So I just faced five pirate warriors in a row. Seems the community has realised the deck is still top tier. I didn't mind so much as my deck was heavily teched against the deck with double swamp ooze, winning four of the five, but I can't deny the games were no fun no play. Is it time to go after patches nerf or upgrade or what? This deck is no good for the game. It's worse than face hunter ever was.
I totally called it. Everyone thought it was going to be Jade Druid everywhere, but having a 3/1 for 1 is not much worse than a 3/2. Also since the deck loses exactly nothing, I'm probably going to skip Ungoro completely because none of the cards are relevant in the turn 5 meta (judging by what they've shown us and the speculation I've heard, although I'm going to wait for the rest of the set to decide for sure, I'm currently leaning heavily on the side of skipping the next set completely)
I'm not sure people will ever get bored of such a powerful deck that offers such a fast win condition. Even if blizzard creates a low mana hard counter pirate card for the next expansion, you'll still have to hit in the mulligan and the decks winrate will still be there, crushing everyone's 'new content' experimentation dreams.
Rotation should bring a new meta, even if Pirate Warrior loses exactly nothing. At a certain point, I'm guessing people will just get bored of it.
This. Pirate Warrior is a frustrating and boring deck to play. It works and it's great for quick wins, but I have a hard time playing it for more then four or five games. Especially when you go on a losing RNG streak fest or pull Patches into your opening hand.

We've seen exactly 5 cards. Wait and see.
I'm sure there will be a Priest deck that has a chance of completing its Quest on curve.
I'm kinda confused why Pirate warrior wasn't popular before MSOG was released. STB and Patches are obnoxious and all but the rest of the deck seems to be aggressive and powerful enough without them. Am I missing something?

It was actually really good, it just was extremely easy to counter. Like it currently is, and like it will be when people regain their senses and realize it's not like Pirate Warrior died with the nerf (which I think most people thought would happen for some reason).
The 1-health thing is huge for STB in Pirate Warrior; it's still a great deck, but you have a lot more options to staunch the bleeding early and the couple I've run into have definitely felt easier to force to run out of steam.

Articles I suggest every player reads to improve at the game;
The problem is patches. Turns out summoning a 1 cost minion which summons a free 1/1 with charge on turn 1 generates a lot of tempo. I rarely criticize Blizzard or the devs, I like hearthstone and I enjoy the game and I am rarely ever salty. But I have to say surely when they tested these cards someone must have realised that Patches and the pirate package in general would provide such a strong opener that can lead to steamrolling opponents and potentially even killing them on turn 4. Small time buccaneer was obnoxious but sometimes I wonder if it would have actually been fine as a 1/2 if Patches was not printed?

The point of the nerfs wasn't to get rid of pirate warrior. It was to prevent STB + Patches from showing up in half of your ladder games. I don't mind pirate warrior at all personally, it is a fast deck, but it is also a relatively fair deck. It's not like shaman that can play aggressively, then switch to a value plan, then burn you out from 15 health. Some players like to play aggro, and aggro helps to prevent decks from getting too greedy.
Dude, I don't know what you are smoking. You've seen 5 cards out of tons and tons and tons more that you haven't seen and you are already making assumptions based on just that 5.
So people complain when they over nerf to the point where it's not playable anymore, and people complain when they nerf something and it is still playable. I guess you can't please everyone.
Sure, why not? The nerfs were against Aggro Shaman not against Pirate Warrior. Even more, with Shaman decline - Pirate Warrior is a best Standard deck atm.
STB nerf wasn't going to do much. Only one top tier deck runs an 1 AoE damage if I'm not mistaken, and that's shaman. Mage can ping, but that puts you too far behind in tempo. Warlock has Coil, but it's not like he was short of targets with that card before. I hate shaman, bur I'm hoping that change will make them good enough to squelch pirate warrior some. There's not one card that's broken by itself in Pirate Warrior. Just the combination of too many cards that can do too much immediate face damage.
I just played a pirate warrior who ignored my Mistress of Mixtures on turn one and went face with his 1-damage weapon and Patches, and still went face after it was a 2/1 after taking out Patches. He won. I hate the stupidity of this deck.
You like your deck and hate every deck you lose. Very common. But if you look at the meta without prejudices you will see that every meta deck is unbelievable stupid:
Pirate Warrior (SMOrc to the win)
Reno Warlock/Reno Mage (The game is decided by draw not by player skill, even monkey could play Reno T6)
Jade Druid/Mid/Jade Shaman (Just generate bigger and bigger golems and don't care)

Who's the Beatdown?
People play pirate warrior (or any other aggro) for one simple reason:
FAST WINS CONSISTENTLY.
It will always be fast but I'm not so sure about the "winning consistently" part now with STB nerfed.

We were in charge then, we're still in charge now! Argghh!
Or should I say, he's (Patches the Pirate) in charge. I'm just tagging along.

well of course. small time wasn't the onlu broken card, it was one of the broken cards, patches is the other one. The rest of the deck is quite fair.
