I want to start off by saying that I love Hearthstone. It’s fun, causal, and had a lot of strategy that it quite enjoyable. Hearthpwn is a great site. It has amazing articles to outline important updates and an EXCELLENT card release overview that is updated on time.
I joined the community back in the release of the grand tournament (so quite a while ago) and loved it.
Recently though I have noticed an numerous amount of posts that have been mainly complaining that have seemed illegitimate, I understand them being opinionated, but the amount of the same child like drones, and I find it repetitive considering the improvement coming from blizzard.
Nerfs in the far past were so distant that they were rare and unexpected (I’m sure many remember). However, ever since Raz Rumble it has been consistent and very helpful. The meta has seemed fun and more engaging and less boring than in the past thanks to Blizzard’s thankless efforts.
When I say thankless I mean it. Especially from the community, the amount of excitement has dwindled and the complaints (unfounded in my opinion)/angry posts have risen dramatically.
Now to the reason I posted this I’m the first place starts from the recent survey on a proposed progression change in hearthstone. Battle pass as it proposed is both free to play and payed, with payed also confirmed as merely cosmetic (hero skins, coin skins). This concept was confirmed by game director Ben Lee as works and progression and merely a proposal to the community, the players on this site were no happy. Many accusations were thrown in of Blizzard being greedy and threats of quoting when it was merely a survey sent out by Blizzard. It
Then comes the post on Hearthpwn by Ben Lee about said battle pass reiterating that it was merely a survey. He also says “To repack, not reduce” The amount of gold players earn. He talks about making the game more affordable and allow a more open experience. All good things right?
No no, first comments are steaming, saying that “they are taking away our gold“, “with all due respect, f*ck you blizzard.” And “the game is over.”
I respond, quite pissed, explaining how it seemed no one had read the post how everything stated as shown #1 this is not a final or even considered system to be implemented, #2 they are not taking away or lowering gold earnings, in fact they confirmed that there will be more gold earnings!
That post got disliked so much that it has been hidden on the post. That fact that this community has begun so butt hurt and toxic to the point where anyone rightfully praises blizzard for their progress has been shut down is disgraceful. Keep in mind, I do not believe the whole Hearthpwn community is this misguided, and I also thing the Hearthpwn site operators are to blame (on the contrary). I also did not make this post purely because I got downvoted but more to the response of this community to every innovation from Blizzard. This kind of behavior is disappointing and is showing to blizzard that we are not be consulted with when they develop new ideas. We need to stop that. Understand that you must read the WHOLE post before posting comments, and understand that Blizzard has been improving drastically in their efforts towards the community.
I read the whole post, and I think it could have benefited from an edit. Syntax, grammar, and spelling aside—I think you’re correct. It’s a community that finds a lot of complaints, and doesn’t always listen to each other. I don’t think anything is gonna change that. But this isn’t really the best place for meaningful talk about the game. Try the reddit group.
Blizzard: *nerfs cards* Community: That wasn't enough! It wasn't the card that was the problem! I'm gonna post on your worker's wedding picture how bad mage quest is, that will show em'!
Blizzard: *Gives something for F2Ps with a small P2P additional benefits and guarantee to not get 3rd card until you have all of the same rarity* Community: Pay to win! Get better Blizzard, what do you mean we only get 6 free packs and random legendary? Random one? Why cannot I pick?! That's not enough! I cannot afford my 35 golden legendary troll deck with your puny f2p stuff!

Veteran of using wild decks via deck helper only to have lil challenge and because standard is boring, which thinks that RNG is best part of Hearthstone (We all love Unstable Portal and Spellslinger or when Mad Bomber destroys our Piloted Shredder from which you get Doomsayer which destroys entire board).
You’re right, I kind of rushed through this post and has a bit of grammar issues, but thank you for the feedback. I am glad I’m not the only one who thinks this.
Yeah the Hearthpwn community has been a little whiny for a long time. I think everyone kinda knows that haha.
I think there is potential for their new system as long as it's done right. All we can do is wait and see if that is the case haha. They know it's a touchy subject, so I'm sure they're gonna try their best to make sure everything's done right. Maybe an optimistic view? But I prefer to think optimistically rather than focus on so much negativity, which people love to do lol. It's sad really.

Yeah, people are too spoiled here by new nerf cadence. It is good that Blizzard is quick to respond when in serious BS cases like Gala Shaman and DH but current meta is nowhere that BS, I don't any nerfs are required.

Believe me, at the end of the day, the one to blame for all that shit is Blizzard's Public Relations department. One of the worst (if not the worst) in the video game industry.
make the game $100/year, probably the average paying players pay anyways, and make it full access... the entitled FTP clowns (not all of you, and I apologize to the ones who appreciate the game) will dwindle to zero, and I'll bet the content would be much better... Or make it like a poker site where there's 2 versions of the game.

