posted a message on Win Conditions

From my limited understanding on card games, "Win Condition" (a.k.a. Win Con) is being referred in a few different ways.

If we are talking about game rules, "Win Condition" is the condition where the rules says "You win this game". Like in chess, if your opponent's king gets killed, you win. Or in Hearthstone, reducing your enemy's health to zero is "You win".

But "Win Condition" can also be about deck types. We have the usual Aggro, Midrange, Control, Combo, etc. For aggro, the win condition is obviously to use cheap, efficient minions and spells to reduce your opponent's life to zero before he/she finds a way to stabilize and deal with all your threats. In addition, it can also be specified to a certain deck type. For example, we have the infamous mill deck (some of us love, some of us hate), with the win condition that aims towards drawing your opponent's whole library while staying alive, and slowly watch your opponent goes into an agonizing death by drawing fatigue cards after fatigue cards. So the win condition here is "mill your oponent's library".

Furthermore, "Win Condition" can also refers to a single card. In this case, it usually means a card that "gets you to the finishing line". For example, in Control Priest deck, Ysera has long been used as a "Win condition". This specific deck packs a lot of cards that stalls and seizes control, such as Shadow Word: Death and Lightbomb. These cards can't win games but can help the priest to stay alive. When the dust is settled, the priest will pull out Ysera to lock his/her opponent out of the game.

So, which case are we talking about? :-)

posted a message on How many people who hate Secret Paladin have played it?

My double Flare Dreadscale Midrange Hunter has no trouble dealing with MC paladin. As is my Freeze Mage.

That said, Mysterious Challenger is very powerful. It can pull wins out of nowhere. The counter-argument that one has to pack crappy cards in the form of Secrets is invalid because they simply aren't crappy. Redemption and Avenge had been used in previous aggro paladin list. Noble Sacrifice ruins people's game plan big time.

The fact that MC paladin works perfectly fine without the namesake Mysterious Challenger is quite problematic for the opponent. After dealing with various threats like Shielded Minibot or Muster for Battle, resources are spent and here comes Mysterious Challenger crashing into the field like nobody's business. Not saying it is overpowered or something, but this line of play is certainly very oppressive.

Do I hate Secret Paladin? Not really. But it is annoying. It's like those kids that just keep using Hadoken-Hadoken-Hadoken-Shoryuken sequence in street fighter. It's not really a must-win but the win rate for using this is high enough for them to believe so they just keep using it.

It's funny someone added me to send me a tell that "you play facehunter wrong".

But I am playing Midrange Hunter.

posted a message on What about the beast?

Without further context I think any recommendations will do you no good.

Not saying the recommendations may change because of that (which is likely "just dust it and make something else"), but there is no meaningful comparison when there is no context. From me reading through some of the comments, I only know that you are planning on Dr. Boom. Do you currently have a particular deck(s) you would like to build towards? Is The Beast deployed in any of your current decks? If so, how do you feel it is working for you? What cards do you have right now? (at least the more remarkable ones, say Savannah Highmane for Hunter, or Flamewaker in mage, etc.)

I would recommend you not to dust it, if you are solely planning for your Dr. Boom. You can always dust it when you have 1200 dust to craft the doctor. You will sometimes find yourself really wanting a big threat, and The Beast is certainly a crappy but big threat. Dusting it right away, and you may regret later.

However, if you have some specific directions you are working towards, it could mean a whole different story. The Beast is rather bad compared to most other similar cards, and I am talking about rares and epics. Say, your main is hunter, and you don't have Savannah Highmane. Dusting The Beast and crafting 2x Savannah Highmane will still leave you with 200 dust surplus, with the 2 lions making your hunter deck way better, contributing to your win rate, which ultimately means more gold. With mechmage The Beast can easily become Goblin Blastmages. With druid The Beast should just be a pair of Keeper of the Grove. For neutral cards, a pair of Azure Drake will serve you better.

Maybe the Warlock player is streaming or something? I know players who stream and talks and chats and do all that, while they don't really "rope" people, they do take longer than usual turns.

Also, with the 15 seconds mode... well, they can't do that. Physically, they can. But look how many times they broke the game with Nozdormu and you will understand how awful it can be for such a mode to exist.

posted a message on Most enjoyable deck to play

    Casino Mage, a.k.a. Tempo Mage.

There is a certain degree of satisfaction when you have Flamewaker and then just The Coin into Arcane Explosion into Arcane Missiles into Frostbolt. The fireworks is definitely a spectacular one.

I also love the fact it takes advantage of card advantages and tempo play. S**t like Nexus-Champion Saraad into Hero power is simply fun. At one point Malygos is included, and the gazillion Arcane Missiles flying around the battlefield is just ridiculous.

Whenever I play tempo mage, I don't really care if I win or lose, 'cause I know tis' gonna be fun.

posted a message on Why do Paladins and Hunters have Secrets, but Rogues don't?

.... because magi, paladins and hunters harbor some secrets at heart.

Rogues don't. Rogue sees target. Rogue goes stealth. Rogue stabs on back. Rogue vanishes.

    Whiners.

    Please remove Whiners.

If you ask me that we can remove one thing from this game, I would pick whiners, everyday.

Just dont use the forum and dont accept every friend-request after a match where you permanently spammed "sorry" after you killed one minion..
As if saying something would make it true. Yeah, keep believing that. Keep calling people names, keep accusing others of stuff that you made up, and the world would be a better place.
    For you, anyway.
