Overview
All contestants will create one custom class, following the layout of Demon Hunter.
There will be a total of 45 cards to be made.
All contestants will select one out of the three expansions for their custom class to arrive in-game: Ashes of Outland, Scholomance, and Darkmoon Faire. These are the three sets that came after the arrival of Demon Hunter.
The contest will run for 4 weeks.
Week One: 10 Basic cards.
Week Two: 10 "Initiate" cards.
Week Three: The other 10 "Initiate" cards.
Week Four: 15 expansion cards.
"Initiate" means the supplemental 20 cards Blizzard printed for Demon Hunter. Yours do not have to be named Initiate set.
Challenge
Your challenge this week pertains to your legendary minion:
If your legendary minion from Week Two costed 4 or less, your Week Three legendary minion must cost 7 or more.
If your legendary minion from Week Two costed 6 or more, your Week Three legendary minion must cost 3 or less.
If your legendary minion from Week Two costed 5 exactly, you may choose to make your Week Three legendary minion cost either 7 or more, or 3 or less!
Submission Format
You must adhere to the following rules or risk disqualification:
Unless otherwise stated, you are allowed three cards to showcase. All other cards must be hidden in a spoiler.
You may include flavour texts. For the showcase cards, their texts do not need to be spoilered.
All tokens must be in a spoiler.
You may include a single banner at the top of your submission post. It may not be overly fancy. This is entirely subjective and the moderators have the right to remove a banner they feel is too fancy and, therefore, gives an inherent advantage over other posts.
Golden cards are not allowed, nor are huge images that feature your cards with a background.
If you choose to include other images other than a banner, they must be hidden behind a spoiler.
Rules
How is the Initiate set split in half?
There are 8 commons, 6 rares, 4 epics, and 2 legionaries. That makes splitting the Initiate set in half rather easy.
For Weeks Two and Three, contestants will create 4 commons, 3 rares, 2 epics, and 1 legendary.
What expansions can I choose from?
You may select either Ashes of Outland, Scholomance Academy, or Darkmoon Faire.
Uh oh spaghettios, class cycles.
You must have at least one all-class cycle.All-class, in this context, means both a cycle shared between all 9 classes, or a cycle that the League of EVIL classes or Explorers classes share.
While, at first, it seems to make sense that your custom class should adhere to all all-class cycles in a given expansion, Demon Hunter did not have a Prime legendary, therefore you only need to use one such cycle.
To clarify, here are the all-class cycles you may choose from:
AoO: There is no cycle shared between all classes.
However, 9/10 classes have a Prime legendary and 9/10 classes have a Dormant minion.
Scholomance Academy: Dual-class cards.
Dual-class cards present a major logistics challenge. Depending on how many entries decide to choose this expansion as their starting point, the solution to this challenge will differ.
Madness at the Darkmoon Faire: One class Corrupt card (Rogue and Warrior have one, while Priest has three, all other classes have two)
What about card cycles not shared between all nine classes, like Studies spell cards, or Aspirant cards?
You may pick and choose from those.
What about Hero Cards?
I have decided to disallow Hero Cards. While I am aware Warlock came with Jaraxxus in their Classic set, I feel as though a new class receiving a massive power spike in the form of a Hero Card while other classes did not in that expansion will create an even worse problem DH did upon arrival.
Can I rename the "Initiate" set to whatever I want?
Yes.
What watermarks do I use?
For the "Initiate" set, you can use whatever watermark you think makes the most sense. There is a list of watermarks here.
Do I have to follow the rarity distribution of the Demon Hunter Initiate set?
Yes.
You may not introduce a Legendary spell, weapon, or Hero in the Initiate set as there are none in the current Demon Hunter example we've been given.
Do I need to adhere to Warcraft lore?
The short answer: no.
The long answer: Try your best to do so. Even if your Hero is not a character found in Warcraft, you can still achieve a general feel of Warcraftiness by using in-game place names and references. Put in the work and use some elbow grease. Do your research on Wowpedia.
Do I need class-exclusive keyword?
No.
Can I do a Monk or Death Knight class?
No.