^ oh god.
on topic: I think its good that alot of people are against it, instead of praising it. on the sidenote the new ladder rank system feels good while the quests are mostly 50 gold instead of 60 gold and does the 100 gold reward still exists?
However, ever since Raz Rumble it has been consistent and very helpful. The meta has seemed fun and more engaging and less boring than in the past thanks to Blizzard’s thankless efforts.
Do you realize how ridiculous this sounds? Such arbitrary statement? Yes, this is not the best community. Many members of it are plain idiots. And people do like to complain about everything. But to say that "the meta is fun and more engaging" is just... no. You realize that "fun" and "engagement" are subjective terms? And if people talk about the game being not fun, it's not because they like to waste time on pointless babble, but, just maybe, they don't find it actually fun?
I wish we can just say we're disappointed in humanity. Every gaming community has some levels of toxicity that were never seen just a few years ago. Racism, while slowly fading, is still present and real. We're not keeping up with how our friends and families are doing and everyone's mental health is suffering because of it (even if not plainly noticeable).
It's much harder to realize something is missing in comparison to something in the way unless you've been there before. (a pro gamer watching a novice would instantly see misplays or something small like positioning mistakes). The same way we struggle to have certain information available to clients in my line of work and a feeling of emptiness that you suddenly realize after so long not realizing it was there.
I'm going to try the best I can to bring positivism in every aspect of my life from now on, at work, home, or here in my free time. Hopefully it can spread, maybe starting with you, and with that, I hope you all have a good night and wake up well in the morning :)
It’s not so much that this community is negative; it’s more that people with a negative stance towards a certain action or outcome are the ones you hear. It’s dangerous to then assume the community as a whole is toxic or ungrateful. Take WoW’s latest post of paying their respect to the late Reckful: they introduced an NPC in their game, named Reckful, something the community of WoW was adament about. When they released him into the game, you know what some of the comments were? “Shameful, putting a deceased player into a game that earns them money!” I kid you not.
I’ll tell you this much: about 99% of the community have no idea how to run a game, let alone a business. Everything Blizzard does is aimed at maximizing profits. If you don’t, you’re running your business wrong. There are F2P players that think being F2P still means they should be able to make every meme deck in the game, and if Blizzard does not support them in every way possible, they’re ‘greedy’. Most of us here need to appreciate what this game has done for the F2P-community, instead of always wanting more and more and more. I have one ‘whale’-account and one F2P account, and on the latter, I always have 3 or 4 meta decks I can play. And that’s more than enough for a F2P account. I reach Legend on it every month, I have fun with it, and I can be competitive. There’s literally nothing else I could demand. But it does mean I have to be a lot smarter about my dust-economy. I can’t go out crafting King Crush, Unseal the Vault and Beastmaster Leoroxx, just because I want to play Quest Hunter, and then still have enough dust for all the other 17 decks I want to use my slots for.
All in all; Blizzard has a very toxic community, but it’s mainly due to the fact that it is a massive community. You hear the negativity, and the positive reactions get snowed under, because those that search negativity are attracted by it. That’s what happens on these kind of forums. If you’re happy about the state of the game, which I am, this website and every other forum is a cesspool of complaining manchilds that think they know how to balance a game’s economy, whether it’d be about rewards or balancing the actual cards. I strongly advice you to steer clear of Reddit or Hearthpwn if you’re happy about the game. At very least, until Hearthpwn actively wants to improve the overall quality of the discussions that happen here.

Playing meme decks/characters does not entitle you to call a meta bad.
I recently started to ignore users that spread negativity. Every expansion cycle you can expect threads like this: -the meta is stale -xxx-class/card is op(glide hahaha) -every change gets so much negativity -hs is p2w -rng is killing the game -game is dead -blizzard is greedy
If you look from pages 1 to 10 there isn't really so much negativity but people somehow like drama more than good news and respond to that.
After reading the entirety of the thread this is a high quality "I whine about their whining thread". For everyone to lazy to read the essay, you are welcome.
But honestly i am always curious about these threads and make the same question without never taking an answer. Why do you care?
I can undestard when someone is salty with any game he plays. Regardless whether the rage is justified or not, it has to do with the game he spends his time on and affects him.But why on earth would anyone care about the opinions of others on a game they enjoy.Do you think that game is great and blizzard is fair? Then more power to you.But getting annoyed about what random dudes and gals say about the game you enjoy...sorry but that is pathetic.
For some reason Hearthstone's community is high on the list of the most toxic communities in games. I got used to it, but really it's so annoying. I'm also playing Gwent, which often has similiar problems, like problems with balance of ne cards after new expansion. You know what people do on forums? Make memes and laugh at them. Really there are no salt posts and toxic stuff, because everyone knows that CDPR will eventually nerf the problematic cards anyway, so why complain? Also, a while ago they introduced something called "Journey", which is in fact a battlepass. I have not read any comment like on the latest post on Hearthpwn, that you mentioned. Actually, people were really excited and the Journey was a real success.
You absolutely have a point, however, it is mostly a matter of being aware of the posting users. Keep an eye on that, and you will realize there are some highly active users that seem to have made it their mission to spread negativity (I think we all know some of major players here). They do it to such a degree, that they even go into threads with positivity, just to ensure they get to spew their bile - and yea, that is quite frustrating, but realizing how few (albeit zealous) they are can be a comfort.
@jainaishot: First off, been dying to know for a long time: Why did you shoot Jaina? Secondly though, it’s not to do with a difference of opinion. It is fine to have threads where people can voice their concern about the game, no beef with that. It’s when every single thread is invaded by it, no matter the topic, that is when it gets problematic. I’m sure you saw Sherman’s slightly facetious thread about praising Team5. It had a title that undoubtedly inviting for an opportunity to share positive feelings about the development team, but instead it was a figurative flood of negative posters. So you may ask why the people with a positive attitude care (which I think I covered), but to me the question should be reversed. Why do the negaholics feel a need to impose on every remotely positive topic they come across?
OP, I agree with the gist of your post. Unfortunately it seems like the whiners are the only ones who actually bother posting here. Thousands of nerf this and that threads, tons of posts bitching about Bli$$ard - it's like they can't win no matter what they do. It wasn't always quite so bad but I've noticed it's become a lot worse since we thought the site would close down. Seems like we lost a lot of people who never came back.
Anyway, on a positive note: I've been enjoying the new expansion quite a bit actually. There seems to be a a decent enough deck for every class which is great. It doesn't seem like there's one deck that's completely warping the meta like DH release or Gala Shaman - just some very powerful decks that are beatable. Seems good to me.
