These three classes have the weakest classic/basic set of all the other classes. They are filled with gimmicky cards that don't see much play. As a result they have to rely on the power of the latest expansion because their own cards are complete garbage. For example, rouge got awful cards in Gadgetzan but it didn't matter because their Classic/Basic set is so strong. Meanwhile paladin got bad cards this expansion but doesn't have that many powerful Classic/Basic cards to rely on. As a result, Paladin is not that strong at the moment.
If Blizzard wants these three classes to be viable then they either have to release powerful cards each expansion or rework their classic/basic set. Blizzard has tried the first option with Shaman and look where we are now.
Yeah.. shaman's just terrible.. TERRIBLE right now?
Reading comprehension much?
He's saying that they've tried to compensate for the lack of good cards in Shaman's basic kit by giving them stuff like FwF, Tunnel Trogg, Totem Golem, Maelstrom Portal, and Old Greg (The scaly manfish) and look at how broken the class is now.
And that's coming from someone who plays almost exclusively shaman. Don't get me wrong it's supposed to be a SMOrc class (Due to having Bloodlust and all the overhead in the form of Crackle, Lightning Bolt, Lava Burst and the classic Doomhammer + Rockbiter Weapon), but it's kind of gotten ridiculous at this point.

Yeah, basically this. They are starting to do the same thing to priest now with powerful cards like Drakonid Operative and Kabal Talon Priest.
The entire basic set needs to be reworked from top to bottom. It should contain important cards so that there is actually enough room in the expansions/adventures to explore new deck styles for each class.
Yea I completely agreed, specially Priest and Paladin who both have really shit class cards and rely on overpowered new cards to be viable, and Paladin doesn't even have help from the new set so he is just unplayable.
I've been thinking about this subject for a while too. Classes like warrior, mage, and warlock never seem to fall completely from the meta as their basic and classic class cards are mostly either solid or straight up powerful. While when I look back at classes like paladin or hunter they always seem to lack utility that comes with barely playable basic and classic cards. For example, good reliable card draw or removal that doesn't come in the form of a weapon. While for hunter, they don't have any relevant card draw or barely any decent late game sustain or damage mitigation that could push for a more controlling play style.
With that said I agree we need to get the basic and classic sets looked at again. Hell, I'd even skip over an expansion if it means devoting time and resources to fix the evergreen sets.

I don't think hunter is as bad as Paladin, Priest and Shaman. Hunter has several defining themes, secrets, beasts etc and most of their cards have synergy with one another. Paladin and Priest have synergy but it's not as strong as other classes but Shaman has little to no synergy in their basic/classic set. When was the last time you've seen someone use ancestral healing? Or wind fury?
Wasn't priest good with their classic set? I mean weren't they tier 1/2 in vanilla hearthstone?
Priest Hero power is pretty good. So, can't judge the power of vanilla by the classic set alone.
But, there are a large number of stinky priest evergreen cards. Compare that with Warrior which only has 1 or 2 stinky evergreen cards, and would have less than that without the nerf to warsong commander.
The issue with priest in the classic set is their minions.
They have some great stuff but their minions are so reliant on other things going on. Lightspawn is pretty bad. Temple enforcer makes no sense when they're printing 3/4s that do the same thing. Soulpriest is ok but reliant on combo. Lightwell is useless. Cabal shadow priest is very good but very focused on the meta having those cards. Velen is a really bad classic legendary, reliant on gimmicky OTK decks.
Priest was built to be a minion focused class using their hero power that was forced into control because it had no good minions. That's why dragon priest is solid, you find your value that way without running those bad priest minions.
Consider some other classes. Druid has Druid of the claw, keeper of the grove (pre-nerf) the ancients. Hunter has highmane. Mage has mana wyrm and Apprentice. So many good minions, but nothing really for priest.

I wish Velen would be replaced with Vol'jin. He's a much better legendary and he helps fix Priest's 4 attack minion weakness.
Frothing should not be part of the Classic set ffs.
At the end of this month, many basic/classic cards will get nerfed. Every class will end up with a weak basic/classic set. Blizzard wants you to run mostly expansion cards.

If all nine classes core sets were reasonably balanced then there would be far less reason to overcompensate during expansions and adventures.
Dependable loan sharks since 1960. We sink our teeth into every deal we make.

But returning players might get confused and their heads would explode.
haha. As usual. When someone said shaman, all the salt aggro incoming without contribute to real discussion.
paladin basic is ok. Priest also ok. The paladin problem is curve stone. See secret paladin. Priest lack of card draw, need perfect hand.
