This one is sort of absurd—I’ve seen Guff somehow summon a his squirrel and rather than it go straight to my face he was able to put the mount spell on it and then deal 6 somehow.

also, the shadow priest has skipped my turn two times now. I know people complained in the past about these being too easy but I don’t exactly want to get played like this. For 40 dust!

posted a message on Just increase the quest reward cost to 7, or even 8, mana. That makes it more possible to counter them

I have said this before: I think the outrage about over powered design is BY DESIGN

they used to never nerf anything, and now every expansion gets nerfed two to three times? This is t some accident, they play tested this stuff and knew it would be OP. Then streamers, youtubers, Reddit and all begin to talk about it again and again. This is intentional, it’s happened too many times for it not to be. Outrage drives interest in your 7 year old card game and then you can “fix it” which generates more interest. You repeat this a few times per expansion and the next thing you know, nobody got bored of your game and they are ready to buy the next expansion 4 months later.

posted a message on Honestly, nerfs don't matter at this point

I don’t really care very much for what the quests have brought, and I can’t imagine any nerfs that are going to change the game.  Combo decks were never the most interactive and rarely as consistent as the quests allow you to be. The design philosophy has moved towards shorter games for a while, and this expansion feels like Team 5 wanted to prove they can deliver that experience with a set that could focus on combo rather than aggro.

Nerfs could probably slow these quests down but I have a hard time imagining Blizzard giving a rework that pushes these designs towards interactivity.

The other issue is card draw. Combos in the past required you to dig through your deck for a specific card and then to have to wait for the conditions to be right to unveil your combo; e.g. Raza-Anduin, Malygos, Antonidas.  The combos of old were not looking for any one of six fire spells in deck, you had to design a deck that could put your specific cards in hand and also stall until they had accumulated.

I was really hoping for Warrior quest line and Maestra. I’ve typically had a lot better openings than this, but that’s variance for ya

when do we get the included Bundle legendariea?

posted a message on What is wrong with hearthstone?

I have been feeling lately like Blizzard employs this development pattern of releasing broken content to outrage half of the players for hearthstone while absolutely delighting the other half. And then people talk and talk and talk about it, and then they fix it so the process can be repeated.

I sincerely doubt they are failing to play test as much as often some of these breaking moments would imply. I believe this pattern kind of began back around Galakrond, It has been nearly every release since then has created some new frustrating experience that half the players cannot shut up about and the other half must wholly commit to.
Think about it—they used to never touch any of the cards. Nerfs were rare! And the meta shake up that came with them was super special. Now it’s like they release broken content so they can shake up the meta and keep people coming back to see if it’s “good” yet. I don’t know what their sales look like, I couldn’t say if it’s making them money. But we are probably never going to have the sort of balance that any of these nerf cycles seem to suggest is possible. Power creep has made any middling deck a thing of the past. There will always be a crazy tier one deck and the best nerfs are going to get us is maybe a second or third tier one deck.

posted a message on Book of Mercenaries: Xyrella - Priest

This was pretty fun! I like dormant mercenaries function and the dialogue. At times the AI was pretty silly, but if I had to choose between an easy pack with a good story and some BoH like Priest with a multi-stage fight for a pack I would choose this.

Back in February, I played Hotform in Duels. I had a silly idea to do this mana biscuit OTK I was trying and it totally whiffed. I tried to snipe him and it ended up being a bit humiliating as him and his chat joked about how dumb my strategy must be.

posted a message on A New Mystery Card Back Has Been Added To The Game

This seems like a good lead—the mercenaries also have cards that actually feature them in their art. However, I just tried playing Scabbs and managed to play those 4 cards with it on the same turn and saw no progress.

posted a message on Anyone else get anxiety while playing?

I used to get anxiety about ranked mode before they implemented the new rewards track. For years I only played for the 5 ranked wins a month to get the card back and then it was back to casual for fun games. But once achievements were tied to ranked games it became my focus and I have hit legend every month since then. I don’t feel anxious anymore except at diamond 1 or when I am like 11-2 in arena.

posted a message on XP Achievement Guide - Forged in the Barrens

I would have liked a more detailed guide as well, at least pointing towards some cards that can be used. though I admit some of these are a little more straightforward.

I did the Rancor one by using Mad Summoner, Protect the King, and Drywhisker Armorer for some sustain. Completed mine against a pirate warrior.

For the Tavish achievement, I wouldn’t recommend using beasts that cost more than 6. You’ll probably be playing against spell mage, sticking a bearshark on turn 3 while you have Tavish in hand is a way to get it started. In wild, you’ll want to search keywords rush and charge and again pick guys who cost less than 5/6

Mankrik’s Wife is probably easiest with shuffle rogue as you stated, I’d add that secret passage presents the card as a neutral 3-cost spell you can play from hand if you manage to get the opponent down you can complete it pretty simply.
