The doom and gloom has been running for weeks now, but after the final reveal stream I have reached a monumental, momentous conclusion.
Rastakhan's Rumble is markedly above average.
RR has done what 3rd sets should do. Introduce some dangerous and subversive ideas that may be absolute dogshit in constructed or may define the meta for the entire year and four months of their time in standard. I wouldn't claim to know which is which yet, but I imagine we'll see both.
Witchwood was always going to be a heavy influencer on the newly rotated standard meta, particularly with Baku and Genn providing a baseline level of power in successful decks. Boomsday, however, was heavily criticized for having little to no effect on standard. Regardless of your feelings on Boomsday, it is statistically true it saw the least inclusion in tier 1-4 decks as a whole.
I am very comfortable in assuming this will not be true for Rastakhan.
But whether or not RR adds a few cards to existing decks is not really the measure of a great 3rd set. Final sets are the time to take chances. Think about Mean Streets of Gadgetzan. Love or hate the jade mechanic, we can all come together in admitting that the 3rd set was the right time to try it (if ever). And then there's our ole pal Kobolds and Catacombs. Voidlord and Cube anyone?
The last 2 3rd sets have been unbelievable game changers. RR has a lot to live up to. And yet, what I love the most about this set is it doesn't seem to go quite as far as its predecessors. It feels as though there is a sweet spot somewhere between the Grand Tournament and a new Jade Druid. RR might have actually dropped in that sweet spot.
Let's take a look class by class. Consider this my "going out on a limb" post of the year.
The druid cards of RR clearly show an awareness of how much Druidstone we've played in 2018. It seems fairly clear that existing druid decks gain the least of any class. And yet, there's a teaser sitting there in the epic slot. Actually, both epics are quite interesting. Is someone going to make the 12/24 Tyrantus druid work? Probably not, but who knows? And Treespeaker . . . oh, Treespeaker. We know for a fact that Soul of the Forest fronted the best deck in the meta for a while (don't @ me, I didn't make up the win rates). Will Treespeaker see its day?
Hunter is my favorite class in RR. It's rare that you see so many good cards be printed for a class and almost none of them contribute to the last meta's existing decks. I realize Zul'jin works well in spell hunter, but almost nothing fits with deathrattle packages. Almost as if that was deliberate. Halazzi, Master's Call, and Spirit of the Lynx should have us all searching our entire collection for keyword: "beast". Whether or not it's possible to sell out completely to the beast package and make Master's Call a sure thing is an open question, but midrange and aggro hunter have gotten a huge push. Zul'jin is a little underwhelming compared to what we're used to in the deathknights, but after the 2019 rotation, we'll be playing him happily. Also, I sincerely doubt Boomzooka/Revenge is a thing, but I'm open to being proven wrong.
Mage has convincingly pushed the odd package for the first time. The specter of DIE, INSECT! is worth the price of admission by itself. Also, for a full year we've basically taken for granted that any secret played by a mage is either Runes or Counterspell. Splitting Image WILL see play as a spoiler for opponents trying to play around other secrets. From the perspective of secret design, that makes it amazing. On a personal note, I will be world first at getting 4 Rags in play thru Jan'alai. Just so you know.
So, is everyone tired of Odd Paladin? Well . . . it will probably still be here. But, Blizzard has finally made a good faith effort to make the control paladin a thing. Technically, I'm not sure heal paladin and control paladin are the same thing, but Priest Thekal and company have created some amazing payoffs for the heal package. I'll be interested to see if the Paladin spellstone is finally a thing, but either way, the RR paladin package is just truly interesting. You've got massive swings in health (both up and down) and some ridiculously powerful stuff which require massive support. I'm speaking not only of Shirvallah, but Zandalari Templar and the spirit as well. I am jaded from years of control paladin being a fool's errand, but I'm more hopeful now than at any time since Mysterious Challenger.
To me, priest feels like the biggest (and perhaps only) swing and a miss of the set. I've tried to make a deck that effectively uses the Loa and spirit, but I'm not smart enough to pull it off. I hope someone else is. For the moment, all I can say is Mass Hysteria is bonkers and I actually think Grave Horror can be good in constructed. As to the rest . . . no effing idea.
Rogue is a bit lackluster as well, but that spirit. Oh, that spirit! We all remember Brann. We all know the horrors he wrought. That spirit is going to wreak havoc. I don't pretend to know how or in what context, but I'm telling you now. Spirit of the Shark is high in the running for "future most hated card of RR". I'm not up on my standard pirates, so I'm not sure about the rest.
The shaman legendaries are ridiculous. As a pair, they are very, very obviously the most powerful of the set. I think before the year is out, Zentimo will be despised by control players. There are many ways to use him, but honestly, I'm not sure you have to get more fancy than Rockbiter/Windfury. Aggro seems to be his bread and butter. As to the Frog King (Queen?), honestly, is anything holding back pure burn shaman with a small elemental package? These guys are deceptive because they look like value cards, feel like value cards, and yet I think they end up being "throw 30 at the face" cards when all is said and done. I think there are better ways to get your value than Spirit of the Frog, but maybe I'm overlooking something. Also, has anyone considered the implications of Keleseth plus Bog Slosher? Remember kids: Do not let Keleseth live turn 2.
Warlock . . . um, did they actually do it? For two years, the memers and dreamers have tried to make discard lock work. Have they finally done it? I think it's possible, if not now, then certainly in 2019. Yes, I realize you lose the quest at rotation, but warlock loses SO MUCH when that rotation happens. All it would take is a touch more support in the next set. Jeklik and Soul Warden are absolutely ridiculously powerful in a world where Lackey/Voidlord is not an option. I will boldly predict the memes will stay dreams during the Year of the Raven, but we'll see these guys in full force come rotation. For the record, I don't think the handbuff mechanic is going to work, but I will point out that if you could hand clone Jeklik a few times, the spirit is suddenly looking quite sexy.
From a game design standpoint, warrior is very satisfying. We've had rush since Witchwood, and though Darius and Zilliax have shown up in a lot of warrior stuff, there hasn't been effective support for Rush as a tempo mechanic. Akali and the spirit are really nice in terms of rounding out the Witchwood block and the Rush concept as a whole. I'm not saying either of these will be sitting at top Legend, but I like the idea of a legitimate midrange warrior deck existing again. On that subject, dragons are fun. I've missed the old Netherspite Historian/Drakonid Operative priests. This looks like a nice return to those days. The one thing I will say against the warrior package in RR is that deathrattle hunter is oppressive towards control warrior, and I'm not sure anything changes in December. Dragon Warrior will be better in that matchup than Odd Warrior, but still probably at a major disadvantage.
RR's neutral cards are a nice mix of support, power, and memery. Hakkar has to be the greatest card flavor since Yogg Saron. Mojomaster is going to show up in quite a few decks, especially if druids are still around in force. Oondasta is scary in standalone power and combo implication. Gurubash chicken is . . . there. It feels like the neutrals won't play nearly as big a part in standard as the class cards, but there are definitely some allstars. Crowd Roaster single-handedly makes Dragon Warrior an actual deck instead of a meme. Da Undatakah has the potential to go nuts. We will see.
I'm hyped. I know the salt is flowing over Zul'jin and a perceived lack of set power, but I think that will prove to be unwarranted. Eventually, we have to decide how we like our 3rd sets. Do you want a new Jade mechanic, another Lackey/Voidlord, or will you be content with a decent number of new ways to compete in standard? I don't think we have another Jade on our hands. Maybe someone smarter than me will find it, but for now, I'm optimistic that most classes have new tools in the cardbox.
See you guys on the ladder.

