Heroic Ragnaros (& Majordomo) - Druid's jade deck

Consistency: Super (win rate is close to 100%)

Introduction:

Using jades against Ragnaros is not something entirely new. There are few very good jade decks, but somehow they don't get attention they deserve.

Since this boss requires OTK finisher, people made a lot of terrible Inner Fire priests. And some poor guys are keep trying to win with them despite 10+ failures, while there are jade decks, which almost never lose. I just can't understand this...

I tested variations of shaman's and druid's jade decks and they both did very well, but eventually I decided to pick the druid's deck, since I... well, felt safer with it. Shaman wasn't significantly worse or something and had almost the same win rate, but this jade druid's deck was easier and more comfortable to play with.

Why jades are good?

Unlike Inner Fire priest, who needs his champion creature to survive early turns, jades have no "lose" condition. They get bigger and bigger and eventually will overpower the boss. Once jades are big enough, there is no way to lose.

So basically you just have to defend yourself against early aggro. This boss is not the most aggressive thing you can meet in PvE, but he still can overwhelm you quite easily, if you aren't ready. However, you will be ready. Yeah, jade druid doesn't excel at defending against aggro, but with the right deck he is good enough to contest the board quite consistently against this boss.

General strategy:

So, as I said, the plan is to defend against Majordomo's minions and to grow your jade army whenever possible.

This boss has special mechanic you should be aware of. He has TEN (!!!) Molten Giants in his deck, but in order to play them he should lose at least 10 hit points (armor not included). So basically until you are ready for a burst you should keep Majordomo at 21+ health. I personally prefer at least 24 hit points because he has Flame Imps, who can deal 3 damage to him.

Once you have a board full of jades, preferably with 9+ health, you are ready for a two turns kill. Also ensure that your hero has at least 17 hit points, since both of Ragnaros' strikes may hit your face (it happened to me).

Deck composition:

This deck has the primary focus on defence, especially against 3/3 minions. Tar Creeper, Rotten Applebaum, Jade Behemoth, Swipe, Wrath, Naturalize... all these cards are very good in this encounter.

Brann Bronzebeard is great in almost any jade deck, but he especially shines here, because AI doesn't really understand how dangerous Brann Bronzebeard is. So the boss usually will spend his removal spells on higher-stat jade golems instead.

For healing this deck has Rotten Applebaum and Feral Rage.

Aya Blackpaw is not mandatory, but highly recommended, since she is the second best jade card in the game (Jade Idol obviously is the best).

Update: Nourish was nerfed today (5 mana to 6), but I am not going to rework this deck just because of this nerf. It does not hit it that much, so I think, that it is still ok to use Nourish here.

Mulligan:

Living Roots, Wrath, Tar Creeper, Jade Blossom, Naturalize.

If you have some of these, you may keep Jade Spirit or Swipe. Or even Brann Bronzebeard. Judge what to keep depending on other cards you have.

First plays of the boss are very predictable (he almost always does The Coin+Hero Power - Hero Power), so you can plan your early moves ahead.

Tactic tips:

As long as you keep the boss at 21+ health, 1/3 of his deck will be unplayable. That's basically his entire hand by the end of the battle. Unless you are going for the kill, putting him below 21 HP is a very bad idea.

Once you have the board there is nothing, that can force you to do a rush attack. Take your time, grow bigger jades, draw Feral Rages and Rotten Applebaums to heal yourself out of Rag's lethal range (17 HP). Majordomo can't do much at this point.

Don't use Feral Rages aggessively, if you have other choices. Quite often this card is better used for gaining armor than for killing.

Consistency notes:

I rated it as a "super" deck, but it isn't completely invulnerable and can lose once in a while, if you are really unlucky. Judging from my tests it loses once per 6-8 games (or something like this), which is about 80-90% win rate.

So if you had bad draws, try again and probably you will beat Ragnaros this time. If you are still losing, then read my guide again. You are probably doing something wrong.

Blacktiger's Blackrock Mountain deck collection:

Provided win rates are approximate. They are based on my tests and so partially depend on how lucky/unlucky I was during my testing. Also keep in mind, that you need a bit of experience with a deck to use it to its full potential. So first attempts usually have lower win rates, than suggested in this list.
