Over the past week or so, I've noticed that people will make threads where they are salty about losing with their deck or facing the same decks over and over again. And in every thread, at least 1 person (usually 2-3) will say go to the Salt Thread, nobody wants to see you complain, etc. They'll also mention in other ways how you just aren't a good player, and should stop playing, if they don't mention the Salt Thread. But, the Salt Thread is mostly for one-off posts, usually not conversations, and new threads are specifically to talk about that issue at length. And the biggest issue with the Salt Thread is that people use it to demean others, or that if you post there, we all know that plenty of people just go there to laugh at those who use it, even if they may not say anything in the thread
I try to be active on here, and I've noticed how some people are absolutely dead set on being toxic and unhelpful members of the community, looking for the slightest thing they can go after you for. It's discouraging to some, making them feel like there is no point in posting, because they'll get no help, and waste their time as their thread gets taken over by some other conversation.
I might be a minority, or the only person who thinks this, but something needs to be done about the members who abuse the Salt Thread as a way to make fun of or be rude to other community members, and the Salt thread needs to disappear or be changed in some way so that the stigma that seems to be around it can go away. I'm not saying I have any good or perfect solutions, because I don't, but I want to see the HearthPwn community be a positive place where people can post without worrying that their post will be taken over by comments telling them they suck, go to the Salt Thread, etc., when what they need is help, not to be pushed away.

I think part of the reason people are dismissive about the various salty threads posted daily here is that a lot of them are just unreasonable at their core. So many are just people complaining about losing to deck X or Y or that some card should be nerfed when no data exists to support their claims. They just come off as whiny and entitled. If those who posted presented their gripes in a manner which promoted a real discussion, then that's great, but so many just post an absurd rant.
Just to be clear, I think there are plenty of issues with Hearthstone that deserve debate. But it's tiresome to see post after post (some of which are about the exact same thing) of people just whining about nothing more than whatever deck/card happened to tilt them that day.
I definitely agree that many threads that are salty are unreasonable at their core, but that still doesn't give people the right to demean them and the like. I just want to see more positive influences in the community, so that when a salty thread is made, people might be patient with them and give them advice, instead of treating them like they are dirt.

The exasperation that results in salty players being mistreated is the same exasperation that results in those players existing in the first place. You can't appropriately treat one without treating the other.

This completely.
I know exactly which thread you're referring to, and the people you're referring to; I was one of them. I was being dismissive, because his thread was frankly worth dismissing. That TC was hiding behind their sarcasm to spout the same diatribe about how "OP" the Priest apparently is; the same complaints a couple dozen other people have whined about on this forum. No facts to back themselves up, nothing of actual note in their post; just "lol Priest is just so much fun to play against you guys no really". What are we supposed to do with that? It was (and is) a waste of space...which is why it was eventually locked by a Moderator.
The correct answer in that situation was to send them to the Salt Thread.
I am generally a patient person; you'll live a miserable life if you can't be patient with angry people to at least some degree. However, if you want to post a rhetorical thread where you're just looking to bounce your saltiness off the walls, and hear it echo with the other salty people...that's what the Salt Thread is for. Present an actual topic worth discussing, or go shout into the black-hole with everyone else.

If people have issues or need advice they should probably make a reasonable topic where they explain what is not working for them and asking for help, giving the community arguments on which debate. When instead tons of users just open topic like "OMG NERF X IS SO CONCER COINFLIP RNG SHIT BL0ZZARD DO SOMETHING", then is something that is not even worth to read. It's just a salty post born from the rage of losing one or more games, and for that kind of issues there is the Salt Thread. So the correct answer to those kind of useless topic is a redirect to the Salt Thread. Nothing more, nothing less.
I dream of a Hearthpwn where instead of ranting-topics there will be only constructive and debatable ones, but it's not possible. There is also no reason why you should not link the Salt Thread in a pointless whine, because you're just showing the topic starter where he should go instead of create a zero-value new discussion on this board.
Posting the salt thread link has one purpose: make you look like a better player than you are, to earn the approval of people who think they are better players than they are.
Also, for comedic value, it's old. Really old. I've seen YTPs from 2007 that are still less washed down and repetitive than this.
I've never even earned one for any thread of mine, but seeing that link just irks me because it is basically EZ-mode shitposting that this "community" somehow approves of.
Still, gj OP, about time someone brought this up.

