Several months ago I opened a pack with the "open the waygate" mage anti-HS quest. To date I have never touched it. When I try to imagine how it must be to be searching for cardsn every turn and stalling your opponent..basically just fall behind every match and then hope for your lucky spells to pull of the same brainless combo and win 5 turns later than your opponent would have done if he wasn't shut down by the freeze BS.
How do they do it? It's so no fun at all for your opponent and you. Maybe they miss the ability to have fun and relax. Then it might be possible to play Freeze mage I think.
totally agree, i don't have the quest card so never played this deck before but I have watched players biting their nails (or it was me actually biting my nails) every turn looking for the combo pieces. that is so stressful, in my opinion. i almost have heart attack watching these match ups.
Definitely some Epeens going on in this thread. Besides the actually mechanics of OtWG and some specific counter cards mentioned, everything here is speculative and subjective.
Using personal anecdotes - cool.
Making anecdotes fact - shit arguments.
It's a cool card. Is it broken? No. Is it counterable? Yes. Is it very RNG dependant? Maybe pending the opponent.
Can we all agree being aggressive is the most effective approach regardless of tech? It appears everyone has stated this response in some way or another. Tech cards are super affective but weaken your deck against other opponents. So as stated unless your are seeing more Exodus mages than anything else it's really not worth teching and just accepting the outcome of that match.
You'll progress quicker on ladder using this approach.
Garbage reply man, he's correctly! The deck is BS, worse than pirate warrior. Do nothing untill Rng or just the tempo of the deck when it finally ends the whole deck and win for sure...100% certain on the last cards u loose. Brainless Strategy to brainless kids
Deck has some decent tools against exodia mage. Like this morning faced one and after mage played his Coldlight Oracle, I played my own and milled her Sorcerer's Apprentice. Few turns later played Archbishop Benedictus getting like 10+ cards from his deck. Mage paniced and misplayed/milled herself Molten Reflection -> rage quit.
Other face-off against different exodia mage player I was able to have my card draw engine going on (had all those small minions drawing cards). And eventually was able to have my Raza+DK combo up quite soon and just grinded by constant push on her face (with 2xIce Block grinded out also).
Good thing against exodia is that quite of they draw cards also for you and give possibilities for yourself to mill them with Coldlight Oracle. And having such a low mana curve gives you possibility to cycle your hand fast.
yeah but I don't want to have that coldlight oracle in any of my decks because it's a card that makes you lose matches. It's one of the worst cards in Hearthstone.
Btw I think Priest is the second most annoying deck on ladder. Priest is more like "undo your opponents card" every turn. That's a little like freeze mage and might be considered anti-HS as well. Playing vs Priest feelsbadman.
Pls don't listen to this man and don't play this deck people. Pls stop playing this Priest emptyness now you know there are only losers no winners when it comes to priest.
Well, Coldlight Oracle in this specific deck is one of the key cards. It gives you possibility to mill opponent, it improves your card draw, it is cheap card to play after Raza+DK have been played, to give you possibly few more 2 damage battlecry cards... Yes if you just evaluete card in vacuum, it is not too good. But no card should be evaluated out of the context and it fits perfectly in this deck.
Rest of your reply deserves no comments, it is just babbling from butthurt player who apparently have not found out a way to deal with Priest in current meta...
Incorrect. You are very much at the mercy of a good player timing Oracle or Dirty Rat correctly. No matter how good you are, players using Tech Cards against your deck are always favoured simply due to the impact the Tech Card inclusion has in the matchup. You have not played enough Exodia Mage if you actually believe that you always have time to play around Tech Cards. Good players will always try their best to play around Tech Cards, as long as they are in a position where they can afford to.
Looks like im lucky enough getting from r15 to legend with only exodia mage xd, and DMH warrior is one of my favorite matchups xd.

I tell i'm not playing Priest(anymore) so why are you explaining me what to do with a Priest deck? Also you assume i can't beat Priest, why?
Well, I thought this thread was about how to counter exodia mage. I presented valid deck and some basis why this deck is suitable against exodia mage. Also made some based arguments on why Coldlight Oracle is good in this deck.
The only thing that you are providing here is complaining my valid post without any basis on you "claims" as well complaining priests in general (in addition to deck list that I provided, which is not originally mine, but adjusted to suit my personal experience).
So unless you have something to give for the community on related topic, I think you'd better just not to post here.
- have way to deal finishing damage same turn that you are destroying secret (Ice Block
I played earlier with Kazakus Priest and despite of having Eater of Secrets, Dirty Rat and Coldlight Oracle in my deck (some iteration even had Youthful Brewmaster) I had troubles on getting mage down fast enough, quite often actually I could have killed mage next turn when (s)he pulled out that combo-wombo.
Exodia mage can draw quite fast whole deck + freeze your board, so it is bit difficult with priest unless you have enough card draw + your Raza+DK up. With Kazakus deck I ended up sometimes having still almost half deck in as mage was going through last cards preparing on combo.
Gladly I have not faced exodia mages too often now (r5-r4), it was much more earlier this season in ranks 10-6.

Actually, it is kinda fun.Why wouldn't it be fun? Playing freeze mage was fun too. Different people like different things.
It's like Malygos Rogue or Anyfin Paladin: stall, draw cards, survive, then boom - their health drops to 0 just like that. Of course it's fun.
