People's opinions on the art for this is blowing my mind, kind of like the blue and black dress. Personally, I see an unimpressive amateur drawing while other people really like it..
The small details in the shading, the background and the way the light falls onto the knight makes me consider it to be a great artwork. It's not as easy as it seems to draw a bunch of weird triangle-y shapes in the form of a knight!
So needless to say, many people have made it apparent that they think this feels more like an epic than a legendary. So I went and created an epic proxy using HearthCards. I removed the "The" from the title and changed it to "Glass Knight", so that it wasn't an individual (Basically, I made the name feel less legendary), and then just typed the effect up word for word. I must say, this feels quite a bit better. I know that the text is a bit large, I can't help that though :( Let me know whether you guys prefer this, or the original.
As I said, this feels a lot better. But do you agree?
Have two of these would be nice, but i like it more being a legendary.
Remember, this is actually nothing new for Hearthstone... The Black Knight is also a legendary. It's fine. This knight's story is also rather unique:
"She was originally a human paladin who, after being injured too badly to ever go back into battle, chose to have her spirit imbued into a glass golem rather than live out the rest of her years unable to defend Gilneas."
So like a Dreadnaught from Warhammer 40k. Blizz just keeps stealing shit....
They did.
Well Katie, that's what we're saying. We're saying that this doesn't feel like they used their imagination. Just retorting to "They did" doesn't make me inclined to believe you. Shit like Hagatha the Witch is also unique to Hearthstone, and she feels legendary, she has some significance. Stuff like this, doesn't.
Seems that all the cards in the expansion for Paladin are pretty boring, flavorless and doesnt have a synergy between them. I dont get it.
Thats basicaly every expansion for paladin. Why do you think the only viable Pally deck for a long time was Murloc paladin when they only had 1 class specific murloc they played the rest were neutral? Blizzard hates Paladin and gives them underpwoered cards with no synergy. Dude paladin was alive for an expansion and it's back to death with the rotation. Not a single dude synergy card.
- One Dragon card which is useless;
- One anti-aggro card that needs buff when handbuff is rotating out;
- Random rush with divine shield;
- Card draw secret with hard condition;
- Mini challenger that might work but the deck seems bad;
- Gimmick random legendary;
- A legendary that feels like an epic card;
- A buff thats a worse version than a buff thats rotating out;
- Incredibly expensive weapon that slightly buffs your board which will be long dead before turn 8 because there are no ways for pally to keep his board alive.
- A card that might keep your board alive but might be dead in your deck and it's 2 mana you don't spend on board
Historically most of the good Paladin cards were accidentaly good. With the new expansion there is not a single new archtype deck for Pally with both it's existing archtypes dying so... whats the deal Blizzard? Delete Pally for an expansion? Other classes got new interesting stuff Pally got pack fillers. Whre is the Galvadon support? Where is Bolvar support? Where is more Silver Hand support to make up for rotation? Last expansion there was some push for Divine Shield Pally and now we just got fel divine shields that ar enot meant to compliment the ones from the previous expansion.
I can rant even more but thats enough for now... I'll let the pros struggle with Pally before piling on...
Well depends on what you mean by synergy, and what you consider fun. For me Prince Liam seems like something I would try out and it has synergy with secrets but doesn't quite encourage aggro again to not make the same mistake as with Mysterious Challenger pushing aggro into OP territory.
Bellringer Sentry has synergy with secrets and the newly added secret. The rest of the cards synergise with buffs and the new buff weapon and Sound the Bells! .
Ghostly Charger & The Glass Knight seem to be really sturdy minions able to survive long enough for you to buff them and The Glass Knight has synergy with Chillblade Champion which saw play in handbuff paladin but the archetype just didn't have enough cards to form a deck so maybe now something can come about.
I'm really happy they did not just make more cards to synergise with Call to Arms because if they did I can't see that card not getting a nerf.
Blizzard doesn't "hate Paladin". Where is your evidence for that? They don't hate any of the classes. Just because you don't like the cards they made doesn't mean they hate the class.
While I agree "hate" is a strong word and most likely not true the lack of ideas Blizzard has for Pally has been evident for years. As a lot of streamers would say most of Paladin's class cards are "fair", which makes perfect sense lorewise and gamewise too, but when no other class depends on "fair" cards it gets underwhelming.
You want evidence? The strongest one there is is that Pally doesn't have a class identity!!! Is it an aggro class? If yes then why does it have so many expensive buffs? Why did they try to make said "aggro" class a handbuff class? IS Pally identity Divine Shield? Sounds right but where are the cards supporting divine shield? They are either ultra bad(Lights Sorrow) or too few to from a core. I love Bolvar but he doesn't work well. If it's aggro whats Uthers deal then? Ultra control card. Speaking of Uther, where is support for that card? Sure Blackguard is a cool card but no efficent ways of Pally to triger it. Hmm now that we speak Pally does have a lot of control cards so is it a control class? Nope, there were no legit control Pally decks for ages. So maybe it's dude paladin, yeah that must be the identity. One expansion later.... no synergy for dudes. Blizzard never sticks with their idea for Paladin and just throws random cards untill one sticks for a while. How does Liam make sense for Paladin? When has Paladin had a random generator(please don't say murloc knight.. hush)?