Competition Process
Week 1: December 16th - December 23nd Week 2: December 24th - December 31st Week 3: January 2nd - January 9th Week 4: January 10th - January 17th
Blood magic is a form of tortured life magic that uses blood as a power source. Someone who practices blood magic is often called a blood mage. The limits of blood magic are still undefined"
The bloodmage is a class that can steal the essence of every living thing, to buff theirs servants, empower their spells and even empower themself. Once in Azeroth, the bloodmages now have escape to Outland so they can keep studying their forbidden arts.... but they will get back soon... to seek their vengeance!
Bloodmage: First Blood (Part II of II)
This second part of the set add spell combo synergy as spell damage related cards, without lose the main themes of the class: Use of Sanguinate, Lifesteal and deal damage to your own minions. Once again, the class keyword:
"All decent folk find the common rat repulsive. Harbinger of disease, it scavenges on our waste-heaps and frightens our children. How immeasurably worse then is the foul Skaven - standing on its hindlegs in foul parody of a human. Rats as tall as man, and blessed with the most vile intellect and cunning. They are the dark side of our souls, come to destroy us for our sins."
A Skaven Warlord must be more than ferocious in battle if victory is to be won. You must rely on and lead your troops, assemble your army and use every tactic and trick in the book. Nothing is too low or cowardly if we win and they lose! You've seen last phase what Clan Skryre has to offer, their infernal machines and magic. Although they lead the warpstone science research, they are not the only ones who use this precious and evil stone for atrocious experiments. Another one of the Great Clans has a power you must learn to use: the great monsters of Clan Moulder.
Preview:
Throt the Unclean, Master Mutator of Clan Moulder and this phases' iconic legendary. He takes the title "Mad Scientist" to a whole new level. With the cheap price of 3 Warpstone Shards, you too can have your own custom minion! Suited for any situation, you can have a 1/1 with Poisonous and cleave attack, you can have a 10/10 that explodes on death and has Lifesteal, with no morals and creativity, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
Moulder Packmaster is part of the "Attack Synergy" package, being the highlight of the bunch. It basically doubles the attack triggers and generates tokens every time an ally attacks.
The Flesh Laboratory welcomes anyone. We almost guarantee you'll survive too, but if you do you'll be so much better! Throt's mind gone wild, buffs the entire board with useful keywords, similarly to Enhance-o Mechano.
Throt crafting options:
Lab Rats for experimentation:
Augments (Discovers from the pool twice, like Kazakus):
Rest of the set:
Warpstone cards:
Warpstone Deposit serves both to generate potentially a lot of Warpstone Shards, but also to protect your weak minions in the early stages of the game. Just hit it and watch the beautiful magic crystals rain.
Constract Loopholes allows you to play big minions earlier, with an overall cost reduction of 2, great for jump-starting some of the synergyes of the class. Never trust a normal lawyer. Run from skaven lawyers.
Swarm Tactics:
Battle Plan guarantees you will have 2 surviving minions at the start of your turn to be buffed, though the delay can also be a negative when you need more pressure now. Sometimes the Skaven Council does agree on things, but very rarely.
Ravenous Appetite turns bad situations where you have to trade into taunts or threats into upsides, letting you make a small rat mega chonky.
Broodmother Is a solid constant threat that births small rats non stop. Just don't ask more details about the process.
Attack Synergy:
Ratling Gunner is part of the "Attack package" in this set. It can work well in token decks but especially well paired with Brood Horror and Moulder Packmaster. And yes he does scream RATATATATATA!
Brood Horror is what happens when a baby rat eats the rest of it's litter and then is engorged by Throt with warpstone and flesh magic. It's so ravenous it attacks anything on sight, takes years to train him to not munch friendly troops.
The Ethereal looked at me with its inexpressive face. "-Wondering what's in that container, are you? -You're right, I do." He then pressed some buttons in quick succession, leading the device to slowly open. "-It is time. Journeymen have been learning to harness power in... creative ways, for eons. I think it is time we get another peek."
THE TRAVELLER
JOURNEYMAN SET: PART II
There are many different ways an eager traveller can face the constant walking between timelines, dimensions, realities and worlds. Some of them like to take things slowly, while others try to finish their tasks as early as possible then move on. Some try to actively gather phenomenal cosmic powers, others trust mostly on smaller equipments. And this sort of reality is something I want to take a look this time.
This set is focused on three aspects: bolstering early game, big spells, and elemental synergy, achieved through facing many different kinds of elemental beings in the multiverse:
Token:
-Dimensional Anomaly: Not only it can be played early and bolster elemental synergies, but also can pose a considerable threat by getting itself and/or the rest of minions bigger (look at the rest of the set for more elementals).
