I ain't no Standard player, so I have to ask: Has Secret Mage ever been good in Standard?
It feels like it always misses the mark in Standard and adds another layer of synergy to Wild. If this is the case, what's the point of pushing secrets into Standard where they don't even stick?

It has been above average, but i don't remember it ever been a meta-defining deck.
I think they don't want secret decks to ever be tier 1 in standard simply because it feels bad as a mechanic, especially for casual players
It's also because of the fact that Mage secrets are more toxic than any other class running secrets (in standard, don't know about wild)
Other classes running secrets have (minor) disruptions that still allow you to play your cards the next turn, where as counter secrets just straight up remove the card(s) from play entirely
I wouldn't mind having secrets in standard, as long as they still allowed me to play my cards.
I can tell you dont seriously play wild. Secret mage is no where near tier 1. Post patch is miracle priest cheese ruining wild right now.
New secret draw card is garbage and kabal lackey is still superior. Secret mage doesn't have a draw issue and too much secret draw defeats the purpose of explorer, mad scientist, ancient mysteries, seer of Darkmoon, rigged faire game, etc. You end up with no secrets to draw. Also new card does not cheat mana in any way and dies very easily.
Kingsbane, pirate rogue, even shaman, quest druid are all favored and more consistent. big priest matchup is a toss up, as are reno decks (priest, mage).

Prove it with data. Your opinion is not evidence.
I watch high tier Wild streamers like Dane and Martian Buu.
I think you are incompetent but don't know it. Your entire post has outdated information like you don't know about the miniset and think it is March. I was legend in wild in May and typically am every month (not that it is worth typing this for you, yes I'm replying to a known goofus for some reason).
The 2/1 isn't even close to pushing secret mage over the top. The deck is annoying, but lackey and 0 mana 6/6s are much more offensive. The 2/1 might replace arcanologist and that's about it, but arcanologist itself is a better card in the mid-game anyway. If you've played the deck before you know that there's so much access to secret draw in the deck that piling on more becomes redundant, and you start having cards that don't draw secrets.
The deck would be everywhere even if the 2/1 wasn't printed. Super braindead to pilot, low crafting cost and games don't last long, the perfect recipe for a popular deck. Even shaman is much more ridiculous imo.

It sometimes is. Back in DMF Secret Mage was pretty competitive when they had the Rigged Faire Game and Sayge, Seer of Darkmoon draw engine alongside Uldum's Secret support. The Nathria Mini-set pushed Secret Mage in Standard into Tier 3 viability, but it quickly fell off as it was largely Spooky Mage, but worse.
Secret mage worked already extremly Good even with That thrash legendary weapon That lets you Draw 3 cards each time. thats how many years ago??
the devs are huge greedy assholes and couldnt care less. Im gonna Lmao in a year again if the kabal minion thats lets you play a Secret for 0 mana will nów also Discover it while having the same cost.
Secret-Mage is heavily played atm because it counters the new APM cheese-Priest deck that is a huge % of the wild meta. The deck is nowhere close to tier 0 and the 1-drop is meh.

The data shows the 2 decks with the new cards have a 72.9% and a 71.8% winrate.
I believe they are making some major changes to Wild format by Phase 2 of this Standard Year, so we should expect something new to Wild by late summer or early Fall I guess.

I dunno man - it plays itself & is brutally oppressive to ANY deck that dares to NOT be aggro. Every time I play, it just flick cards out there and watch my opponent suffer, mostly. Whenever I face it with any mid-range or control deck I cant play cards or spells. Instant loss, 100% of the time. Its pretty polarizing. I really hate it....and I play it myself.
It shuts any non-aggro deck right out of the game.
It is not as almighty as the OP thinks it is, but it is extremely frustrating to play against.
Quest Druid beats it 99.9% of the times. Also Kingsbane and Pirate rogue, Totem Shaman, Battlecry/Murloc shaman, Big Priest as well. There are many counters, but I fully agree its mecganics are dumb, annoying, uninteractive and oppressive.

So Wild is now permanently a Secret Mage Super-Toilet?
Secret Mage with the new 1 drop that draws at end of every turn is your new Tier 0 deck.
Great job making Wild a 1 viable deck format!
Hearthstone is now a Battlegrounds client to me.
It looks like they never consider Wild when designing new cards, hence the name.
On the other hand, they have not been shy with nerfs to wild cards, so i would expect they will resolve this soon.

they should nerf problematic secret mage cards and never print support for it afterwards.
all it does is possibly giving wild secret mage more tools and overall better options. standard secret mage will never be a thing.

So yeah, Tier 0. This is what the data shows.
Hearthstone has made an active effort to neglect and kill wild. I'm just going to accept the fact this is their goal and quit playing wild.
There are about 5 remaining wild streamers. 2 seem on the verge of quitting wild. I wonder how long the other 3 will last?
The reason secret mage is doing well is because people are abusing miracle priest. My last 10 matchups in wild 8 were vs. Miracle priest.
Won every match as secret mage. Aside from that matchup, secret mage is very beatable. Also good that something counters the current miracle cancer
That is "bronze through gold" data. That's completely useless.

You've established that you play a subpar version of the deck without the 74% winrate 1-drop.
And you say the 1-drop sucks.
So it is not difficult to imagine that you are perhaps not exactly the best player, so I can imagine that, like you say, you get beat a lot.
Here is a competent player steamrolling with the deck:

What gets to me is that they ALWAYS try to force Secret Mage in Standard but it NEVER works out, so Wild suffers because of it.
I love you Dreadsteed, I will never disenchant you!
