Scaphandre, your post is full of crap, and i'll tell you why: Value is subjective. If not enough people buy it, they wont do something like this again. However, if ppl find it worthy, they will buy it and that fact alone craps in your entire argument.
Also, you completely disregard the fact that 80 bucks are not the hero alone. "Oh the 50 bucks bundle already brings a golden leg so we can ignore that part" NO, we cant actually.
The truth is, you pay an extra 30 buck for 30 more packs ANd Jaraxxus, not for Jaraxxus alone, like you wanna make it seem. Are those packs lootboxes, are they full of filler crap, etc? Yes but that is another discussion altogether, a wider discussion that affects the whole game industry. However, 1 buck for 1 pack is the best they usually offer, and i'm aware the WW preorder was awesome, it's true, but you also gotta consider that the quality of cards in the WW was predominantly subpar.
Let's also remember that preorders used to be 50 packs and a cardback, that's all. Now, be it 50 or 80 packs, you also get the cardback, a golden legendary (or legendary of your choice) and in the mega bundle, also a hero skin. They are not doing any satanic, heretic awful sorcery, it's just business and they are selling COSMETIC stuff for money so that the mega bundle is more attractive.
I dont know if i will buy it or not, i never preorder until i see all the cards. But if i like what i see, im buying the mega bundle for sure, bc 1 pack for 1 euro is better than any other bundles they offer in the shop, and bc these preorders bring a similar value than that of the WW. Yes, you read well, similar value. In the WW you got 20 more packs, now you get a golden leg which means a legendary of YOUR CHOICE. Now, do you prefer 20 packs or a legendary of choice? Considering the diminishing returns of packs once you open 50+, i'd say i prefer the legendary.
So, you know, ffs, it's a cosmetic hero. Ppl throwing a tantrum bc either they cant afford it (apparently it's not your case, and to those ppl i say, find a job and earn the money like the rest of us do) or they can afford it but they believe it's too much, and yet they want the hero. To the latter i'd say, somebody has to pay otherwise the game shuts down, and the deal is still good compared to all the other deals this game has offered. Assume it and move on.
And btw, imb4 "anyone who disagrees with me is stupid", i couldnt give less of a ****. The promotion is happening, take it or leave it.
The new player experience is not as bad as everyone makes it sound. Every 4 months they get tons of free stuff. Back when I started around GvG we did not get free legs. We did not have any guarantee for first 10 packs. Quests did not give you near as much gold. And Ranked play was terrible.
And most importantly, opening same legendaries like all the time. 2 Al’akir, 2 Nozdormu, 2 Illidan here :D
To the topic: I understand your frustration, but I have to join to the ppl before me, who already said that Blizzard is a company, and they keep the game f2p by getting enough money from ppl who pay for these. So it is just natural that they will do everything to get more ppl to buy, be it an alternate hero or any other appealing stuff.
I've spent $300 on this game so far, but always when the deals are good, and the $80 bundle seems like garbage to me. At first I thought $50 was garbage as well and was going to pass on this preorder altogether, but the more I've been thinking about it, the golden legendary is effectively worth 16 extra card packs, so it's not a horrible deal although still worse than Witchwood.
Seems like Blizzard has done everything right. We're on page 13 of the discussion, so following the mantra that there is no "bad PR", the mega bundle has been a huge success. And looking at the fact that the hero portrait is really just an added incentive, since the price per pack is equal between the $50 and the $80 bundle the strategy seems to work just fine.
Enough people will happily spent the $30 extra, which they might not have otherwise, and some people will probably take the opportunity to buy both bundles, because they can still save 16c per pack vs. the regular $70 60 pack bundle (plus getting two (golden) legendaries).
How can anybody be surprised that a for-profit company is actually employing marketing strategies to make more money? And for those who don't like it, you always have the choice to spend your money elsewhere. All you are missing is a hero portrait and a card back that have zero impact on the gameplay whatsoever anyway.
Even if Blizzard decided to sell the skin alone for $80, it would be ok by me. Because it is their choice to make and does not affect my way of playing in any meaningful way.
i live in poland and it really sux because i need pay 350złotych (pl valute) when i get 2500pln for month from work, wtf -.- that sad, if somebody get something like 2500$ (dolars for the same work).
Nothing to said, that sux for poor country but who cares? i dont thing blizzard, i even need to buy it with EURO and thats even more expensive than dolars hahaha 15% from my payout for this bundle but if i dont buy itd i think i will dont have fun at start of expansion.... SAD.
Why they dont do adventures???? JUST F......ING PACKS EVERY ADDITION OMG KURWA MAĆ
I'm more bothered by the fact that they're releasing Goblins vs Gnomes 2.0...
Are they already out of ideas? Hearthstone was such a good idea but it has been squandered, particularily with all the lousy expansions and adventures. There has only been one good expansion, Un'Goro, but it was far from perfect. Why do I even bother any more, Hearthstone will never realize its full potential or even close to it
I always buy the preorder, and this preorder just feels bad in a way that it should not happen. Oddly enough if you were only able to buy the $50 or the $80 but not both it would feel better.
The way I see it is you're getting 80 packs for $80. That's a pack a dollar, a 1:1 ratio. Then, on top of buying the 80 packs, you get a free Golden Legendary, a free card back, and a free Hero Portrait which on their own cost about $10.
If you want, you can even see it as $70 for 80 card packs and $10 for a Hero Portrait for the total of and $80 bundle. I don't see a bad part to this. Blizzard is a company that needs money to do what they do and make a living for themselves. Nothing is free my friend. I'm buying both bundles because it's just that good of a deal. It's almost 50% off what it would cost if you were to buy them from the shop after the expansion is released Aug. 7th.
some people are really happy they made that bundle. some people want to spend 100$+ on packs anyway so the second bundle helps them get more pack for a discounted price.
even if u hate this bundle u can just get the regular one for the same price as always.
the point u made that last expansion they gave away 70 packs for 50$. well it was the first time they did it, all the other expansions were 50 packs for 50$ and in this one u get a free golden legendary u can argue that 20 packs<golden legendary...
i just dont get your point... it's like a vegan protest.
I'm sorry, this could be taken as a bit mean spirited but I mean it in the most literal of terms.
If $80 constitutes a "huge paywall" for you, perhaps you have more pressing concerns in your life than the next alternate hero skin.
Calm down there wannabe badass. There are countries in the world where $80 is half their monthly income. Even in the western world 80$ are a lot of money for a good portion the population. I know that because because i was one of them as student. Now that i earn twice the average income of my country i can easily afford the bundle even if it had 3 times the price. Your attitude however is the attitude of those who have not worked a single day in their lives OR of those who had everything prepared for them by their parents. If you had faced and overcomed any real adversity by your own you would not be so arrogant.
Having $80 to spend on a game doesn't remotely approach badass.
If $80 represents half your monthly income, I'm sure Blizzard would be the first to admit that you probably shouldn't buy the mega-bundle. You probably should be dealing with a card game at all, as it seems there are more pressing demands on your time. Games are leisure activities, and this one requires a computer and constant internet connection, all of which indicates that every player enjoys a certain amount of privilege.
Nevertheless, if you are F2P you are not one of the players that allows the game to continue. I'm glad that those of us who supply Blizzard with an ongoing incentive to support the game get some cool stuff. Furthermore, given how some games have gone way too far into pay 2 win mechanics, I'm grateful Blizzard has kept the perspective to keep perks cosmetic while still understanding that incentive to monetize is good.
And no, I'm not facing particular financial adversity at the moment, though $80 is an incredibly low standard by which to judge such things. If I was, I'd have the sense of purpose to spend my time on more worthwhile endeavors than gaming forums.

Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.
Alternatively, don't buy it b/c it's just a cosmetic skin...
Did you miss the part where I mentioned it was a cosmetic skin that people actually really want? It's for Warlock, and it's Jaraxxus as a cyborg. They knew Jaraxxus was a popular character, hence why they locked him behind a preorder paywall instead of letting us unlock him a different way, which is odd since we got Arthas as a free unlock.
OH fucking stop. All you are doing are dropping buzzwords like fucking "lootboxes" and "pre-order" but doing it entirely out of the context of their original meaning. You are being so damn dishonest right now it hurts. We aren't "pre-ordering" some complete unknown. It's hearthstone, we generally know what we are going to get. We know what the game play is like and we know we like it. "Lootboxes" are a perfectly fine mechanic to have in a FTP game where literally everything is earn-able by playing the game.
Also stop with the fucking name calling of anyone who pre-orders. It's underhanded shitty tactic that belies the truth behind your post. You don't give two shits about the pre-order controversy or loot boxes or any of that BS. You just want someone to shit on but make it look like you are taking the highroad. You like to call us schills because we support a game we love to play? Because we are willing to take advantage of pre-orders that give us more than we generally get?
To clarify something here, I am not here defending Blizzard, I don't need to defend them from you. I am here specifically to tell you you are as dishonest as you claim blizzard is with these shit posts that misrepresent, and demean anyone who doesn't see your point of view.
For me it was the best promotion ever. In Mexico 1 dollar is 20 pesos. 40 packs cost 35 dollars, and I payed 50 dollars for 80 packs, a golden legendary and a new hero portrait.
Sorry not sorry, but Blizzard is not a small indie company.
The children's part was to emphasize the ridiculous price point. The majority of players of Hearthstone are probably elementary/highschool students and don't have jobs, rather allowances. Just look at the eSport segment, half the players aren't even legal adults but I will digress.
Quoted for truth. Some people seem to forget that Hearthstones target audience is NOT your ordinary adult with a job + disposable income. Yeah, there are players who threw hundreds if not thousands of bucks at this game but that doesn't suddenly serve as the ultimate rule.
I'm kinda torn on this. I'm one of those people that buys the each expansion, and overall probably spend $200-$300 a year on Hearthstone, but I play nearly 1000 hrs a year so I'm really only looking at a Quarter for every hour I'm playing... Makes you realize how crazy arcades are...
I will also likely get the $80 bundle, but I do think that $80 is a bit much... I feel it should be something like this $10 - Mecha-Jarraxus $50 - 70 packs (you gave us it once so don't go backtracking on us now blizzard!) $80 - 100packs + Mecha-Jarraxus (I think this gives a price point for just about everyone while giving enough incentives and value to want to move up to the next tier)

The packs are cumulative. If you buy both preorder you’ll open 130 packs.
Just to be sure because your edit 2 is misleading

Is this the first time they lock a hero behind a pay wall ?
I mean they already did this with 3 heroes and in a shittier way at least here they are bundling it with cheap packs and a golden legendary.
I'm buying both bundles for sure. You whiners are welcome for me and my ilk allowing you to keep playing this game.
