so far hit rank 5 from rank 12 this season but I still feel like this deck can be improved a bit so feel free to provide some card suggestions.
DECK RUNDOWN:
This deck is taking advantage of a seriously undervalued card, Guild Recruiter to pull out some mega value from either Drakkari Defender or Flamewreathed Faceless for some huge swing turns.
We're also taking advantage of the classic Earth Elemental and Ancestral Spirit combo to stall out and take the mid-late game victory.
The jade package is standard in any Shaman control deck but if you don't have Aya Blackpaw you can try replace her for a 2nd Thing from Below
Finally the Lesser Sapphire Spellstone is your shock finisher. You'll be surprised how often you managed to duplicate a triple Earth Elemental with Ancestral Spirit on it into an immediate concede by your opponent.
It's also a great card to cast on a 0 cost Corridor Creeper to pull 20/20 worth of value in one turn.
HOW TO PLAY:
The deck can be a little tricky to pilot at first and requires a lot of knowledge of what your opponent is likely to be playing, however there are a few basic rules against particular archetypes.
Aggro:
Our favorite opponents are aggro decks, particularly lotus druid and paladin, we have so many tools to deal with them it honestly feels unfair. So if you suspect your versing an aggro deck make sure you mulligan hard for any of your AoE, your Devolve, and Drakkari Defender is also a great card to have in hand.
Against Aggro all your trying to do is clear board and set up enough unbreakable walls until your opponent gives up. Make sure to prioritize clearing board instead of swinging for face, though you'll have to make judgement calls on when to swap to the classic SMORC tactics.
Control:
Against control, you really want to have Lesser Sapphire Spellstone in your hand right at the beginning. Otherwise the way to beat control decks is by playing Flamewreathed Faceless by turn 4 or Guild Recruiter by turn 5 so make sure to keep these cards in your mulligan. The basic plan against control is actually to win by turn 7-8 before the opponent can clear our massive health minions.
There really just isn't enough respect for a turn 4 7/7 these days, it's time for people to fear shaman curve once more.
That's your basic run down of how to play and what this deck does, will provide a more detailed mulligan guide if we get enough interest.
Have fun and look after your cows, and remember, cool kids don't play highlander priest.
EDIT: Hey guys here is a video of Kiwiinbacon piloting the deck.
With all the interest this deck has garnered recently I will be putting up a detailed mulligan and match up guide. So look forward to that!!!
New Archtype, waste of dust
I'm not gonna lie or pretend everything is cool, this is the weakest shaman deck I've ever played.
Some things I don't like :
I know that this deck plays around recruiter but this card along with earth elemental and ancestral spirit tend to have the worst value in the end. The rest of the deck consist of good cards that can grant you some power by their own.
-Recruiter puts some serious restrictions on deckbuilding (like the restriction of some OP 2-drops).
-Earth Elemental is supposed to give you a tempo swing but most of the times it ends as a good tempo swing for your opponent.
-Ancestral Spirit is a good 2015 combo card. Come on!
This deck lacks in efficiency, now there are just better ways to gain value. Even a totem + bonemare = 4/4 charge/taunt + 5/5 on t7
It just seems as a classic try-hard deck that also isn't good against anything. It suffers from aggro and is outvalued from control
What a fun deck to play with. Nice work.
I removed the Earth Elementals, one Jade Lightning and one Far Sight and added:
+2 Silver Vanguard, The Lich King and Al'Akir the Windlord
It's fun, albeit not viable in ranked.
If you manage to keep the Silver Vanguard and trade it, you have plenty of mana left to buff or spellstone your 8-cost minion.
Thank you for sharing with us this deck.
Previous comments developed good points about Meta and draw flow for Control Shaman archetype but it gives some nice ideas to test the Guild Recruiter.
Finally a nice shaman deck. I have to be honest, in this meta it's so hard to find space for something new but hey this seems to work fine. I will do more games and I will give my response. Atm take my +1 for the hard work.
Is it bad that since I didn't have Visions that I just threw in 2 Acolytes? Sometimes it's more card draw, but then mostly it's not. Seems okay so far xD
Dont let this nice looking deck distract you from the fact that Mr Krabs sold Spongebob for 62 cents
This is a really fun deck. Like some other comments said it needs more card draw but its really great to play.
+1 (wish I could up it more) Great deck!
This actually seems legit. can it be? O.O
Fun deck to try a casual game or two with...one suggestion I would make would be to replace Thing from Below with Snowfury Giant as you're running a fair number of overload cards. You can get value with your spellstone with snowfury just as with Earth Elemental.
While I highly encourage people to try off-meta decks this list is fairly expensive for a F2P player, requiring quite a few epics to work. On that note I just want to caution people that this deck is not nearly as consistent against agro as the guide would have you believe. The biggest issue by far with control shaman atm is the utter garbage card draw available to standard shaman. Two far sights just isn't enough to reliably get the resources you need to keep up with decks like agro paladin or tempo rogue, both of which have far better resource generation and card draw than you do and can reliably replace their threats in most situations.
Against agro this deck just doesn't have what it takes to consistently win, you just need to topdeck too much for it to work. Against decks like warlock or priest you just get flat out beat by either early Doomguards, or a wall of void taunts you can never get through with this deck unless you get very, very lucky with your Hexes and Devolves or your big combo just get Psychic Screamed into your deck and you have no card draw to recover. The absolute best case scenario against warlock is Devolving both Doomguards and Hexing both Voidlords, but their list is going to either run Rin and Twisting Nether or weapon + Doomguards. So even in the most ideal case possible where you alter all their demons they will still have either the clear to remove your threats, in which case you just can't beat Gul'dan hero power into late game fatigue or your get your deck blown up by Rin or lose to Cube + Dark Pact on weapon-summoned demons. You don't ever actually beat warlock with this deck, the warlock just loses due to poor draw.
Like I said, I love it when people try new things, but shaman desperately needs more card draw to reliably play a control/value based archetype. This is of course just my opinion.
i disagree with you in this being expensive for f2p but i agree with you otherwise. point being this deck is really great for the cost. i dont think you can expect to go anywhere with this deck but it is fun for the cost. as someone who had 99% of the cards (missing 2cnd farsight and earth elemental ) it is a refreshing shaman deck.
Btw to add some card draw I would suggest adding one fight promoter as you will often have some high health minions on board.
Missing one Earth Elemental. Any suggestions for a good replacement?
I replaced it with another Thing from Below. or some some aded flair try a Voodoo Hexxer.
Or White Eyes if you got em.
Even if it’s not easy to pull off, it’s nice to play ancestral spirit on something big followed by the uppgraded spell stone :D
Thijs used this formula of guild recruiter/flamewreathed on his stream a few weeks back, very similar deck...
+1 for creating new deck, need more people like you
I've been a fan of yours from your earlier Shaman decks. Thanks for posting this.
