wingsofwaxiii posted a message on (Guides) Budget Series - Legend Grinders - 9-Classes/11-Decks (Naxx + 2k Dust)Posted in: General Deck Building
Hey there everyone,
I am a 16x Legend Player with 2x Top 100 finishes who goes by the battletag WingsOfWax or WingsOfWaxIII on other social media (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Twitch, and YouTube).
Introduction to my YouTube Channel!
Lately off stream I have recently started up a brand new guide series for Newer/Budget Players looking to get into Hearthstone Ranked. I want to help encourage newer players to learn this game and grow with it rather than feel like they are too far behind to become competitive. If you understand the matchups and can pilot these decks reasonably well, you have an extremely high chance of reaching High Ranks or even Legend depending on your Goal!
As I said, I only recently started this series of guides, but intend on creating more content over the next few weeks. All of these deck lists and guides will include Mulligan/Opening-Hands, Play-Style, Adapting to your Meta, and FAQ portions to help you learn how to play and tweak your deck appropriately depending on what you are playing against. On top of this, I will also be offering links inside each budget deck to a "Finished" (non-budget) deck list that you may work towards if you are enjoying the class/deck and find yourself with a growing budget.FAQ:
Q - 2k Dust and Naxx? That seems like an expensive "budget."
A - These guides are intended for people looking to spend some Dust/Gold and have the ability to acquire at least the bare essential Adventure Mode, Naxxramas. Budget is much different than F2P, which is why I don't label my decks and guides as F2P to cause confusion. Budget means you are willing to spend a little, where as F2P means ...well....Free.
Q - Why not use BRM in your series?
A - I was trying to build a series based on the bare bones to help encourage newer or budget players try their hand at Ranked with competitive decks without spending too much Dust/Gold. Naxxramas is completely necessary to building most decks, where as BRM mostly just creates new strategies and gives you extra tools that compliment decks.
Don't forget to +1 the decks and this thread if you enjoyed the guides/decklists. A lot of time and effort went into these and it's a free and easy way to say thank you.

Asuryan posted a message on What are the Terms that Hearthstone Has Created?Posted in: General DiscussionHaha, they were fun times. :) For anyone confused about it, Chaos Orb was a card that you literally threw into play, and then it destroyed anything it landed on. Players used to position their cards as far apart as possible to protect against it. It didn't take long before MtG banned the card because it was so silly. -

Positioning - I don't MtG had any strategies around minion placement
The first two are both from MtG. Positioning not so much, except in the very early days (1992) because of Chaos Orb.Quote from huertgenwald >>Quote from huertgenwald >>What lol?Meaning: Learn to use Google or the search function at this site. jaybennett89 posted a message on Finally hit the golden ranks!!Posted in: General DiscussionI know this board is full of legend players but today I got to Rank 5 for the first time!
I've been playing Hearthstone for 4 months, and it took me 759 wins to hit the top %2 of all players.
For you pros out there, how many wins did you earn before hitting legend rank?!

iandakar posted a message on Does Hearthstone need "Standard?"Posted in: General DiscussionLimited formats is fine for tournaments, though, as challengestone and the brawls showed, you have to be VERY careful in order to make them interesting. But as far as regular format goes.. no. We're YEARS from even considering it and there's no guarantee we'll benefit from it after that point.Power creep, same old decks, alienating new players and no tournament innovation say hi. We are not years away. Only your perception of the issue is.Power creep isn't stopped with formats since the creep happens from one set to another. BRM/TGT/LoE is already balanced around the additional power of Shredder. Even with Shredder removed, the next set of cards still have to maintain that power level to compete against the surviving cards.Same old decks.. Most of the decks that are currently active became strong after PvP or later. The Secret paladin, the most hated, is the most recent expansion. Midrange Paladin came into vogue thanks to LoE. Same for Reno Warlock. Most of the rest either formed initially from BRM or have been so warped that they aren't close to their current incarnations. Most of the old decks are dead (handlock, old control warrior, ANYTHING from hunter..) or revamped. The only deck in the top tier that's close to it's original style is combo druid. We haven't had an expansion or adventure not result in a heavily changed meta. Meanwhile people complain about the stale meta 2 weeks after the meta has changed, and complain about decks that didn't exist prior to that change. Under those standards,We can talk about the issue of tournaments WHEN tournaments stop being innovative even after an expansion. As for new players:Cutting the card pool HELPS new players. The way HS is set up, you basically can't rotate classic or basic cards out. But old adventures and expansions? Yes Please. New players can focus on getting the new stuff and they should be fine. Card availability isn't the only reason formats ARE necessary. Just read this tread. What's the difference between a player focusing on crafting a Justicar instead of a Ragnaros? Nothing since both are 1600 dust and crafted in the same way. Booster choice only really comes to play for commons/rares and new players are rarely held back from decks because of a missing 100 dust rare. A control warrior with Justicar, Grom, and Varian is just as unobtainable as a warrior with Ragnaros, Dr. Boom and Grom. But what this WILL affect are those who are midway through their collection. If a player is about to finish off demonlock, crafts Mal'Ganis, then finds out in a few months that the entire deck is now deemed worthless because GvG is cycling out and demonlock can't survive without Mal'Ganis, THAT is painful. Same for a novice who's spent 2 MONTHS grinding through Naxx before finding out that they've wasted their time if they don't want to get dumped into the 'Vintage' zone. None of this is a problem for me and my oversized collection. A new player will have to stick to a subpar secret paladin deck that just has the newest cards but won't win as well vs my reno secret paladin with avenge, Dr. Boom and muster for battle. Or they can spend 2800 gold and 1600 dust for key cards that will be wasted come next year.Formats are NOT friendly to new players, when they actually have to sit down and craft the cards. -

I can't wait to see people's reaction when they remove a card from their opponent's deck that is of no import and then actually helps them draw into a card that can turn the game around.
This is potentially worse than River Crocolisk.
Edited: As if River Crocodile is a card....

What's with the 39+% of meta-defining poll?
Anyway, I don't see why people should feel bad about being milled a card. It is a fundamental concept that a card milled is just the same as a card on the bottom you will never draw. Of course if your deck is like Exodia mage then that may have been a bit different, but overall I don't see why people should be upset.
And.... who would really use this card, like, for real?

The good'o Preparation into The Coin play.
I mean... this has to mean I can now cast a 4 mana spell, right? RIGHT?

Hm... "Thank you" is now a BM?
Maybe I have really been away for too long, but I usually say "Thank you" no matter if I win or lose the game. It is simply a replacement for the handshake after card games IRL.
Perhaps I should stop doing this or something?

Just no.
I kinda lost interesting in the game waiting for this Standard mode they've been hyping for a while. And the more time I have thinking, the more skeptical I am towards the results. I've pre-ordered every single expansions/adventures, but not this time. I will see how standard plays out, and decide if I will be making a purchase.
FYI. I stopped playing Hearthstone for now. Gotta save New York City!