-Navigator: One of the tools for big spells decks. Draws you a spell, and makes it so you can play it turn 6 (5 with coin), or slam it right away at 10 mana. Also synergizes with others cards in this set.
-Glimpse of Dominance: Every deck involved in big spells need strong powerplays that can act as finishers. This one easily gets you 10/10 or bigger rush and taunt minions if you can feed it a little bit.
Rest of the set:
Flavor Texts:
-Aether Portal: The Aether is a highly recommendable way of travelling through realities. Specially for insomniac travellers.
-Dimensional Anomaly: We prefer to say he is just different.
-Ethereum Stalker: Messing with the Void puts your very soul and existence in risk... and also gives you some of the most incredible looking swords imaginable.
-Disynchronization: Ezio did not kill civilians.
-Captured Aether Vortex: Don't try and help it out, Thrall! It has Durnholde Complex!
-Navigator: Because even the cosmos needs someone who understands maps.
-Quantum Trap: Until I open the trap again, we won't know if the minion is alive or dead.
-Xenedar Artificer: Rejected member of the Paladins Only Paladin Club.
-Glimpse of Dominance: YES! I AM A GOD!
-Ghyiss the Aethernal: Its secret for eternal life is plot convenience.
Hello everyone! I am here to show you the second part of the protégé set for the Innkeeper!
Showcase Cards:
Tokens:
These three tokens do need an explanation. Yes same as Choose One, when you play this card, you can choose from two form:
Banarang: summon a 1/1 Banarang, or deal 1 damage to an enemy;
Sashimur: summon a 2/2 Sashimur, or give a minion +2/+2;
Baguette: summon a 3/3 Baguette, or equip a 3/3 weapon (to trigger the latter option, you may return it to your hand, or shuffle it to your deck and draw it again).
Nobundo is a Broken Draenei, a former Vindicator who lost his connection with the Light. After discovering the power of the elements, he became a Farseer and joined prophet Velen to guide the Draenei in their exodus to Azeroth. He joins Hearthstone as the Seer, a class that likes to slow things down and plan a few steps ahead of the opponent.
New keyword
Omen is the Seer's exclusive keyword. It gives the class ways to predict future draws, which synergizes with the class' hero power and brings new ways to play the game.
Showcase cards
This second part of the set is meant to give the Seer proactive cards to close control games and set up powerful combos. I'm also exploring more Omen cards and new ways to benefit from the knowledge they provide. A few new Secrets and value cards round out the class's core identity.
Rest of the set (Part 2)

Anticipating the dangerous mission ahead of her in order to get to the bottom of the truth at Scholomance Academy, Christie enlist a new generation of Apprentices in training to help her. Before they can venture into the darkness of the Academy, she brought out her old case files in order for these newbies to familiar themselves with her work.
A quick rundown of the class's strength and weaknesses:
Things the class excel at:
Token spawning: Margaret Christie is famous for talent of training and attracting new recruits. The Hero Power as well as a high amount of cards in the class will allow them to easily hoard and spam out tokens.
Survivability: Detectives don't get to the bottom of the truth by being easily taken out. The class will have excellent, cost-efficient healing and Taunt. Just look at the Hero Power itself!
Combos: A detective strike when they have all the evidences and can make a case undoubtable. The playstyle of revealing cards and the high amount of cheap, 0 cost cards naturally benefit a combo playstyle. And the class would have the survivability to back it up.
Things the class is okay at:
Removal: Detectives don't start fight, but they finish them. The class will have good and efficient removals, but not too much of them.
Board clear: Detectives work in the shadow, but sometimes they stumble across large cases that will have profound impact on the world. Board clear of the class will be efficient, if not numerous.
Buff: The class have powerful buff, but they are very specific and are limited to the token playstyle half of the class
Burst: Detectives name get made by how rapidly and quickly they can strike their cases with accurate deductions. The class will have a decent amount of burst damage in either spells or weapons.
Card draw and generation: With a Hero Power that generate a very useful token for both the control / combo playstyle and the token playstyle, the class will back it up with a decent amount of draw options to draw into their win condition / important buffs.
