Even buying MDF packs yesterday with the reward track gold I'd earned so far, I could only get 76 packs. I guess that's the price of a November release. (For the past few expansions, I've bought about 85 packs with gold.)
Having now spent a few of the reward track levels' gold an expansion early, I've worked out I'll need to get to about level 84 for the same amount of gold that I'm accustomed to stockpiling over a 4-month expansion. I'm currently on level 18.
It'll be interesting to see if this is more work than my usual dailies plus a few wins. (Just did a quick back-of-the-envelope calculation using the numbers off here and it'll take about 2,700 XP every day for 4 months - doesn't sound likely, but let's see.)
I also hope there 's resource support (extra XP, gold, dust, cards and packs) for the mini set coming in a couple of months. Fingers crossed.
The inherent problem in asking the paying player base to join a boycott over the F2P reward system is just that . . . they are the ones who care least about the F2P functions. Whenever possible, I purchase enough packs to have an entire set on day 1 plus a bunch of my favorites in gold. While the amount of gold I have earned since the last expansion effects how many packs I need to buy, the difference between the old system and new is going to translate into a very small difference in the money spent. So, the only real interest I have in the reward track is the cosmetic stuff, and it's relatively trivial to reach lvl 50 in a 4-month period.

Helpful Clarification on Forbidden Topics for Hearthstone Forums:
Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.
Love the game, hate the company. A truly abusive relationship. Will play for 2 weeks then quit until next expac hoping they fix this stupid reward system. Otherwise I might just quit for good, cuz they dont deserve a single penny.
I've always defended Blizz's right to maximize profits, but I'm now at a point where I even feel my dollars are being abused.
It's not just the whales making things difficult. There is absolutely a correlation with price gouging to off set the horde of players that don't make Blizzard a single penny. Blizzard isn't the only one taking advantage of the money paying base. (I also acknowledge that Blizzard would still try to maximize profit even if every player spent money.)
So it's suggested that they paying base boycott Blizzard. Make them see they went too far as to what's acceptable. Make them change their pricing habits and reward system. There is definitely some merit in that thinking, but I still can't help but realize that much of this crying going on is to get the paying players up in arms to force Blizzard to fix things that ultimately benefits F2P players more. Then they can go right back to not spending a dime on the game while enjoying the benefits of a paying customer.
One thing is for sure. At the end of this expansion, I'm gonna reevaluate just what my entertainment dollar is buying me, and weigh it against other options I'm gonna research out. I quit this game once before for 3 years, I can do it again. Might be time to go back to stand alone RPG's where I don't have to deal with rude players.
Zero appreciation for the fact that the F2P player base is the foundation of the game...the reason you don't have to wait for minutes to find a game...the reason the game isn't already dead on twitch and dead in reality, killed by blizzard to either move on the hearthstone 2 or other projects entirely.
I say this as someone who is not F2P. You are even worse than the clowns on reddit calling for the whole thing to become subscription based.
Spending huge amounts of money to a game, even though Blizzard created it, without knowing what's going to happen in the future ... Come on guys! You must not be earning those money so easily in real life. Stop investing unless you are a youtuber or game consultant.
Boy, I really wish everyone who comes on here to announce they're uninstalling really DOES it, and subsequently stops posting, It really gets tedious.
"I hate the designers, I hate RNG, I hate Aggro, I hate Control Priest, I hate Battlegrounds, I hate Duels, I hate the rewards system. Evil greedy Blizz making, no FORCING me to pay money to play this game i despise, RAAAAAGGGGEEEE!"
Seriously, please, uninstall it, get a grip, don't pay money for things you don't want, let those of us who enjoy the game do our thing.
Dude, you dont get achievement points for sucking blizzards ****

Apples: The gold we earned from quests and wins last time. And the gold and rewards we earn from the new track this time.
Oranges: Freebies given along the way. The free packs at the start of each expansion. The enhanced bonuses during events. The free legendary you'd get at the start of an expansion. Twitch packs, etc.
You can't compare apples to apples, then try to throw oranges in there unless you are also comparing oranges to oranges, which they are NOT doing. This argument by blizz is terrible. They are trying to confuse folks into thinking the perks from the oranges bin are now part of the apple bin. Without acknowledging that we got those perks before and we were not using them in our calculations of the new system vs. the old one.
Now they are not only lying to me, they are also insulting me.

