I just hit legend for the third time ever (I've been playing since GvG) but this is the first time I've made it to legend in back to back months. Looks like I'm gonna finish somewhere in the 3000's. Now I know that's not the BEST, and far from the top, but would I be considered a "good" player? What, in your opinion, is a good rank?
(Also, there are many different skill levels here on this forum, so don't be jerks to each other. Just thought it'd be a fun discussion to find out what people consider to be good.)
Personally I find my Rank Celling around 10. That's mostly due to time but also some other factors, such as misplays and bad mulligans on my side of the board.
I hit rank 5 for the first time ever this expansion. I usually dick around between ranks 15-10 because climbing is so tedious and it's hard to find a deck that's fun and consistent but Oblivitron hunter really grew on me so I wanted to climb with it. I had to use token druid to get through the rank floors because of that aggro threshold but beyond that it was mostly the hunter deck. I don't think you can quantify how good someone is based on their rank. There's probably a lot of good players who don't bother climbing because of the monotony of the grind and there's probably a lot of legend players who aren't very good. I'm gonna shoot for legend next season since it's too late for me to go for it this season but I wouldn't classify myself as a "good player"
Seriously, its not about skill in this game. Ive been legend 3 times, its about how much time you have.
Look at the decks, its zero creativity in making decks to now. They make the decks for us , you can see it amile away what you need to put togheter. They make 1 card, and you need to put another card to make the other card to work well.
It would take a normal player 1 day to figure out how the meta will be .
I hit rank 4 this expansion and that's as far as I've ever been before. I started playing late last year. I want to hit legend at least once, some day.

That is a really good point. Small deck size and the core nature of this game steers it that way. Expansions don't contain that many new powerful cards that compete with each other, its just like this deck needs this and that deck needs that.
When are you considered being "good"? Imo that's not tied to a rank. You're good when you know how to play, rarely missplay and learn from your mistakes.
I'd consider someone very good when they know to to play specific matchups, i.e. knowing exactly what your and your opponent's win condition is and how to reach/prevent it. This is especially true for control vs. control matchups, even moreso if it's a mirror.
I would say you are "good" if you can hit legend rank at all. The argument that it doesn't take any skill and it's just a grind is BS. There are plenty of players who attempt to navigate a tier 1 deck to legend ranks and fail because of sub-optimal plays. A lot of R5 players think "I went from R15 to R5, so I could easily push to legend if I just had more time." But the fact is that from around R4 to Legend you will encounter 99% tier 1 decks and players that are making few mistakes. So ultimately, it comes down to correct mulligans, optimal plays, RNG and simply the match-up to decide who wins. Back in the pirate warrior day I would say that bad players could pretty easily make a legend push, but in this meta, it does require some good decision making.
In truth, none of these are correct - it's relative. You could consider yourself good once you hit rank 15 or consider yourself good once you reach legend 15 and think you are trash if you are only a dumpster legend rank. If you are looking for numbers, a few years ago there were statistics showing .5% of players reached legend. That's likely outdated. I think it should be about 2.5% at this point. But if you are top 3000, I would say that's very good. You are one of the top players, this game has a very large player base. Although it depends on who you consider your peers. Some would say it's fantastic and some would say it's bad if they are used to being legend rank. Everyone is looking up at the players above them. It's relative.

Its relative and it doesnt have to be tied to a certain rank.
I consider a good player anyone who has his/her own idea while making a deck and has success with it. It doesnt matter if its just a small but very important tech change or a completely off-meta deck, just use your brain while building your deck, adapt to the meta, understand your matchups, and modify your deck when it needs to.
A few years ago there was a time when paladin was considered the worst class. Then there was this guy, named Kolento, who played his own paladin deck and has reached rank 1 legend on all 3 servers. I consider him a good player. :)
it depends on what you consider good, but just remember that people who frequent sites about a game mistake where the average line for players is at. before at the end of each month they would say at what point you were in all the playerbase, i believe, and people here will say its all about time, rank 5 was like top15%, so yeah legend is pretty good i would say.

4/3/19 RIP Keith Flint. 😔

After 10 (hell, even 15) it’s all about time. I’d rather play memes at 10 or 15 then grind boring garbage for no prestige.
consistent top200 finishes. everything else its just grind

You are only considered good if you hit legend rank 1.
Once you've hit Rank 50, you're doing pretty good.
I love how literally nobody has actually answered your question. I’d say reaching top 1000, not necessarily even finishing, makes you a good player.
It also depends, partly, on what you are willing to play.
Eg many players are not willing to switch too many decks or play some classes/archetypes, just because those are better for climbing.

I usually finish at rank 5 for the golden epic, but I usually get rank 2 or 1 each season then I start playing meme decks and drop back down to 5.
i would pick a good deck and shoot for rank 5.. a golden epic for free once a month is awesome
