So with the amount of deck that came with the new expansion with some ridiculous draw mechanics I can't help but wonder... is The Darkness any good? I'm of course talking about the Warlock decks that draw a lot by nature but, there are other deck that draw cards quickly to get their combo pieces or for other reasons (looking at you Mecha'thun, so it just seems weird to me that a card that requires your opponent to draw cards is bad in this "draw your deck" meta. I guess playing a 4 mana, do nothing instantly card seems so bad that noone plays it.
Could it see play despite being a meme card mostly?
I don't think this card could see play. It's super bad vs. any kind of aggro and I don't think it will help vs. control since control decks with quick draws always have some kind of response (Naturalize,Shadow Word: Death, Siphon Soul etc.) Vs. those decks pressure is better than dropping 20/20 on like turn 13.
And btw. why are you afraid of Mecha'thun decks? Those are meme category, Mecha'thun can sometimes help you if you discover him by Dr. Boom, Mad Genius in fatique. Really only deck you can target with The Darkness are druid decks.
Mecha'thun decks are definitely not "meme category". They're viable and sit around tier 3 in standard. In wild, Mecha'thun druid is even better. The candles do dodge Hemet which is pretty handy, but if they get milled, you've got a dead drop (and wild Mecha'thun druid often wants to mill their own cards once they have combo). I'd love to use my golden Darkness but chances are you won't benefit from it in standard.
There are some enjoyable games to be had with the card and some combos to do but I wouldn't have it in a deck when trying to level anywhere above level 10
The two popular decks being Zoo and Even warlock don't have removal - so if you are control you might want to through it in and see how it goes for the fun factor. Combined with Augmented Ellek (spelling) it will shuffle more candles in their deck. If spiteful summoner ever becomes a thing again then maybe this is one way to counter that
I would love to see some kind of shuffle Rogue deck with cards like Augmented Elekk, Seaforium Bomber or Academic Espionage with The Dankness but I guess it's just too slow of a card to ever see play
My bad I had Druid written down but I couldn’t think of the card and cold Light is wild so unless u plan to wild try still crap dormant card taking up space on the board and it doesn’t get to attack as soon as it pops so it gets removed quickly.
With the addition of Augmented Elekk, or using other triggers to increase the number of candles (Murmuring Elemental, Shudderwock) it might increase your rate of seeing The Darkness come forth in all his glory, but because it can't charge, despite if it activates on your turn or your opponent's turn they usually have a way to remove or block an attack from Darkness. Or you're just dead before it comes to life. I had a "Dark Shaman" list with The Darkness and evolve tactics prior to Year of the Raven which was fun for the memes, but the win rate was awful. Although, this post may inspire me to revisit the idea in Wild as I just checked my tracker and the win rate was 42% (still bad, but not as bad as I thought). Maybe with some new cards from WW and BDP it could be improved (like Elekk)
The problem wwith The Darkness isn't the inability to activate it. The problem is a) short term loss of tempo and value when played and b) they can see it coming from a mile away, and will plan accordingly.

Resurrecting old thread - my first post: Been using the card in my Cube Hunter deck to interesting effect. I've found it makes some decks wary of "pulling the trigger" on board clears early on knowing that a 20/20 is on it's way. It's a more a psychological effect than anything perhaps but perhaps it serves it purpose in that way.

Yeah, single huge minions aren't such a threat anymore (see Galvadon and Lynessa). Good decks now have ways of repeatedly filling the board with huge minions.
Anyway, I ran the Darkness in taunt warrior for a year. It was fun. I definitely won and lost games by including it. I tried it in a shuffle rogue with all the other shuffle mechanics, but I just couldn't stay alive long enough for it to pay off.
The problem with this card is that it's a cost 4 mana "don't do nothing", so basically, you'll be losing a turn. You can't use it in aggro decks because would lose tempo, nor in control due the fact that you must take maximum value out of each 30 cards.
Conclusion: use it for fun, and don't expect much more than few scenarios witch rng will be at your side.

T-SERIES IS GOING DOWN
no.

Kobolds are almost as bad as goblins, they gotta die (⌐■_■)–︻╦╤─
you can try it, I'm not risking 1600 dust.
Unpopular opinion: Rogue is OP
You make a good point. I just remembered the card exist and thought maybe... But yeah I forgot about removal

3 mana 8/8>4 mana do nothing

Wait a minute the candles go In Ur opponent deck not yours so you drawing cards has nothing to do with it.
The only decks that let ur opponent draw cards is mage.
The problem apart from the inconsistency and slowness is that a 20-20 vanilla minion is not that great either.

There are cards such as Naturalize that are not Mage cards that let your opponent draw cards.

The funny part is that giggling tanks 80 damage from Darkness LUL

Hope you have more luck if you do decide to play that deck again
