I have been playing HS as a f2p gamer since 2015. Though I wasn't around during the beta stage, I have played the game since GvG was released. At first , I found leisure in the game with its simple play structure (as compared to other card games, like MTG). However, as time went by, I found myself losing interest. Especially when they nerfed Charge Warrior (which was my best deck). I did not play a lot after One Night, though I did drop by when KoFT was released.
The RNG is a bit insufferable, and I find no joy in doing the daily grind to earn packs. All the while, p2w gamers reach legend every season.
Though there is saltiness, this thread is beyond that. I just want to ask... Is HS still worth it?
Do you ask if a game is worth your time if you dont enjoy it anymore as you used to? I think the answer to that is
NO?
If youve been palying this game with lesser interest since charge warrior nerf then
a. youre addicted to it
b. youre torturing yourself just like addicts do
There are other better TCG with more depth and better f2p experience. HS is a game for when you poop or a game for MAX 2 years of playing... Or for people who love this kind of rng fiesta.
If you play what you want or how you want, you will find joy. Personally I dont play ranked much because I hate seeing all the netdecks one after the other; i play in normal mode and have fun with original creations and stuff.
It is likely that you play ranked (I feel a lot of saltiness among ranked players) so I suggest you not to play ranked for a while and see if you still like HS.

The question is more of a feeling out process. I still drop by from time to time, but you are correct in your observations. My reason for posting this thread is to gauge whether there are things that I should still try out before giving up on this game altogether.

Youre telling me people play non meta decks in casual? I dont know which game youre reffering to but it definately aint hearthstone.

You can try deckbuilding if you havent already. But its not for f2p players.
My main problem currently is the new release schedule with 3 full expansions and the additional cost of maintaining a full or nearly full collection. I always felt the need to have a full collection but atm it does not feel worth it to me anymore and I consider to quit, although that thought feels kind of terrible as well considering how much time and money I invested over the years.
Isn't this entirely subjective? I link the enjoyment to what the aims are. My highest rank ever was rank 8 and I'd LOVE to get higher but have to accept that I'm probably good enough. In this instance, meeting better players who play the same decks better than I do.
Not fun.
But, if I decide that bouncing between janky decks between 8-10 with troll decks whilst confusing the crap out of my opponent with aggro priest Leeroy Jenkins decks or whatever abominations I can come up with is fun then yes. I've been on the nerd rage side of the keyboard , so inducing those fits on my side.
Then there is wild. Seeing the standard decks there actually having to roll over cards they've never seen before....always fun.
Rank 15 is fun, make your own decks. Cool to try to counter the "meta". Played since beta and never got to legend. It's so boring farm ladder with the same deck. Also, hate mirror matches.
Making your own deck is easier and more fun than ever before. But, the tempo/Jade/priest decks don't have real hard counters like the old days.
It used to be fun to make an anti-zoo/aggro deck but it's impossible this expansion. I think with more cards like keleseth it will become more and more difficult to make you own counters better than the ones online.
Also, if blizzard doesnt support the old mechanics like joust and mechs (even quests or heros) I feel like even in wild the old cards will become useless. I really old they support these archetypes (like c'thun) or I will be forced to quit.
I imagine a future where all these cards I bought are dead in my collection. And a vast majority of them are already very difficult to use. E.g Bolf Ramshield

Invested in what? A game? So now what, you cant all of sudden stop palying it because youve invested so much time? Youre talking like youre bound to playing it.
About money - im pretty sure youve spent much more money on other things than this game already. Money comes and goes. Its made to be spent not to be hidden in your sockets inside drawer of your basement. \
Dude you had your great times with HS but now if you dont enjoy it that much there is nothing wrong to stop playing. Dont tihnk about money and time youve spent on this game like an investment for some great deal which didnt go as planned. It was investment for having fun. And thats all.

You can try to sell your account on eBay for a few 100$

The race to Rank 20 is tiring in itself...I haven't gone past 18. Plus, I made the boneheaded mistake of dusting my Naxx/GvG cards when I found out they won't be used in standard play.
Because HS is very similar to a casino game, but with no ability to get a return on your investment, new laws may force companies like Activision to buyback their products (cards) and/or provide an online market. Like Diablo.
And with new tech like block chain. Maybe blizz can create cards with actual value and limited availability. That would be sweet

If nothing else, Dungeon runs will be hella fun. Stick around for a bit more, dude.

Theres always wild. Just becuad Blizzard never promotes it doesnt mean its not fun
Just get the cards you want. Don't fall for their trap of full collecting and have fun and make your own decks
Keeper of the Grove Gone, but not forgotten.
The joy of new expansion when meta hasn't settled and its fun...after that..and another priest fucking meta and HS becomes very boring
Priest meta are very boring . Rather die in turn 4 vs a PW or aggro shaman in the past then slowly but very annoying game vs Priest

HS is so expensive now that there may be a future market for old accounts. Not quite there yet
