Hello there, since i joined the hearthstone community in kobolds and catacombs, i have been hearing "this is the worst meta of all times!!1" and i think it doesn't matter what happens, there will always be someone that dislikes the current state of the game. So i just wanted to ask, what were the best metas for you guys?
My favourite was definitely the witchwood one, odd and even felt fresh and i truely enjoyed big hunter/deathrattle hunter to the max. I actually liked the meta after the raza nerf as well. My joy kinda went downhill after the boomsday hype was decreasing, since the game felt almost the same. The recent one is not actually problematic to me, but just boring as hell. Many decks are just the same from WW and i cannot wait for the new meta and the op cards to rotate.
When i see old videos, i am sad that i missed the old gods meta the most. That seemed to be REALLY fun, from what i could see from the highlights. So what metas were the most joyous ones? :P
I would be wary of people who claim WotOG was the "best meta ever" or similar. Rose-tinted glasses and all that. The sheer number of cancerous C'thun decks was overwhelming back then. It was a bit like Odd decks these days. They were all the same, every game and were completely oppressive. Consider yourself lucky you didn't have to go through it ;-)
The metas over the last 18 months or so may have had their ups and downs but they have been better by far than most of the early ones.
My personal favorite was the League of Explorers meta. I think Reno was the perfect counter to aggro decks because a dumb aggro player who dumps all of their resources into face gets punished when the face becomes rich but a smart one would realize it's a highlander deck judging by card choices and hold back either for burst or just building a big board and had a fair chance at winning. Also high value games thanks to Brann. Plus Whispers was right around the corner and that was a fun expansion too.
Whispers of the Old Gods had a really good meta until shaman got tier 0. I loved Cth'un Warrior. I don't think old gods are even close to being as cancerous as Baku and Genn
P.S. it was even better with pre-nerf Innervates and an extra Savage Roar :)
(If you didn't know, the 3 Treants used to have charge and died at end of turn, but didn't matter because with savage roar x2 you'd just kill your opponent)

hehe i heard that many cried about this too, i wonder if this would be too op now as well.
Easily kobolds broken meta for me. Making 5 voidlords by turn 8, 30 to 0 your opponent with a hero power, 0 mana 5/5s and 4 mana call to arms, burn mage with aluneth allowing you to just dump. It was a broken meta, but everything was broken, so it didn’t matter.
my favorite is the one around the grand tournament. I think this might be the worst. there's just too many insane cards, that turns everything on its head. Take rexar for instance, that card will single handedly win a control matchup for any hunter way to many times, and its just so infuriating. Theres too many cards that fill the role of an entire deck right now, and I hate it. luckily many of these are going out with the next expansion, but I was really hoping they'd remove these cards all together.
WotOG meta was fun for me. Shaman was anoying back then but not quite as unbeatable as it was during Karazhan.
The game did not have Infinite Value tools at this point (that started with Jades in MSoG and got worse with frozen throne) and no uncounterable permanent effects like Baku/Genn, Rogue Quest etc. Also a ton less OTK stuff.
All these new things that i just complained about definately made the game very exiting and fresh when they came out - but i feel like they are not beneficail for the health of the game because the entire concept of value and card advantage went into the dumpster in the last 2 years.
That beeing said: balancewise the newer metas have definately been better than the old ones. 100%. There is no doubt about that. My judgement is more based on how the decks oppertae these days versus the old times.
Pirate warrior and Jade druid were at the same time, right? I can't remember. But if yes, then that was the worst.
I do not like aggro. I think zoo decks are fine, but they should never get active support/design from Blizzard (which they do... Prince, Funglemancer, Odd decks, face hunter and face mage, etc). The game's reward system is based on grinding quick efficient wins; the game's fun system, imo, is the opposite of that. Makes it hard to enjoy the game with so much aggro. But I can't blame aggro players because... Blizz wants you to win (or lose) as quickly as possible...

It is always "the worst Meta of all times". Oh, and "the game is dying". It's been dying since Beta.
yeah, but somehow people tend to still play the dead game even tho they hate it so much.

Pre-nerf Force of Nature + Savage Roar meta /s

Mine has to be mean streets. Close second league of explorers and karazhan. Because my favourite 3 decks ever were in thise expansions
If you have a deck idea might as well go full ham on it.

in b4 Rise of Shadows is "the worst meta ever". I'm probably already too late. LUL.

Please nerf kalecgos!! Blizzard you broke the game wtffff!
in my opinion there was 2 time that the meta was amazing and so enjoyable to play
1- in the old gods era
2- un goro post quest rouge nerf
Un goro. Un goro meta was the best.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
