Heroic Atramedes - Warrior's taunt deck

Consistency: Super (win rate is close to 100%)

Introduction:

Atramedes is not a difficult boss. He has a pretty mediocre deck with Onyxia and Drakonid Crushers being the only threatening minions. Also, he isn't aggressive. Quite often he does not play anything dangerous for first 2-4 turns.

Basically, as long as you have enough weapon removals and use them right any good midrange or control deck has a chance against him. And since pretty much all weapon removals are neutral cards, class choice to some degree is just a matter of preference.

But there is still a couple of reasons why I chose Warrior over other classes, which let me to achieve almost 100% consistency.

Advantages of Warrior:

The first reason, why I decided to use Warrior is his Weapons Project card. This card was introduced in The Boomsday expansion and it is absolutely amazing against this boss. It basically negates Atramedes' special ability for whole 3 turns. He still has a 2-damage weapon, but that's nothing compared to his Dragonteeth. Besides you get some armor and the same weapon too.

The second reason is the fact, that I wanted to use taunts. Because of his special weapon this boss has at least some face damage available at any time, which means, that without powerful healing or taunts you probably will take significant amount of damage. Since Warrior has powerful taunt synergy (and is quite tanky by itself), he was a natural choice.

General strategy:

So, this is basically a variation of quest warrior and it should be played in the same way as its PvP counterparts. You will need some AoE (Warpath or Brawl) to stabilize the game around turns 6-8, then just play taunts and remove enemy weapons as needed.

An average game usually takes a while, but eventually you will be able to use one of your win conditions (a completed quest or Kel'Thuzad) to beat the boss. This deck is not the most difficult thing to handle, but as any control deck, it requires a bit of resource management, especially when it comes to control spells and to a lesser extent weapon removals.

Deck composition:

This deck mostly consists of weapon removals (Weapons Project included) and taunts. I also had to add some control tools (Execute, Dragonslayer) and AoE (Warpath, Brawl). Since all this stuff is mandatory, there is actually almost no space left for anything else. So, there are not many draw cards in this deck.

That's the reason, why having Harrison Jones is highly advised. Apart from Shield Block, he is basically your only real draw (he usually draws 5 or 6 cards). This deck wins without him, but he makes the game so much safer.

There is also Kel'Thuzad. He is so powerful in taunt based decks, that there is just no reason to pass on him, especially since Atramedes does not have many ways to remove him directly.

Mulligan:

Obviously keep Fire Plume's Heart. Apart from it you need some cheap weapon removals (Acidic Swamp Ooze, Weapons Project or Gluttonous Ooze) and AoE (Warpath or Brawl). Tar Creeper is ok to keep as well.

This boss is relatively passive in the early game, so if you are sure, that you are going to use your Hero Power on turns 2 and 3, then you may delay playing the quest until turn 3 to reduce damage from Dragonteeth, but it may screw an on-curve Tar Creeper play, so do it on your own risk. During my tests I always played the quest right away.

Tactic tips:

It is usually ok to remove an enemy Dragonteeth weapon when it reaches attack value of 3-4, but if you use Gluttonous Ooze, try to make its attack higher to get more armor from it. Don't remove his Gearblade weapon unless it is buffed.

Try to keep Execute and Dragonslayers for Onyxia and Drakonid Crushers.

Atramedes also has a legendary 10/2 taunt Magmaw. It looks like an easy target, but this deck actually has no cheap spells that kill it. In fact, if you are fighting for a board sometimes it is actually worth to take 10 face damage and kill it with Gearblade. But watch your health, in most cases it is safer to trade something into it or even to use Warpath.

Consistency notes:

This deck is yet to lose. All my 10 test games were victories, as well as few other games, which I played as a part of deck's refining.

I had a couple of games, where I was in somewhat risky position at some point, so I think it is possible to lose because of very bad luck or incorrect plays, but, in most cases, you should be able to beat Atramedes without significant risk for your hero.

Blacktiger's Blackrock Mountain deck collection:

Provided win rates are approximate. They are based on my tests and so partially depend on how lucky/unlucky I was during my testing. Also keep in mind, that you need a bit of experience with a deck to use it to its full potential. So first attempts usually have lower win rates, than suggested in this list.
