Heroic General Drakkisath - Warrior's recruit deck
Consistency: Super (win rate is close to 100%)
Introduction:
This boss isn't nice to people with small collections. I am usually trying to avoid creating expensive decks, but in this particular case... well, you see... if you want to beat Drakkisath with something cheap, go for those Majordomo Executus decks.
The best of them is probably mage's Majordomo Executus + Deathwing variation. It isn't bad for a mulligan-based deck, but it is not my idea and this deck can't be improved, so I don't want to reprint other people's decks with no real changes.
So, since I can't make a REALLY CHEAP deck, I instead decided to make a REALLY GOOD deck. 100% win rate on Drakkisath without cheap tricks? It doesn't look possible. Well, I didn't really expect it myself, but somehow it happened. This deck is both super-good and super-expensive.
So what is this all about?
This deck is not just a bunch of big stuff. It is much more than that.
When you go for traditional "board control"-style games, you need an ability to capture the board consistently. In this particular case with one card per turn vs two. Furthermore, Drakkisath has two Twisting Nethers, so he can reset the board. Twice. This means, that your deck should be able to do this trick three times in a single game.
Recruit is the only mechanic in the game, which is strong enough to handle this sort of challenge. Since recruitment is so strong, all its cards cost a lot of mana. But not in this battle! Warrior was the obvious choice, since he has two best Recruit cards in the game - Varian Wrynn and Woecleaver.
General strategy:
This is not simple. In order to achieve such consistency this deck should be used properly. It has cards, which put additional creatures on the board - Varian Wrynn, Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound, Woecleaver, Master Oakheart and Spiteful Summoners. These cards should be used at right moments, when you need to take over the board. Usually after Twisting Nethers or other resets. In fact, you should avoid playing them, if there is no immediate need.
You can't kill this boss quick. You have to endure through all his endless removals and AoE until the boss is out of steam, which usually takes time. So you need to use your resources wisely. This deck DOESN'T WIN by itself.
Deck composition:
Apart from key cards I mentioned earlier, this deck mostly has cards, which are able to take out at least two enemy creatures.
Tar Lord, Alley Armorsmith and Gilnean Royal Guard are your 1,2,3 for Master Oakheart. The Guard can be very strong, when played from your hand as well.
Crush is the only spell in the deck. It is needed for Spiteful Summoners and is ok by itself. I didn't add any other spells mostly because they are not good enough and also they would screw Varian Wrynn's consistency.
Update: be VERY careful about new warrior's legendary spell The Boomship. It looks very strong and matches general deck's idea, but this deck has NO draw. Once The Boomship is played, you will be on topdeck until the end of the game. If you will play it into Twisting Nether, then it probably will cost you a game.
If you have Grommash Hellscream, I think he would be ok in this deck as well, but I spent way too much dust on this deck already. Dragonhatcher probably deserves a chance too, as long as you keep dragons in your deck (replace Alley Armorsmith, if you want to use it).
Mulligan:
Mulligan for these recruitment cards - Varian Wrynn, Master Oakheart, Woecleaver, Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound and Spiteful Summoners, but DON'T play them right away (with exception of summoners).
For the first move choose a regular highstat creature or Sylvanas Windrunner who quite often can take the board for you from the start.
Onyxia and Obsidian Destroyers will bait Twisting Nether right away, if Drakkisath has it in his starting hand, which is usually good unless you have a very poor starting hand.
Tactic tips:
The WORST thing you can do is to start your game with Varian Wrynn. Once again, recruit cards should be used, if you are losing your grip on the board or when the second Twisting Nether is spent.
Don't attack with Woecleaver, if you control the board. You will probably just waste a creature and a tempo charge for nothing.
Play around two Drakkisath's Flamestrikes. Quite often it is a bad idea to choose zombies from Arch-Thief Rafaam's choice. The boss usually keeps Flamestrikes in his hand, since there are not many other target's for them.
Consistency notes:
Well, I played 10 games with this particular version and I won them all. Ok-ok, I was at 1 HP in one of these games and his Ogre Ninja missed 50/50, but it is still 100% win rate.
I understand, that not many of you have all these expensive cards, especially Varian Wrynn, who wasn't particularly popular even when he was a part of standard, but it was a fun challenge for me and I am really proud of this deck, even though it cost me a fortune.

Provided win rates are approximate. They are based on my tests and so partially depend on how lucky/unlucky I was during my testing. Also keep in mind, that you need a bit of experience with a deck to use it to its full potential. So first attempts usually have lower win rates, than suggested in this list.

works great, I had some dust so I created some "recruit" keyword cards like
Silver Vanguard - I managed to pull this out after dropping down Master Oakheart, he definitely could be better utilised as he was only able to pull that mob out as my 2 attack was in my hand, the Darkmoon Rabbit would be a good choice for 1 attack if you have it
Remornia, Living Blade might not be a bad addition if she's pulled out
Still good in 2022 April!
Baited the Twisting nethers early and won on first try. Thanks!
Still good in September 2020! Really fun deck. It took me a few tries to line up one of the core Recruit cards right after a Flamestrike. Other than that I just couldn't keep up with the General's tempo. But once I got ahead on the recruit swing after the Flamestrike, that was all she wrote.
Kel'Thuzad is crazy for this one too. Instant win.
This deck is great. I used it as a starting point as I was missing a few of the legendaries.
I found a great combo in Mojomaster Zihi followed by Brawl. This gives you 5 mana to play with and he wastes his whole hand into your brawl so you have a clear board to go face.
Very good
Thanks for the awesome deck. I had so much fun playing it that I actually have been going back just to get to play cards like Varian and Rafaam again.
Thank you! I was a bit concerned, that it is a very expensive deck, so people will not try it. I am really happy, that there are people who actually tried it, because I very like this deck myself. It is indeed super-fun.
As usual, GREAT deck, excellent strategy and explanation. It was easy. I stumbled twice but won easy 3rd try. Your decks make the Heroic runs fun.
I subbed Grommash Hellscream in for Arch-Thief Rafaam, but I had everything else needed already.
Yes, a couple of games may be needed to understand how it works. As I said this deck is not an automatic win for people, who use it for the first time. Being too aggressive is bad. Being too passive is bad as well. There is a bit of a learning curve involved.
