I'm writing this during a casual game where my opponent has roped me every turn. They'll play their turn and just let it burn. It's so obnoxious. There's no room for this in the game mode where people go to relax.
I understand the fear behind a report feature being salty people losing games and reporting people who didn't do anything wrong. But honestly I think letting jerks go and waste people's time is worse than reviewable reports against innocent people.
Look I understand roping is not cool. However the game allows them to use that time however they like. You may consider it wasting your time, but it was their time to use however they wanted to. Turns are set up to last up to a certain amount of time. Hitting the end turn button is the choice of the player on their turn.

Just because they are empowered to rope others because the game lets them, doesn't make it an acceptable thing to do. It's a game where both people are expected to actually play it. If the guy was carefully thinking out his turns, I'd be able to tell. He would play all of his cards at the start of each turn and rope me out. He didn't even win, and wasn't in a losing position until the end of the game, so it wasn't even out of salt.
I consider it wasting my time because it's factually what's happening. If you don't have any plays left, end your turn. Is there something I'm failing to consider that justifies doing that?
One thing I would agree with, is when the finish turn button is green, the turn ends automatically.
But roping is and always will be acceptable. It does not matter what you feel the opponent is doing, it doesn't have to be good reasons and nothing you can say will prove that it is for bad reasons.
Maybe they are roping you on purpose to make you frustrated, yes. But maybe they are using the time to think about their/your next play. Maybe they are slow thinkers or intoxicated. Maybe they are watching youtube at the same time. How would you know ? How would you judge which one to report ? You can't and Blizzard can't, and shouldn't.
Weren't you roping him while posting this thread ? Should he report you ?
If the guy was carefully thinking out his turns, I'd be able to tell.
As far as I know, there isn't an XP bonus to winning in casual, so why not just surrender? If he is trying to farm XP, then the faster that you concede, the less efficient his farming technique becomes because he's spending more time in queue (correct me if the XP system works differently). If enough players conceded fast enough, maybe the disincentive would become high enough for the every-turn XP farming ropers to at least rope less.
If the guy was carefully thinking out his turns, I'd be able to tell.
Care to elaborate this bold claim ?
If they were thinking out their turns, they'd play their cards later, right? It's not that hard to intuit when somebody's just messing with you vs. when they have hard decisions to make. There wasn't any hovering on their cards during either of our turns. They'd turbo out their cards, consider trades (the arrow being the tell there), then make them and wait out their turn until the rope popped.
If we're operating in good faith, which I suppose I should be - they could be considering their next turn during the end of their own turn, that way if I turbo my turn real fast they'd still have had time to consider their options. That doesn't explain why they didn't play a card for the first 3 turns. I think most of us have played long enough to be able to tell when somebody is roping because they're thinking and roping because they're just bein' rude. The hovering, the timing with which they play their cards. They were playing Standard Libram Paladin; a deck I can't really attest to being complicated or not since I don't play it. I was playing Wild Tavish/Beast Hunter.

To be honest, it's a lose-lose for me. I'm just salty enough that I don't want them to just get a free win off of me because they're roping, and I stick it out to avoid giving them that satisfaction just to suffer through a boring, too-long game. It didn't help that I had rolled the best opening hand I've had in a while with the deck and I was really excited to play it out.
Fact of the matter is though, how would you report that? "user x roped me every turn" and...yeah? I for one can say that I did in a couple of occasions for a few turns because something had come up after I started the game and needed to take as much time as possible and didn't want to concede because I was on ladder. But even if this guy is legit roping just to gain extra xp or something...lad, just concede. I'd understand you more if this was a game on ladder but in casual you get a laughable amount of xp to begin with and there's no incentive to play a game a second longer than you think is worth...if your time is worth so much that you get pissed by someone roping, why on earth don't you concede and move to the next game? Just because he wins? What? A meaningless game in casual mode? This is just me, but I really don't get it.
Hs obviously needs a better way to report people but reporting someone because he/she ropes (and isn't a bot doing it)...heh, I don't see the point. I get why it's annoying but at a certain point, you have to decide whether a star, a winstreak or your time is worth the anger you get by someone roping you every turn.
And bloody hell, when I play casual I instaconcede against all classes that I don't want to face with the current deck I'm playing, I certainly wouldn't think half a second about whether or not I should concede against a roper.
If they were thinking out their turns, they'd play their cards later, right?
What no, I meant his opponent's turn and his next turn, not his current turn, that's what the 90 seconds are for, thinking ahead. If you're not 1 turn ahead then why even think at all just vomit your hand.
It looks like I'm in the wrong here about my experience today. I knew from the outset that there's plenty of reasons a person might take a while for their turns, and I could have just dipped out since it was casual and there wasn't really a reason not to. I guess I was just stubborn, and roping makes me cranky enough to complain here about it.
It's impossible to know/prove the motivations for roping, and it's not in good faith to just assumed they're doing it for BM. That's my bad.
there is many MANY bots set to just roping, so ye its an issue. Also for those who are defending it by saying "its part of the game, its not illegal etc etc" How would you like you walked somewhere, some pedestrian was on purpose blocking you by walking very closely and very slowly in front of you, moving as you do so you cant get ahead of him. For 20 minutes lets say. You would lost your temper in 1 minute. ITS NOT ILLEGAL and walking is part of being human! Maybe he was just rly enjoying the view? Also letss add that he would constantly fart in 1cm proximity of you, turned around, stare at you and drool. Hew wouldnt be touching you, so not illegal...
Eh whenever a Report function is implemented some mouthbreathers abuse it to grief legitimate players. So I am very much against this proposal.
The only way I would be for it is if it had very limited options, off the top of my head "Botting" and "Exploiting" and that's it. Roping, BM or whatever is annoying but just laugh at how petty they are and move on. And even with such limited options Blizz should be damn careful to make sure botting or exploiting actually happened before they act on it. The thing I would absolutely hate is a "Toxicty" reason to report, I know of many cases where decent players were permabanned over BS so heck no, keep that cuddle culture away from HS.

You don't seem to get Blizzard.
Right now ropers get rewarded becouse they reward blizz the most.
But if you post daily they might change it in 1 or 2 years.

Your opponent was probably being a dick to get a free win.
Ropers are pretty rare, just beat them and move on.
Let me guess you were playing secret pally coz they get roped for being so unskilled :)
Hahaa
We’ve only been asking for years, I’m sure your input will get it done in no time.
Take a walk on the wild side...

They could add such mechanic (let's call it "borrowed time"): If you roped 2 turns in a row, your next turn is 50% shorter :).

What rules are ropers breaking to make them worth reporting?
Funny how even 40% of hearthpwn is too dumb to see the actuall problem... Hope you only face bots lol
