Did you even read the weapon's text?
Uhh Fools Bane + Commanding Shout anyone? That's a board clear if u have a minion, or u can fools bane, wait a turn, then Grom commanding shout? Could be good in control warrior, and if u have to bait out a Harrison, use gorehowl.
only the weapon has unlimied attacks, not the minions
arena anyone?
Fool's Bane + Violet Illusionist +Heroic Strike
Fool's Bane is a great response to cards like:
Muster for Battle
Force of Nature
Unleash the Hounds - assuming it's not comboed the same turn.
Feral Spirit - if played later game
Multiple Shaman totems
Keeping the Paladin Hero power dead - We all know that can get out of hand if they BoK it on the following turn.
Wobbling Runts - it's deathrattle
Savannah Highmane - it's deathrattle
Soul of the Forest - it's deathrattle
And others.
This Fool's Bane is not a great card but it is a great responce to those flood the board with mutiple weak minions cards. Situational at best but in those specific situations, any warrior can our armour 6-8 damage lost to kill them and potentially saved even more damage as those weakies are often later buffed hard.
This weapon is not a Brawl replacement. It compliments it. You do not want to brawl the above mentioned weakies. You'd rather Brawl for a fat ass minion filled board. The weapon clears the weakies much better. This weapin is not anti face rush though as 5 mana is much to high and slow of a cost to be useful for that.
Also Fool's Bane combos with Frothing Berserker very well when killing the above mentioned weakie minions with this weapon.
Why I don't think this will be good in standard:
1. Brawl is better in most cases if you want to wipe out a board. ( Same mana cost. Can deal with minions that have much higher health. A spell )
2. Could be too slow against aggro
3. Unlike Brawl, you have to take damage to deal damage. Sometimes you can't afford to do that.
4. Bigger minions could be a problem
5. Can't hit face. SMOrc
Why it could be good:
1. Deals 12 damage which it can do in a single turn for only 5 mana
2. Can deal well with smaller minions that don't die to Whirlwind
Other Notes:
It won't work well with Violet Illusionist because:
8 mana combo if you want to use it together in a single turn. Similar to Twisting Nether except it doesn't kill your board and doesn't guaranteed to kill theirs. If you play this before you play weapon, chances are it probably won't survive since it has 3 health. If you play Violet Illusionist after you play your weapon, why would you wait to not use your weapon (if you could), your opponent now sees it and can probably counter it by playing a big minion. You also "wasted" your turn by doing that which can lose tempo.
Tribute to Fool's Bane, an epic one-handed mace that drops from Terestian Illhoof in the Karazhan raid. Pretty cool.

Equip this and then play Violet Illusionist on the next turn and clear the board like a God.
I think the dream for that combo would be to kill Deathwing, Dragonlord and then kill of the dragons summoned by its deathrattle.
This weapon is sick. If it can get buffed somehow. Jesus
well its 3 damage vs 4 and you take a lot of damage.
Violet Illusionist
Im so gonna try to pull off this combo just for fun
Considering this is warrior, your nearly garuanteed ~30 armour by turn five anyway, so I'm not seeing any downside to face damage
30 ARMOR ON TURN FIVE? Master Cheezles, I need to know your secrets
