Everybody's discussing Deck of Lunacy right now, but I think there's a bigger picture. With the rotation and the core set changes on top of that the card pool seems to be too good in general, so that discover and random effects are way too strong now.
I just played a match against a mage who managed to play two additional copies of Astromancer Solarian and one additional copy of Aegwynn, the Guardian besides his regular copies of those cards by playing Primordial Studies and Font of Power. Cards that discover certain traits like spell damage or rush seem to be too consistently discovering high value cards. I mean isn't the restriction of one of each legendary per deck there for a reason? Maybe discover effects shoudn't be able to discover legendaries? There should be a downside to the flexibility of finding an impromptu answer.
No. Strong random & discover pools are a good thing. I dunno about legendaries not being discover-able, I think that'd be... okay. But really not actually THAT necessary.
Making the cards with access to those pools worse is what they need to do. "Mage spell" is too broad a pool. "Arcane spell" "Holy Spell" "Shadow Spell" these are better and give you more control over what the player gets from the effect.
I'm having a similar experience in arena. "A random minion" of some mana costs is consistently very good, and I find that cards like Conjurer's Calling hit almost every time.(and Heartharena agree with me,putting is as the second strongest mage card after... well, Jandice)
Yes. I've been complaining about this for a while. Right now, one of the big problems with mage is that they're going to fill their hands with legendary minions when they generate them. Blizz stopped printing packfilling niche legendary minions and now we have mage generating several high impact legendary minions with Primordial Studies and Font of Power. It's funny how you can have 0 minions in your deck, yet still have insane board presence in the current meta.
Mage is queen of RNG. You can play against 4 primes in one game. Or 3 evocations. Priest is 2nd place. Both these classes exist to simply generate tons of cards.

Solarian is the only mage legendary that could even be considered high impact. Even then half the time she just casts the same secret 3 times. For the most part mage legendaries are underwhelming.
I’ve been thinking recently that discover effects should be tied to normal deck building. For example if you already had Solarian in your deck you wouldn’t be able to discover a second copy, or Soul Mirror. they basically did this with Dragonqueen not being able to discover herself
It was obvious that it will happen withot classic\basic. Discover cards were balanced around having bad options. Even mediocre random cards like Webspinner are way better than before.
Any discover\randomly generate card in standard is like 2x times better than the same card in wild

Anyone else thinks this is a problem?
Ceterum censeo classum magi esse delendam.

its not that they are too good, its just the pools are too small
Exactly this.. we're only working with four expansions at the moment. Also the new wave of core cards now