Another example of Paladin getting screwed is when there are similar cards in different classes. Cheap inion with a deathrattle that either activates anyway or if it activates only on your opponent's turn has a great effect, like giving you lots of armor, compared to the same minion that costs more and if it die son your opponent turn summons a 2-2... yay? Just play your hero power and your minion gets discounted so eventually it will cost 0 no matter what(Shaman), play your hero power and hope those incredibly easy to kill dudes stay on so your minion gets discounted, no guarantee it will ever be discounted for more than 1. Be expensive, have a solid body but have a great effect that possibly wins the game ala cast all battlecries you had this game or cast all cards that are from a different class than yours. You know stuff that has synergy cards in your deck and you can build a deck around that premise. On the other hand you have an expensive card with a 1-1 body that just cats on itself every spell you cast on your own minions. Does that sound equal in strenght? Only one of those loses to removal, silence, hex, polymorph, taunt etc. Also only one of those requires of you to have had minions alive, cast buffs on them and those buffs should be more than 2-3 so it ends up with decent stats. Don't get me wrong I love Lynessa but it just doesn't compare. Tess and Shudderwock are cards that create your deck, Lynessa is a card you stick in a deck that has space for her. Another example Ancestral Spirit and Desperate Stand(one is just weaker), 2 mana 2-3 draw a spell, 2 mana 3-1 draw a weapon, 1 mana draw a rush minion versus 3 mana 2-2 draw a divine shield minion, Paladin's version is just the worst with higher cost and lower stats. This trend is similar with Deathknights and Quests.
While there are other classes that suffer in each expansion, Paladin is always one of them. It shows Blizzards lack of care that the only strong decks that pop up are either based on neutral cards with support from Pally class cards or aggro decks that are stupid strong because blizzard misjudged the strenght of 1 card.
I hope you see my point now? I want to play Dude Paladin that has enough synergy to be a top tier deck(it was I know) but be interesting to play too. Give me options, give me interesting things to do with the premise. Give me a card that can make the deck. Give me an archtype that isn't as general as "aggro". Don't let great cards rot because they don't have a deck to fit in (Bolvar, Blackguard, Djinn). Handbuff Paladin was a great idea but discontinued support killed it. It seems for blizzard every Paladin qrchtype they push is Freeze Shaman. I barely remember times where Paladin was meta and the meta deck was not aggro, murloc or secret. It's almost as if Blizzard havent created a dofferent archtype for Paladin since classic(slightly exaggerating).
Ohh and I don't hate the cards per se, I hate that they don't fit. Since I had time to tinker I do like Sound the Bells, it makes my quest pally complete quests 1-2 turns earlier and it also makes Lynessa huge Is it a good card? eh.. 2 mana 1-2 is not great no matter how you look at it. We had 1 mana 1-2 so ... reverse power creep? I really want to like Paragon of Light although its really underwhelming so far and the Bellringer Sentry is cool I guess.... I like the Glass Knight because of Divine Shield, that doesnt make him a card that has a deck to fit in. It's 10 random cards and hope one is playable. Odds ar ein their favour, ofcourse out of 10 cards some will be alright.
Idk, I just about manage to get a decent deck together for the paladin (mostly a divine shield + buffing deck. Can normally flood the field with cheap 1 cost cards and then buff them up a bit.) The Glass Knight is kind of meaningless(doesn't fit my deck type)
Granted the update did ruin my deck. (Centred around Steward of Darkshire + Stand against Darkness + Blood Knight, (+bolvar if possible, alternatively, Steward + stand against darkness + Lightfused stegadon) Without the Steward & Stand against darkness its kind of useless.
Been trying to test Prince Liam (Bit gimmicky, but my deck is 1/3rd one cost cards, so I thought I'd give him a try)
Oh and on Bolvar, I find that he works quite well normally, can regularly get him to 9/7, which is pretty decent for a 5 cost card.
Oh that being said... I also regularly see my whole field get wiped out.
If the other player has a "deal *X* damage to all enemy minions"
...then I'm screwed... too many low health minions. Worst case scenario, I lose everything I have out, best case scenario, they all lose their divine shields, and now they're all pretty vulnerable
but otherwise, it normally goes well?
Finally, they made a pretty innovative and strong epic which is flexible in deck picks and pretty shadow word proof. Mis-tagged it as a legendary though.
Gotta find a way to make a deck with this, Fjola and Cobalt Guardian work, eternal self-sufficient divine shields.
