Absolutely kills the card...if you think you have the time to invest in this piece of shit with regualr buffs as apposed to guldran rattle cycles you are crazy - try building a menagerie right now with regular buffs to stack your cave hydra..it is no where near fast enough...and that thing comes with a cleave.
Bottom line is a lot of these new cards, including this one, need a full rework. All the pirates that are great if you attack first, terrible if you attack second...shit design....the cannons...again attack first increase you win chance massively.....this stupid bird...also severely helped by attacking first but not quite so fundamental, still poor design IMO.
I know I sound negative but aside from the reliance on attacking first (literal coin flip) the set has some cool ideas. But make no mistake, i promise you in a couple of weeks time people will be aboslutely sick of the way it works, and this board and reddit will have no real BG discussion, just people moaning about what I have pointed out. Quote me.
Best nerf to it I can see is to change it to battlecry: copy target deathrattle. or to sink it deeper into the tiers, but that still provides the strong and probably bad for the game (considering it can't use half the minions from the tribe) beasts build.
Either make it a non-beast or make that it can't save itself it it dies before it uses its effect to gain stats that puts it above 0 health.
That means if you attack a 2 attack minion, it gives all beasts +4/+4 from Goldrin but since it has 0 HP at the moment it triggers its effect it would still die and not be at 4 health as it would be currently.

It would require a lot of cards to be changed, because it is consistent with how the buffs in Hearthstone work in general.
I still think you just remove Spawn of N'Zoth. It'd be a good change even without Macaw since it's boring to have an autopick minion like that. Should make the mid game tougher for people going for this strat.

The small dude, which gives Divine Shield, is strong as well. There are also other good Deathrattles. I came 2nd yesterday with Macaw build not even seeing Spawn till the late game, when it was too weak to buy.

Making it a battle cry actually makes it much MUCH better
I hate it, and I'd rather see Macaw just deleted. Something that would require that many hoops to go through shouldn't exist. If the bird's stats were changed to a 1/4 or 1/5, maybe, but I'm not sure I like it even then.
Simplest option is a higher tier for Macaw, and maybe that gets combined with some other tweaks.
In a practical sense, one of the big issues is that Macaw can survive after triggering the deathrattle. Perhaps the code governing the interactions could be changed, and that'd be a nice way to nerf it. Might be tricky, and might have unintended consequences, though. Nerfs through code adjustment are a risky endeavor.
Accomplishing something in the same style but a lot simpler, Macaw could become "Deathrattle: trigger a different friendly minion's deathrattle." This allows Macaw to copy DRs, but doesn't let it do so while staying alive. Even if it never attacks a second time, simply remaining a big minion on the board is one of the incredibly powerful things about a Macaw.
Another option: revise how Macaw interacts with Baron. Golden Macaw and Baron is currently a 4x effect, or both golden is a 6x effect. The fact that Macaw effectively doubles the double is a bit of a potential scaling issue. Throughout Hearthstone, sometimes the double or "trigger twice" effects stack, sometimes they don't. If Golden Macaw didn't get boosted by Baron, the effect is a lot more manageable late game.
One way to do taht might be a revision to Golden Macaw so that it can't trigger the same deathrattle twice, and only triggered the deathrattles of two different minions. This is a BERF, a mixed buff and nerf, since it'd allow some consistency if you have something like Righteous Protector or Unstable Ghoul as a 2nd Deathrattle, at the cost of no longer double-dipping a single Goldrinn.
Lastly, Macaw could become an "Overkill" effect. Having to actually kill something is a high-enough hurdle that it won't be automatic, but what's nice is that it'll have little impact on whether the Macaw lives or dies, and that was one of the things that made it unique.

You think? It means that the card can't simply be repurposed from earlygame to late - or even mid. That Macaw you used on a Spawn now can't go and copy a Goldrinn, or a midgame mechano-egg on your way up. That Macaw hit a non-golden goldrinn and now can't just copy the golden goldrinn battlecry. More importantly, it stops the deathrattle triggering multiple times per fight. Seems to address the complaints well enough.

If your Macaw is always a Goldrin or whatever you want, you can put other DR minions in your build and always have the Macaw being whatever you want.
How do you expect a 2hp minion to survive it's first strike... It would kill the card... Just nerf it's tier
I wonder if there are multiple ways to buff beasts in BGs? hm.....
No there aren't if you have ever played you will know that almost all of the stats come from Goldrin and Baron. Houndmaster is only used for giving taunt, that Druid card is literally never played in beasts and non Goldrin buffs mostly come as +5/+5 from Mama bear.
No need to, game recognize the most successful runs and builds you got in past 10-15 games or so, so if that tribe were beasts, you wont get to play with them at least for 5 games in the future (tested this on two smurfs where i mostly play bgs / might be wrong tho or just my bad rng).

Doesn't kill the card, makes it so there is some counter-play (big taunts) and you can't just blindly use it as a first attack with no consequences

Might as well have no card text at all because that is basically what you're suggesting.
Make it tier 4.
Tier 4 is the optimal tire for it. Other option is to make it a pirate

I mean if your goal is to make it so it can't come back to life after it attacks, just make its effect a deathrattle.
