This Deck has been updated with the release of League of Explorers : Beast Master
Introduction
Hello everyone ! I'm Spark, Legend player from France.
It's been awhile since I posted anything there so I decided to do a little series sharing my current Decks (up to date with TGT) with minimal but informative guides.
Here are the Decks that I'm currently using and hit Legend with :
- Midrange Hunter : Beast Master
- Midrange Paladin : Battle Master
- Control Warrior : Shield Bomb
- Tempo Shaman : Elemental Spirit
- Demonlock : Demonic Zoo
- Handlock : Giant Shield
Those are generally pretty standard lists, although there is still my little mark on it, and are all Legend viable. I'm pretty sure you can find something fitting your playstyle and taste ;)
General Strategy & Mulligan
You are not playing Face Hunter ! You should always control the early game with your cheap minions. Eaglehorn Bow and your secrets will help you keep momentum in the midgame to begin pressure the opponent's life with your Midrange minions and hero power.
Remember to always check for lethal before doing your play. If you don't have it, you should probably work towards setting it up for the next few turns as you'll then run out of steam. Else, keep fighting for board control.
Always mulligan for Webspinner, Mad Scientist and Haunted Creeper as your early plays. Keeping Knife Juggler and Ironbeak Owl is also pretty standard. Animal Companion and Eaglehorn Bow should be kept if you have The Coin or some good early already. Piloted Shredder can be kept against slower Decks like Control Warrior and Hunter's Mark is not bad to have in your starting hand against Priest.
Always throw out the rest, especially your secrets !
Match Ups
Druid is generally a favorable match up as long as they don't go into amazing Innervate plays. Always be careful of their combo, Loatheb can help preventing it.
Hunter is a tied match up, you really want to mulligan hard for early minions to gain board control and start winning the race.
Mage is a really favored match up. Unless it is Mech Mage, then you'll really need strong hand and draws to counter it. Always keep Eaglehorn Bow to fight early stuff.
Paladin is not that hard to handle but Shielded Minibot and Mysterious Challenger can be really painful sometimes.
Priest is a tied match up. You'll need to play on curve and snowball into Piloted Shredder and Savannah Highmane to put your opponent in a reactive state. Be careful about an early Northshire Cleric, Eaglehorn Bow is a must have here.
Rogue is generally a hard match up due to their early control and late game Sap, but the class is not really played anyway.
Shaman can be painful when they have perfect Lightning Storm and Hex, but your sustain damage will generally be too overwhelming for them. A strong Knife Juggler into Unleash the Hounds play should do the job to snowball the game.
Warlock is generally a favored match up. Handlock can be hard to finish if you don't plan your lethal correctly. Don't give them free Molten Giant turn unless you have a good lethal plan with Kill Command.
Warrior is really easy to handle. If you have a negative winrate against them, you are definitely playing it wrong. Control Armorsmith and Acolyte of Pain with weapon and early stuff, then they'll just take damage by controlling with their weapons. Savannah Highmane is just too good in that match up because they can't deal with it properly. Be careful about Brawl plays, Loatheb can help in that regard.
Tech Cards & Replacements
The most flexible spot is Stampeding Kodo. I often used Kezan Mystic or Harrison Jones here, those are really great Tech Cards depending on your meta.
I'm currently using it because every Deck has targets for it and it's a good Houndmaster target. Keeper of the Grove, Shade of Naxxramas, Flamewaker, Doomsayer, Armorsmith, Acolyte of Pain, Shielded Minibot or some weak Aggro minions are all great target to keep your tempo up !
Ram Wrangler is not that bad but more of a fun card. I tried it a lot and it can lead to very funny situations but is generally not reliable enough. If you really want to play it, You should cut a Houndmaster.
Stranglethorn Tiger is a simple card that I also used a lot in that spot, it's a solid beast that won't be removed right away.
Flare can be used if you really face a lot of Secret Paladin. It will also help in the Mage and Hunter match ups.
Quick Shot is a good tool to have if you find a spot for it in the Deck. King's Elekk isn't convincing enough in my opinion due to the relatively low curve and load of 2 drops already.