Are you saying that the paying playerbase should show appreciation to the FTP base by keeping their spending high no matter how robbed they feel about it?
And sorry but the foundation of every game is the money that pays its devs and servers. And nobody cares about twitch, we're talking about playing the game here not watching it, online games and communities have existed long before streaming platforms came to life.
We appreciate the presence of FTP playerbase. But that's all there is to appreciate, they make the match quicker to find and the game more expensive for everyone else wow thank you so much guys we need more of them, I wish I could find a match in 1 second instead of 2 and pay 150 dollars per expansion.
He makes very good points and I am not sure why you call him a clown or even talk about FTP appreciation when he specifically talks about the problems of FTP.
I've seen multiple invitations of boycott (I mean not spending anymore, still playing) over the years but I feel like this time I should join, no reason to keep spending 80 every 4 months, get almost nothing out of it, and being bullied by both blizzard and the FTP playerbase and get shit done only for them.
Spending huge amounts of money to a game, even though Blizzard created it, without knowing what's going to happen in the future ... Come on guys! You must not be earning those money so easily in real life. Stop investing unless you are a youtuber or game consultant.
Well yeah of course but by that logic we should only spend money on our family, house and organic food essentially.
Wether blizzard is a good or bad company we're spending money on virtual garbage with unknown future, we knew that from the start and cannot blame blizzard for that.
But you know it can feel good to spend money on trash and actually feel like this is good trash that provides a lot of entertainment. Hearthstone did that for me for a long time. Not anymore. I have a big enough collection that I can chill in Wild pretty much forever for free and that's what I'll do. Or maybe not, because I have gambling addiction, easy money, and companies like blizzard prey on people with half brain like me.
Are you saying that the paying playerbase should show appreciation to the FTP base by keeping their spending high no matter how robbed they feel about it?
I am saying that this battlepass system will cause many of them to quit. I'm not asking paying players to keep spending , they can do what they like, but asking for a repalcement system that fucks the F2Ps even harder in favour of thsoe who pay (for e.g. like a subscription service of some sort) is pointless as it will kill the game, because like it or not, F2P is the vast majority of people online in hearthstone at any one time. I am asking them to appreciate that this change to the battlepass screws F2P players who grind their gold far harder than those who pre-order. Though I appreciate no one is better off, except maybe people who play only Battlegrounds.
And sorry but the foundation of every game is the money that pays its devs and servers. And nobody cares about twitch, we're talking about playing the game here not watching it, online games and communities have existed long before streaming platforms came to life.
Wrong, you clearly have no idea how a company like Blizzard functions. They can and do develop an run games at a loss, servers and all, nor will they immediately pull the plug on a failure, to maintain their brand power. They value twitch (and other content creators on other platforms) hugely for brand exposure and the most effective form of marketting the game industy has ever seen. The influence of mobile gaming strategies on the likes of Acitivision has been massive, and future potential profits matter to publishers of Activisions size.

... Clueless.
He makes very good points and I am not sure why you call him a clown or even talk about FTP appreciation when he specifically talks about the problems of FTP.
He attacks F2P, I've seen him make posts of similar vain before as well, where he accuses them all of leeching, instead of realising they are the only reason his game is still there to play. His "capitlism ho" politics are way too primitive to just transfer on to the situation here. The concept is pretty simple, whales want to be where the people are. The size of the F2P base is what bought them in the first place, and is indirectly what keeps them there, whether they relaise it or not.
I've seen multiple invitations of boycott (I mean not spending anymore, still playing) over the years but I feel like this time I should join, no reason to keep spending 80 every 4 months, get almost nothing out of it, and being bullied by both blizzard and the FTP playerbase and get shit done only for them.
Do as you see fit. That is your choice. But know this, if the F2P foundation of hearthstone evaporates completely then the game is dead almost immediately, no doubt about it.
Spending huge amounts of money to a game, even though Blizzard created it, without knowing what's going to happen in the future ... Come on guys! You must not be earning those money so easily in real life. Stop investing unless you are a youtuber or game consultant.
Gee, thank you so much for you thoughts. I'm totally going to change how I choose to spend my VERY HARD EARNED money because of the comments of some random person on a game forum. I've clearly been brainwashed by Blizzard: here I thought I was paying a reasonable amount of money to play a game I enjoy. But your deeply insightful point that I shouldn't spend any money unless I know exactly what's going to happen in the future has totally changed my mind. I'm never going to buy another car again: it could be crushed by a falling tree and all that money would go to waste. I'm never going out to dinner again: the place could catch fire while I'm there, burning me to a crisp.
They are basically taking all the whales accounts hostage, pointing a GUN at them and saying "if you dont spend more money NOW, we will keep scaring away the f2p players until the game dies!".
Machiavelli would love this one. This is so EVIL! They know the whales have no choice, they already spent thousands of dollars, if the game dies all their money is GONE, since no one buys accounts of a dying game! Fuckin diabolical.
Im so glad I never spent a dime on this piece of shit company, but feel very sorry for all the whales being blackmailed like this, they are being punished for liking a game too much, unbelievable.

I don't know, I never pre-ordered but I sometimes bought those 10-20$ packages because I thought at that time, it's fair and the game was fun at that moment. Like someone said in another thread they are more to open to spend money if they think the money is well spend and the devs are doing a good job. Sadly the game is turning in a wrong direction now but that wasn't always the case.
