Blizzard is giving away you a free expensive card... and it's lose/lose because it might not be the one you want? If it's truly terrible it's 400 dust toward what you want.
I don’t really understand why you don’t. Think about it like real life / money lottery (since opening packs is a form of gambling, as stated by recent Chinese laws). If you can afford to gamble millions of dollars, you won’t care about losing a few hundreds. If you can (or are ready to) gamble $500 or so on each expansion, it doesn’t mean that you can afford to “lose” $50.
I’ve spent more than most players, but I can’t really afford it so in the abyss of my addiction, I try to optimize the way I waste my money.
There is no lasting value in a Hearthstone collection: it will be worthless when you stop playing or Blizzard pulls the plug (not any time soon, but will Hearthstone last 20 years?). You should view the money you put into it as a subscription to the Standard format. And paying a $500 for a four-month subscription is pretty steep.
If you're spending more than you can afford, not crafting golden cards would be the easiest way to reduce your spending. Although perhaps switching to a game that doesn't have paid gambling mechanics would be easier; I hear Slay the Spire is very good.

There is no lasting value in anything multiplayer, by that standard. All card games will eventually die out and you'll have a bunch of pieces of cardboard. Online games will lose players and you'll have virtual bits that you invested a thousand hours into. What's your point?
If you want a certain legendary there's a chance of 1/23 you'll get it, if you do and you wanted to craft it golden, just dust the normal version and craft a golden one, if you want that legendary so much, it shouldn't really matter.
Why do you need a golden version? Much better to have 2 legendaries than 1 golden legendary, you obviously won't like only one legendary from the xpac, so why would you even complain about freebies.
It's like handing out candy to a kid, and the kid doesn't accept the candy because he wants chocolate
EDIT: also if you got the legendary you want, out of 23, you should feel pretty lucky not sad

I can always log in on my old wow and go jump in the orgrimmar ah in my monkey in a bubble suit while i dance with archmage vargoth, only for 12.99
Speaking as a whale myself, the %age of legendaries in the set that are really good will likely be 30% at best, meaning you're more likely to get something you don't want to spend dust on.
Even if you do get one you wanted to craft in gold, what do you do when you upgrade anyway? :) Yep, you DE the original one because why would you want icky-normal cards?
It is pretty sad to see how many of you dont seam to get the general idea. If you personally dont give a flying f*** about golden cards you obviously arent affected by this at all.
Lets assume you wanted to craft a golden Aluneth with the release of KaC. If you get your free legendary on login you have a 1/9 chance to get it for free go to the collection disenchant it and recraft it in golden. Of course this would still be free 400 dust, but it would still feel kinda stupid and bad that you hit the 1/9 chance of getting 400 dust instead of a second legendary. This experience is easy to prevent by giving you at least a chance to craft your desired golden card before getting your free rewards.
You're complaining that you feel ripped off because you've got a 1/9 chance of getting a bad deal by receiving a free 400 dust, but are happy to hand over 3200 dust so that strangers on the internet might say to themselves "Oh, look, this guy's got a golden version of that card."
This is among the most stupid threads in this forum.
It's like the guy who complained about a new set because it meant he was going to have to get new cards.
well, I think this kind of answer is the stupidest I'll read today. Op is right, you know, and he's not even really complaining. His suggestion are smart to me.

That it makes sense to put in money so you can play more different decks, but it doesn't make sense to put in money just for collecting cards, in my opinion. That's why I compared it to a subscription: you pay to play.
If you like collecting stuff, there are plenty of single-player collectathon games that will only drain your time, not your wallet.
I realize that it's easy for me to say as someone who isn't addicted. At the same time, I think that there are bigger issues with the cost of Hearthstone than dust efficiency when crafting golden legendaries. If you can't enjoy the game with a limited collection but are not oozing money, this is not the game you should be playing.

Well...you're wrong. It's absolutely *just* complaining. And it's a stupid complaint.
Here's another take on this: Would it be fun if you "Discover" a legendary? Like it pulls 3 random class legendaries that you might otherwise get, but you get to pick one of them. Just a thought :)
The worst legendary possible is still 400 dust.
So, if Blizzard wants me to a have a Leg, by all means go ahead. Thank you Blizz for the move, btw.
Your getting at minimum 400 dust for free
and with the extra 3 packs which equal about 120 dust, that's free 520 dust for doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
Bakunter for next meta

Chances are that if you are the type of guy that crafts golden legendaries you wouldnt give a shit about what you get
Uhh, where do I even begin???

lol you need a doctor OP... this thread is non sense
If you have enough dust to craft golden legendary because you just like it, you shouldnt cry about 400 dust from disenchanted free legendary

I don't post very often but this thread just twisted my mind ... you should also complain that it will be night soon ..
If you craft a golden legendary you CANNOT get it again unless you have a full legendary collection. Even not in non-golden version.

Seems like this post is actually suggesting something completely different but no-one has realized it.
We should have a button to upgrade a card from regular to golden by spending the difference in dust cost between the two.
As a non-whale I probably would never use this button, but it seems like a totally reasonable and common-sense feature to have.
