This explains a lot actually. Every Quest Priest I've played against has completed their quest lines with discounted cards - I think it's a bug where discounted cards count as their original mana cost as well as their discounted cost. I'm sure that'll be addressed.
Explaining how to perform an exploit -- and worse, providing a deck to accomplish it -- is a bannable offense.
This is fine. This is not an exploit, it's a bug.
An exploit is if you have to do things that are against the rules or do things within the margins of the rules that cause things to happen that are not within the rules.
This is neither. This is just an interaction between 2 cards, functioning in the way they should, which leads to 1 minor thing happening with another spell, which still functions more or less like intended and within the rules of the game.
It would be an exploit if doing this caused your opponent to disconnect and lose, or to automatically destroy your opponent, without it being meant that way, or to accidentally increase the XP gains from the match (or lower). This is just a bug that cuases your opponent to finish his quest 1 card early. It;s fine.
I'm sure Blizz will fix it when they have the next patch out. :)

It cannot be "more or less intended" for one card to count as two steps of a quest. I'm sorry, but you are just plain wrong about this.
Exploit vs. bug is not a binary state. In fact, exploits wouldn't exist without bugs. The full phrase is actually "exploit a bug," and this particular exploit allows you to win the game much more easily. It's not fine.

Oh, sure, it's not fine in the sense that it needs to be fixed. But this is perfectly fine to post about here, whereas actual harmful exploits would not be okay.
People post to ask about bugs all the time. It's a way for people to find out what they experienced is in fact a bug and that others are aware of it too (and likely that Blizz has been informed about it).

Playing Idol of Y'Shaarj after discounting it to 7 via Palm Reading counts as both steps 7 & 8 in Priest quest-line.

you're dead by turn 5, relax
Actually, you're still alive by turn 7? That's the real exploit.
How do you do it?
Very interesting... I'm guessing it works for other 8 cost spells then? I wonder if it works for minions with reduced cost as well

Or maybe thats pure intention, since every other class can finish their quests way faster.
If other classes can finish their Questline early, regardless bug or not, Priest should be able to as well.

I like that there's been a lot of discussion.
Doesn't work for 6-Cost Initiation when it has been reduced to 5.
My guess is that the game counts the minion as the 8-drop? Kind of like how Nourish would cast twice in certain circumstances.
The deck isn't the best btw: Struggling at Silver with the archetype.
And I've reported it via the Battle.net app.