Explosive Trap is an easy replacement for Snake Trap. You shouldn't hesitate to tweak the trap set up according to your meta but always follow the 3 trap rules ;) 2 Freezing Trap can be used against a Midrangy meta while Explosive Trap is great against Aggro Decks.
If you don't have Dr. Boom, you should definitely craft it as soon as possible. Sylvanas Windrunner, Ragnaros the Firelord, Sea Giant, Piloted Sky Golem or one of the card mentionned above can be used while working on it.
Closing

Very nice, glad you enjoy !
Hey man, thanks a lot for the amazing support =D
Greenskin is a bit more cheesy than other choices, but will always be decent thanks the bow durability ^^
De rien, j'espère que tu continuera à apprécier mes posts =P
I would like to put in a Ragnaros the Firelord in this deck, but keep boom, what should I cut? Great post OP.
I suggest taking out Stampeding Kodo as you already have a strong 5 drop and you have the possibility to draw Kodo from web spinner
anyways.
You can add Ragnaros instead of the Kodo if you want. Ball of Spider is a really fun card but doesn't do much on board control right aways unfortunately =/
I wanna cut 1 bow and a freeze trap for 2 flares, is it good?
I think you rarely need two flares. I usually run one and that is enough to secret pally's day. I will cut the Kodo for the first flare. If you really wanted to add another flare. I guess you can cut one freezing (but i think this is a critical card that is more important than flare).
if freeze mage become more relevant then it matters on 2 or 1....2 lets you punish to some degree but less you go the board to back it it wont matter.
I would never run 2 Flare in this deck, too situational (unless you face 100% Secret Paladin xD). You can cut a Kodo for a Flare as explained in the write-up. And if you also face a lot of Freeze Mage or Hunters, adding a Kezan Mystic is also possible (cutting of one Houndmaster seems decent there).
Also I will always follow the 2 bows, 3 traps rule when playing with 2 scientists, too important for your tempo ;)
Got it, thx.
You're welcome ;)
Long time no see Spark, glad you are back.
Could you please evaluate Snake Trap vs Bear Trap as individuals?
Both are 2 mana 3/3s with Bear Trap having a little bit more value with taunt as opposed to Leokk value of Snake Trap. I value Bear Trap more personally just because most of the time it's a surprise factor, harder to play around and unexpected. What do you think?
And King's Elekk is terrible because it can reveal a secret.
Also, thanks for Stampeding Kodo advice, I almost forgot about that card since I'm running [card]Stranglethorn Tiger [/card] a lot.
Keep up the good work!
So Elekk reveals minions. Secrets are spells- can't reveal.
Hey man. I also prefer Bear Trap than Snake Trap because your opponent will rarely kill it right away (maybe people are not used to it enough atm), and it kinda acts like Explosive, your opponent can't ignore it if he wants to race you. Snake Trap is sometimes very vulnerable to AoEs when your opponent decteded it. I was initially running 2 Freezing and a Bear Trap, but was encountering more shitty minions so Snake or Explosive felt better as a third trap. I still really like it because of the annoying "should I go face or trade ?" for your opponent and I think it really comes handy with double Houndmaster.
King's Elekk doesn't reveal secrets, but I don't like it in Midrange Hunter anyway.
Kodo is doing amazing for me, I was also running Tiger a lot, both are fine as said in the write up ^^
I agree. Love the deck, and had good success with it, but I think the control warrior matchup is really bad. I think i'm 1-6 against control warriors.
Well, Warrior is honestly the easiest match up for me, maybe you are playing a bit too fast and aggressive ? You still need to respect some cards like Brawl and Death Bite in this match up. I admit that the recent inclusion of Baron Geddon in most Control Warrior is kinda annoying for the match up, but generally it's the moment to start pressuring for lethal.
Not really a fan of this change, better replace the Kodo if you really want to play the card ;)
I'm afraid there are many other posibilities ... I hope you'll practice and I wish you some more success with the Deck ;)
Maybe I need to add the draw card like King's Elekk
Hand is empty so quickly.
What do you think about it?
King's Elekk won't help much because against Control you'll rarely draw the card and the 3/2 body will get killed easily. Against Aggro, the card you'll draw won't help much gaining early board control and the 3/2 body will die to their weak minions as well. I just don't like the card in Midrange Hunter