Things the class is bad at:
Turn 4-6: Detectives either strike first when the criminals are still at the crime scene or they need time to gather evidences. The class have little to no active play in these mana slot. Their play in these turns are either reactive (weapon, board clear, removal) or leveraging the the token you spawned earlier to help dealing with the opponent. This translate to an inability to play a midrange deck and an extreme weakness in these turn if not played smartly and rationing out your Apprentices
Disruption effect: Since most important combo pieces you want to put in your deck needed (or heavily encouraged) to actively revealing cards in your hand to your opponent, you will be extra vulnerable to disruption effects. Your opponent will know a good time to play that Dirty Rat or Unseen Saboteur that can potentially destroy your entire combo.
Class Keywords:
What better ways for the Apprentices to learn is to look through a few of the most famous cases solves by Christie and her other students or fellow Detectives? Cases are basically reverse Secrets where you will activate a powerful spell that will last until you or your opponent can satisfy the Solve requirement. Cases are designed so that your opponent will have to quickly solve them before they snowball out of control. However, you have to play carefully or else you'll end up solving the Cases yourself and lose the advantage. Of course, if the Cases are also hurting you, you can Solve them yourself. Cases took the place of the Secret slots, which mean you can only have 5 Case with different names active. All of the Cases and their supporting cards are named after detective novels and short stories.
Showcase cards:
Arthur Holmes is one of Margaret's Christie brightest and most famous apprentice. He has the uncanny ability to reveal every single detail about a person just by taking one look at them. His effect is a Deathrattle because in this universe, he unfortunately didn't make it after the infamous counter with Professor Doyle Moriaty at Elrendar Fall since Moriaty a Worgen in this universe. He is an important activator for all the "reveal" cards that are present in this and later sets. His name is of course a reference to the famous detective Sherlock Holmes created by Arthur Conan Doyle.
Draconic Partner introduce the class's most prominent tribal synergy: Menarie synergy. And not just focus on three minion types like Warrior, the class is encouraged to run as many types as possible to get the best outcome for this cards. Other solid stand alones minions from different types will be printed in this and later sets to assist this card.
Four Little Apprentice cover the 0-Attack / 0-cost card theme covered previously as well as the class's most prominent card with Case / Solve in it. This isn't only a very potent survival tool but also gives the class's token decks some anti-board clear / recovery options. The card's name is a reference to the novel Five Little Pigs by Agatha Christie.
The rest:
Explanation:
Amalgam Sidekick is another of the class's excellent 0-cost minion as well as being an important minion to trigger the class's Menagerie synergy.
Sleuth Sidekick is a good stand alone card in the Beast minion type for the class's Menagerie deck as well as just being a decent enabler for the class's "reveal" card.
Find the Weapon! is another one of the class's "reveal" card pay off. When something isn't suspected to be a weapon, it is overlook and utilized poorly (being a worse Fireball) but when it is revealed by Detectives, its danger is recognized and we can use that knowledge for later cases.
A Revendreth Mystery is one of the spell that the wants to cheat out with Kael'thas Sunstrider or got the Spell Damage +5 with Malygos. The card not only give the class's redundancy in its combo decks (so that they can draw into these spells more frequently as well as having the edge in control match ups) it is also a powerful survival tool to assist the deck. The name is a reference to the novel A Caribbean Mystery by Agatha Christie. Revendreth is the newly-introduced land of the Vampyre in WoW.
Sign of the Four Types is one the class's premiere reason to play the Menagerie deck. Your opponent can pressure you accordingly so you cannot afford to play an Elemental and Solve this card. The name is reference to the Sherlock Holmes short story Sign of the Four.
Killing Spree is one of the class's powerful "reveal" card pay off. Its flavor is pretty obvious: A killing spree is revealed and stopped by the Detective, thus only claiming less victim.
Murloc in the Brown Suit is one of the class's Case support as well as being a solid 0-Attack minion as well as a Murloc for the Menagerie deck. The card is Discover is added to your hand and NOT in play. The name is a reference to the novel The Man the Brown Suit by Agatha Christie.

