This would seem to be proof that Blizzard's card designs become locked in at the wrong point. Could anyone seriously look at the previous 4 months and think this is an appropriate card right now? This timing is just as bad as Psychic Scream 4 months ago.
If Warlock not totally annihilate aggro yet, this is the card that put the final nail to their coffin. But Controlock with Rin is also very strong vs other control deck. If team5 does not want a year of warlock, maybe they already printed a busted control warrior legendary card. It cant be priest because priest had their time.
At first I thought this was a very good card. And I do still think it's quite good. But if you compare it to Dread Infernal... I know it's better as a come from behind card, but Dread Infernal already (usually) doesn't see play at one less mana.
Again, I still think it's a very solid card for coming from behind. It just means the warlock matchups will continue to take 20 minutes every time. Combine this with that new 4/5 taunt that heals you... I've always hated warlock matchups and I don't see that changing any time soon haha.
Edit: For some reason I thought Dread Infernal did 3 damage to all other targets. Turns out it's only 1. I donno what I'm talking about. Ignore me lol.
This seems like a riskier version of Twisting Nether to me.
I suppose it is a minion based board clear as opposed to a spell based board clear. But would you run this and one x Twisting Nether or just stick with 2 x Twisting Nether?
I came to the forum to say exactly this. As I had pointed out before, in the reveal schedule, I was expecting Lord Godfrey and Archmage Arugal to be the two mage legendaries this expansion. Makes me all-the-more curious who will be going to mage along with Archmage Arugal.
Seems REALLY unnecessary to me. It feels to me like they are forcing 2 class legendaries just so there'd be more expensive cards, of which half will rarely see play. This doesn't bring anything new to the meta, nor does it bring anything new or much needed to warlock, as the class already has plenty of board clears. To me, the best legendary cards are the ones which set a new win condition for you, and let you be creative in building a deck around that card.
I don't know about anybody else, but I'm glad that warlock is FINALLY getting some AoE clears. After all, they have spent the last year without any viable way of controlling the board or wiping large groups of minions...
Very strong card in a vacuum, slightly weakened Meta-wise because Warlock has so many board clears already.
Flipping that on its head though, I like when legendaries are legitimately replaceable by lower-rarity cards (Defile, Twisting Nether in this case) as it gives people a cheaper option for their deckbuilding.
In other words, it will see play, but you'll be able to make the same deck archetype (albeit perhaps slightly less optimal) without it. So everyone wins.

You thinking of the 7 mana abyssal from gadget that deals three to everything?
Yep that would be who I was thinking of haha =P. And another reason this guy is still more broken than him... Cheating out the Abyssal Enforcer with the Skull or Possessed Lackey voids the battlecry. You can perfectly control when this guy gets to use his battlecry (unfortunately for us non-warlock users). Sooo yeah. I'm not happy with this Lord Godfrey haha.

Gaps being more physical due to rotated cards.

Lord Joffrey, lol, OP

But it's a good card I guess.

Lord Godfrey: A mage in life. A rogue in death. A busted Warlock legendary in Hearthstone.
probably replaces nether in control lock
I think you were thinking about abyssal enforcer
Cool art, nice tempo card, board clear that leaves a body behind. Unoriginal tho. Hearthstone 2019 - 5 mana 10/10, deal 10 damage to everything.
"Meta defining card" lol... as if warlock needed more AoE.
Boring design.
Oh look, another board clear for warlocks, they sure didn't have enough ...