Well, thank you for your contribution. I genuinely thought I would just get bombarded by people telling me I'm an idiot and the community is fine, etc., but it's nice seeing someone agree.
But the only issue with dealing with the issues of the community and the Salt Thread is how do you fix the issues and deal with community members that are rude and just CTRL+V the Salt Thread link wherever they can for the slightest reasons. They just keep it on hand for jokes, and it's so demeaning, and I see nothing done about them. I hope we see posts with suggestions for the HearthPwn staff, because, honestly, I've got nothing.

I'd love to hear suggestions about what to do with the Salt Thread, if you think there are issues.
The only suggestion I can offer in the meantime is that if you think someone is derailing a legitimate discussion post by posting the link, then report them for non-constructive posting. I will say that I did quickly check the thread that seems to have sparked this discussion, and I can't say I disagree with the people who posted the link. There was nothing constructive about the original post, and the thread was rightly locked not long after.
But again, if you think discussion is being derailed by people posting it, report them so we can deal with them! And other suggestions are of course welcome.
There is no one specific post that I am referring to, and I hope this post doesn't come off as rude or disrespectful to the Staff either, because that is not how it is supposed to come across. I just wish to see the community be a better place, and I am always thinking of ways to improve my threads, my contributions, how I could help in the community, and more. This is just one thing that I thought could use a look.

Hey, the Salt Thread by itself is amazing. I've used it a few times myself and it's nothing short of a godsend.
My only pet peeve is against the link-pasting repliosaurs, even when they are right. This is the internet, you have very long to think up your posts, and you can't even be original on how you bash other people?

In a perfect world we'd have a forum where everyone treated everyone else with respect, stayed on topic, and presented logical/factual arguments for/against whatever issue was up for discussion. Unfortunately the internet is not that place. I applaud those who strive to keep this place a fun/educational environment and I try to do my best as well. Because of the anonymity of the internet people feel empowered to act in ways which they would never act in a face-to-face setting. It goes both ways though. Not only are people dismissive and rude in their responses, but many who start threads are engaging in the same juvenile and attention needy behavior with their original post in the first place.
For me, I just try and stick to the threads with subject lines that sound worthy of my time and I ignore the rest. I always try and post helpful or thoughtful responses and hope those who reply to me do the same. That's about all you can hope for.
I say we make a salt thread for each one of the 9 classes. That way people can complain to their heart's content and there is no need for them to spam individual threads all day talking about why X card in Y class is completely broken.
I'm going to pop in here later tonight or tomorrow to respond. There's some good posts in this thread and I want to have a chance to read everyone's feedback in full before responding.
Sorry to "Thread-Necromance", but a very recent thread reminded me of this thread and I felt it important to bring this back and remind everyone that the Salt Thread is an issue.
Whenever someone makes a thread, if it is even remotely salty, people just spam the link to the Salt Thread, and don't even look into what the OP said. People just want an excuse to post the link to Salt Thread, and don't look into the thread's OP to see if there was a valid point being made.
And, just so everyone knows, this isn't a salt post.

The issue with looking for old threads is when you post in it, it just looks like you are committing Thread-Necromancy, and it can be hard to locate a thread dedicated to exactly what you want to talk about. Whether or not one person thinks the Salt Thread is a good Thread to have, the overall connotation on the Salt Thread is negative. I'm not saying your opinion isn't important, but the Salt Thread is the worst thread on the forums. I won't just retype everything I posted in the original post, so just go look there if you haven't already to get the whole point of this thread, since I do not know if you have read it or not.
