Although I admit my sample size is small - I've only had my opponents play Bittertide Hydra about 10 times, in pretty much every case I've been able to take advantage of this card's handicap and punish the opponent for a good amount of damage by pinging the Hydra without this minion being able to make any appreciable impact - the best occasions being when lucky enough to have my opponent play their Hydra against my Shaman while I had a Volcano in my hand.
I currently don't play a deck that includes Bittertide Hydra specifically because of the beatings I've been able to give when my opponent plays it. I realize its high rating is due to the insane stats for the mana cost, and just wondered how it's been working for folks who include it in their decks? Is it worth the risk?
It's worse than Fel Reaver. Fel Reaver was slightly above average. And you can't really play cards that aren't above average in Constructed, therefore Hydra is nothing amazing.
Faced it a couple of times in Arena. Never in constructed. But every single game i faced it in Arena, my opponent lost (almost) because of it. The drawback is insane, under right circumstances. So, imo - and i can only talk for arena, and what i personally experience there. It SUCKS. Not sure where overrated come from.
Very situational card, vulnerable to board with lots of small enemy minions but can also win the game if the opponent doesn't have a good answer immediately.
One of the okay Arena that can settle the game with ease but worse in constructed.
I know you're just a meme poster, but how is an 8/8 for 5 that hurts you when you take damage worse than an 8/8 for 5 that discards your whole deck?
Let's try thinking for once. As the aggro player, you don't care about the far future because if it ever gets that far into the game, you're fucked regardless. Cards sitting in your deck are the far future. Your health pool is the immediate future. Is the card that eats resources you don't care about worse, or the card that eats resources that you do care about worse?
Raw stats are not powerful enough anymore in this game, so it definitely isn't really relevant in constructed. I'm not sure about it ever having been overrated, but I sure haven't seen it in a while. In all honesty, Team 5 could just print a vanilla 5-Mana 8/8 without a downside and no one would play it apart from Aggro-Druid. And even then, going wide is much more effective than going big.
Oh really now? Everyone, and I mean everyone would play it. I mean seriously. Flamewreathed Faceless is a 4 mana 7/7 with 2 Overload. Everyone was complaining about it. It was easily one of the best shaman cards, and it was so cheap, a common.Don't believe me? On Hearthpwn's poll on the card, 54.2% called it Meta-defining. Now that's a strong card. Now imagine Flamewreathed Faceless... without the Overload. That's a recipe for a bloody OP card. It would be nerfed instantly. At least it would be nerfed to a 7/7 or a 7/6. Aggro Druid wouldn't be the only one playing it. Every aggro deck would play it. Most midrange decks would play it. Even control might play it. (I mean seriously, who wants to lose the almost 50% chance of having a 5 mana 8/8 body on turn 5?)
Sure, no one plays Flamewreathed Faceless anymore (in constructed, in arena it's picked 60% of the time). But it's only a 6 mana 7/7. A legit 5 mana 8/8? WTF?

M8, Miracle Rogue won't even play 0 mana 8/8s because of how much better Charge is.
the hydra only works in aggro druid atm just because of the chance to highrole for example double innervate turn 1 8/8 = GG (I had it 2 times yesterday)

I lose to this card more than I win because of it. Seems really good. Obviously it is only good if your opponents are ahead.

If you already have board control why not play Frostwolf Warlord instead?
eh hydra is pretty great in hyper aggro affairs. played it in hunter for awhile, got me some wins.
It's a staple in some tier 1 Hunter decks. So no, it's not a bad card.
If the board is clear and you don't have an answer for it, it's a nasty minion.
Are any of you guys actually playing on ladder? It's in half of all hunter decks. Jesus.
In arena, ITS CRUSHING EVERYONE.
Playing since 1 June 2014.

in decks that spam the board way worse than Sea Giant.
Good top end finisher for an aggro deck I'd say.

I've seen it played in silence Priest but there are better cards for it with less risk but an 8/8 on turn 5 that's silenced? Deadly
