Myra's Unstable Element into Captain Hooktusk into Lab Recruiter into Lab Recruiter on your other Lab Recruiter is a solid meme. Bonus points if you have Spirit of the Shark on board.
Imagine this: the only pirates in the deck are Southsea Deckhandx1 Southsea Captainx2 and Captain Hooktusk. You draw one Southsea Deckhand (all other pirates maybe except Captain Hooktusk is still in your deck) you play it, Lab Recruiter then Spirit of the Shark + Hero Power. Next turn you trade your Southsea Deckhand and Lab Recruiter into something and clear your board. Drop Captain Hooktusk for Southsea Deckhandx3 and Southsea Captainx2. This is around 12 damage (charge) and 20 if you play 2 Cold Bloods
Is no one going to point out that this is basically a board fill when working with Spirit of the Shark?
more like a board sepuku when your enemy clear your weak pirates (even with southsea captain they will only have 4 health at max)
I like this card for one simple reason: While being relatively good with typical mix of 2-4 drop Pirates, its strength depends on how many expensive pirates are in your deck. In other words, the more expensive Pirates you can cram into your deck, the better it becomes. It rewards being gutsy with your deck design, in other words.
I dig that art... so does DC's Joker
Wasted art >_<
Lab Recruiter + Skycap'n Kragg and + Captain Hooktusk = Charrrrrrrrrrrrrge
TBH, there are no good pirates to be summoned this way in standard.
They either buff your weapon through battlecry, or they have terrible stats with limited value. I can't think of a reliable win condition if you build a deck around this card.
Seems ok... insanely good as 1 mana 1/1, but even with base stats you can do The Coin Preparation Cannon Barrage
Coining out 15 damage might be so good that people will start running WANTED! in standard (in Wild there are easier ways to get coin)... well you can always Shadowstep instead, I suppose, but then question is how many pirates do you actually run for it to trigger for 3 of them twice...
I could see some shenanigans with Lab Recruiter
i can't wait to see the golden animation on the art of this card. if they animate the smoke and the light from the fire, it's going to be awesome. definetely has potential to be one of the best golden cards in the game.
Sigh... yet again, blizzard spends a legendary slot on a card that has so little support in Standard, let alone Wild. This is so frustrating for me.
When you look at the card in a vacuum, without considering the environment the card is played in, getting 3 minions out for free is pretty good. It's not as good as Varian Wrynn, but it costs 2 less mana and you get a pretty mediocre body instead of a solid 7/7. Wrynn wasn't that great actually, but that had more to do with being 10 mana than it being a bad effect.
The biggest problem is that most pirates contain Battlecry or Combo effects, which means you're more or less going to get vanilla bodies if you pull them out of your deck with Captain Hooktusk. There are some exceptions: Ticket Scalper, Cursed Castaway, Southsea Captain, and Southsea Deckhand being among the best ones at a quick glance. This seems just "ok" to me, as some of these cards are not cards you'd be happy to just put in your deck - the synergy forces you to start playing some of them. My biggest fear is that everything has 3-toughness (4-toughness with the Captains), making it more easily answered than other cards that do similar things yet pull out beefier minions (like Hadronox or Master Oakheart, Bloodreaver Gul'dan, etc.).
You could argue with me say, "But that's a lot of value! Drawing lots of cards and combo cards from your deck!" But since when does a Rogue pirate deck want to do that? And does it even want to do this at 8 mana?
It's just frustrating to see a card like this. We have most of the Rogue cards spoiled at this point, and no Rogue-only pirates besides Captain Hooktusk. I'm sure that's going to change, but I'm getting a little annoyed @ Blizzard for trickling out archetypes at a snails pace over an entire year before you actually get a chance to make a playable deck with them. And who knows, this card could just as easily be forgotten as Blizzard's short attention span focuses on another different mechanic in the next set.
Good card in a vacuum, but it's just frustrating.
let's hope this doesn't become the next freeze shaman. but like you said, there are more rogue cards to be revealed, and i doubt blizzard did only 1 pirate for a class that focus on this mechanic.
i regret this, they actually only did one pirate for rogue OMEGALUL
Insta, guaranteed craft for me. No discussion.
Imagine your opponent's face, sitting there with lethal only to see that anchor animation on the board. Yep. I ain't going down yet my dude.
If you pull 2 x Ticket Scalper you can draw 4 cards. Currently no other cards are all that exciting.
I think this card is being overestimated. I mean, pirates are for the most part aggressive and this costs 8...
Depends on what other Pirates we get if this will be any good, has potential yes, but reserving judgement until all is revealed, making early calls just never pans out!
Her application to be in charge no has been pending for 2 expansions. She finally got the job!
