Just like Dragonkin Sorcerer, it allows your opponent to get even more value out of silencing this minion after you buff it.  The reason these two cards are awesome is because their stats are solid.  The same argument is true for the aforementioned card.  I like this trend.  It's a fun way of soft-countering silence.

Just for fun, I'm going to make a top-of-my-head list of cards that merit a silence but are still solid afterwards

bad: Mal'Ganis Frostwolf Warlord Tirion Fordring Wilfred Fizzlebang Lightspawn Sunwalker Bolvar Fordragon Ysera Malygos Piloted Sky Golem YOU GET THE IDEA.  THIS LIST IS LONG.

good: Eydis Darkbane Fjola Lightbane Malorne Dragonkin Sorcerer Blackwing Technician Gruul.  All these cards have gradual effects that don't happen right away.  Your opponent has to wait until you've had a chance to get value before they get anything from silence.  Charming!

Note that this wouldn't actually trigger on rogue's oil.  It's not a targetted spell.

You were a cancer hunter, I an eboladin.  The way you elegantly cast your entire hand onto the board to avoid my Divine Favor really touched my heart.  I felt a deep connection when you sweetly apologized for leaving me with exactly two health while you had a Leper Gnome on the board as well as what I assume was an Explosive Trap active.  I delicately clutched a Muster for Battle and Divine Favor in my hand and acknowledged your generosity with a totally insufficient "Well Met!"  Because I was tragically unable to confess my love at the time, I mustered and attacked your leper gnome to fulfill my destiny.

If these feelings are reciprocated, meet me at the cancer support group in Newark, New Jersey with a bag of popcorn.

    Eternally Yours,

    -Eboladin

Blizzard isn't trying to render all the existing cards irrelevant.  They're trying to EXPAND the total amount of different cards people use.  If this card were a 3/5 for 3 mana, it would make Spider Tank a tribe-only card, like River Crocolisk.  Why would they want to do that?

People have referred to Power Creep here.  That's the right way to be thinking of this.  I'd rather have new cards that make me think than new cards that make all my old cards worthless.

Gentlemen:  This card is for zoo.

Zoo already runs Defender of Argusx2, who happen to love high-health minions.  Zoo can be weak to AoE killing low health minions, and this helps with that.  The board-control version of zoo just got better.  It's pretty easy to use all your mana each turn as zoo, so it's ok if you have to skip your hero power for a turn before getting value out of this guy.

MOST IMPORTANTLY HOWEVER, Zoo already runs Power Overwhelming, for powerful interaction with Nerubian Egg.  This card benefits!  You can use the inspire mechanic to get around the drawback of Power Overwhelming.  THE VALUE.

This doesn't really seem as good as people are making it out to be.  It has horrible topdeck value.  This is a legendary, so you can only have 1.  If we assume that you'd always mulligan away this card, and that you see a minimum of 9 cards by turn 6, there's a 30% chance you have this card in hand by then.  It's actually a little lower, since it's less likely to be in your starting hand because of mulligans.

You'd want something with lots of draw like Control Warrior, as people mentioned.  I have a distinct feeling that deck will be the only one that uses this card.  It doesn't really blow away control priest unless you consider auchenai.  It's kindof dangerous for priest to play anything that doesn't actively prevent face damage on turn 6 though.  Let's hope the meta gets shaken up enough.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that not only will Totem Shaman be a thing, Wall shaman will be a thing.

Taunt givers are already good with totems.  Totems just got better.  Good enough to build a whole deck around? I think so.

Seems like Rogue and Druid are the only ones who get anything decent out of turn-2 hero power.  Handlock would never run this.  Zoo wants to be playing minions turn 2.  Priest would play Zombie Chow.  This new Druid Cancer Face deck maybe? No - hero power is too slow for aggro.

This seems unequivocally bad - something I really hate to say.  I'm going to assume there are going to be other cards that buff all squires or something.  Seems like something this expansion would do.

posted a message on New Hunter Card - Lock and Load

This seems like fun.  The dream scenario here is to wait until you have a lot of mana and at least 2 more spells.  That's like a 6-card hand.  Nothing about the current hunter decks sounds like that at all.  Shaking up hunter is good and I'm for it.

Let's assume that there's a 50% chance that you get a spell with the Lock and Load effect.  That can chain and you have a smaller and smaller chance of getting a spell and having enough mana to play it.  This will probably draw people 2 cards on average and work as a board clear.  Sounds like control.  Sounds like it will make Feign Death good by proxy.  Sounds like fun.

posted a message on New Card - Kodo Rider

This card seems like it belongs in a watcher-style deck.  People mentioned that it is a pseudo taunt.  Against aggro, it would also trade well, but this isn't really a tool against aggro though because it comes out too late.  You wouldn't wait til turn 8 of course, but turn 6 may still be too late.  If you're running Ancient Watcher with Sunfury Protector and Defender of Argus though, you've probably already begun assembling the wall.  Deathlord watcher priest...

I'm noticing a lot of wall-friendly cards in this expansion.  Shaman is getting a lot of cards that sound like assembling a totem wall is going to be something we're talking about in a couple of months.

posted a message on New Card - Frost Giant

Remember that using your hero power early in the game is a huge tempo loss.  This is actually pretty balanced because you end up pretty far behind by the time you actually get to play it.

If handlock ran this, it would probably be the last wave of giants behind Moltens.  It might make handlock even more impossible to beat for other control decks, but it might even make it easier against aggro because it eats up two deck slots.

posted a message on New Mage Card - Effigy

From where I'm sitting, this looks outright overpowered.  The funny thing is that it discourages mages from playing Dr. Boomso the bots don't get recombobulated.

Turn 10: Archmage Antonidas + Effigy.

Turn 4: Effigy.  Turn 5, Antique Healbot

Even Turn 3 Effigy, Turn 4: Water Elemental seems very strong, because whatever killed your water elemental is probably frozen.

Clearly we're looking at disproportionate battlecries so that the mana cost is higher than the stats.  The value!   Harrison Jones says hello.  You could even play Sylvanas Windrunner on an empty board if you have Effigy up.  Your opponent would be certain that the secret was Duplicateand not know what to do.

posted a message on New Card - Draenei Totemcarver [Shaman]

The Frostwolf Warlord comparisons aren't unreasonable, but people are failing to consider that you can (and maybe should) run both.

Turn 2: Totem Golem, get overloaded.

Opp Turn 2: Plays minion, let's assume Totem Golem lives, because he has 4 health.

    Turn 3:  Trade, summon totem

Opp Turn 3: Let's assume one of your totems dies via removal, but not both.  Opponent might play a cheap minion.

    Turn 4: Play a this minion as a 5/5.  6/6 if he played a turn 3 minion.

Let's re-evaluate these turn 4 scenarios, assuming you get totem golem.  (I know this is a favorable assumption, but it's not going to be terribly unlikely after mulligans)

1.) If your opponent kept your totems clear, he probably doesn't have any minions, so you have a 4/4.  This means you have tempo, but not really a lead.  Fine.

2.) If your opponent left 1 totem up, you have a 5/5, and he might have a cheap minion.  You have a lead.  He could buff his cheap minion to kill your 5/5, and maybe play another minion.  This game is even, and you have a bit of a tempo lead

3.) If your opponent played 2 minions, you probably got very good value out of the Totem Golem and you might get to play this as a 6/6 before you trade away your Golem.  In this case you're clearly ahead.

Conclusion:  This card is good because at the very least, 6 mana for a totem and a 5/5 is a perfectly fine move.  Playing Frostwolf Warlordin the same deck seems like a fine choice.