The infamous Dr. Terrible, terror of Underhall and writer of the multiple-awards educational book "Building a Better Flesh Giant" which inspired multiple generations of critter-sticthers, didn't dream about becoming a crazed "flesh artist" when he was little. He used to be inspired by gnomes to become the greatest engineer of Azeroth. So, in order to enter the famed Gearshaft University, the then Mr. Terrible thought about sawing his own legs and stitching his feet to his torso to look shorter and more like a gnome. This was his ticket to enter an engineer carreer, but when after ending it and stithing everything back in his place again, Kel'Thuzad becamen interested in his stitching achievements and brought him to Scholomance, changing forever his professional direction.
As a teacher in Scholomance, the doctor soughts to help his students pass the grade, by any means necessary. To reflect this, I created the keyword Graduate, with which the most applied students will be able to get some sweet bonuses!
Showcase Cards:
Other cards:
Tokens:
Flavor texts:
Flow Stop: "Rap music isn't allowed in the lab."
Master of Iterations: "That's what happens when you use whiles instead of fors."
Nergeld: "For a hideous creature with four arms he's quite a team player."
Aberration Father: "That' a nasty way to call your son."
Pollution: "The Stormwind Protocol document was transformed into a smokey and contaminant mass of dust."
Rebel Creation: "Never let your crazed abominations listen to punk."
Gearshaft Senior: "Still stuck at that one first grade subject."
Unforeseen Potential: "Never push a cart with dead frogs into a Saronite beam."
Replicating Abomination: "Today is the day of the Dragon."
Cards justification:
Flow Stop: Simple counter, but not OP as a 1 mana card.
Master of Iterations: Elegant minion that allows to discount cards twice in a turn. The Graduate effect makes it less frustrating if the HP hits this randomly.
Nergeld: A minion that benefits from cost reduction but also from token strategies. Can be used as a wincon.
Aberration Father: Helps reduce the cost of Nergeld or another card that appears below. The fact that it reduces the cost by (3) makes it less scary with Malygos, plus I don't really think there are a lot of face damage spells for the class to make the blue dragon viable.
Pollution: Some simple deck screw. Card draw is one of the class weaknesses so screwing your opponent's draws can even the situation.
Rebel Creation: A card that showcases that graduate can also have negative effects.
Gadget Master: The only Drone summoner this week, but I've already showed a lot of them during the last weeks. Also some Mech sinergy (mainly intended for Drones).
Gearshaft Senior: Can activate by himself a lot of graduate cards without an OP cost reduction.
Unforeseen Potential: A pretty random secret and another token creator.
Replicating Abomination: Intended as a wincon. A good target for Aberration Father.
Sydrine Duskstrider is the Riftblade, a Void Elf wielder of both steel and the dark energies of the Void. The Riftblade Basic set promotes a midrange playstyle while allowing for both faster, more up-tempo deckbuilding as well as providing tools for removal and the late-game.
The first half of the Novitiateset continues to develop the three mechanics and class traits introduced in the Riftblade's Basic Set: weapon breaking, minion positioning, and summoning directly from the deck. Not only do these mechanics get intertwined with each other, but they are also joined by a new synergy: Taunt minions.
The second half continues much of what the first half has done, but also cements 2-card combinations and even introduces Pirates into the mix, a natural fit for a very weapon-heavy class.
The Custom Class Competition is back for its seventh iteration! With the success of the previous format, it has been decided to bring it all back for another round, with a couple of minor adjustments. We are now on Week Three.
The following entries have made it into Week Three. Congratulations to all who entered!

The Detective: Apprentice's Dossiers
Anticipating the dangerous mission ahead of her in order to get to the bottom of the truth at Scholomance Academy, Christie enlist a new generation of Apprentices in training to help her.

The Doctor: Scholar Set (2nd Grade)

Gadget Master: "Dundudundudun dundundundundun dundudundudun duunduuuuun..."

Upgraded Hero Power
Sydrine Duskstrider is the Riftblade, a Void Elf wielder of both steel and the dark energies of the Void. The Riftblade Basic set promotes a midrange playstyle while allowing for both faster, more up-tempo deckbuilding as well as providing tools for removal and the late-game.
The first half of the Novitiate set continues to develop the three mechanics and class traits introduced in the Riftblade's Basic Set: weapon breaking, minion positioning, and summoning directly from the deck. Not only do these mechanics get intertwined with each other, but they are also joined by a new synergy: Taunt minions.
The second half continues much of what the first half has done, but also cements 2-card combinations and even introduces Pirates into the mix, a natural fit for a very weapon-heavy class.