As much as I agree that RR is a fairly powerful expansion, it's disappointing to see that it's ONLY thanks to the class cards. 99% of the neutral cards are just plain terrible, even to the point where they will barely synergize with anything at all. The only good cards come from the pool of Legendaries, with a few common exceptions.
Rogue cut me the deepest, only getting 3 Pirates for Hooktusk, from which only 1 and a half actually synergize with her (let's be honest, nobody wants to pull Sharkfin Fan with her).
Yeah, it would be a travesty on the order of freeze shaman if they don't follow up on the pirate theme in future sets.
Rogue really was the odd man out. Priest is just crazy weird stuff, but rogue is just, "wouldn't it be cool if we had good pirates?"

Overall, class cards will be dominant this time.
I'm okay with this. Some of the problems in the past have come because certain neutral cards were too strong and you saw them in everything. I like them better as support cards, which is where I differ from you here, A lot of these neutral cards fill a variety of rolls within specific decks, it's just a matter of whether or not those decks are good that remains the question
Op made a (text) wall and had mexicans pay for it!
As for the expansion, well i kinda liked it as well to be honest. While all ideas used were nothing new, i liked the end results. Heck i will even try discard warlock!LOL

Just as a point of order, the wall of text meme is meant to describe long posts with no paragraph arrangements or separations. I do not write walls of text.
