Dr. Boom and the 7+ Mana Alternatives
Noxious made an end of the year video discussing Dr. Boom and how other cards added in the past year just haven't been able to compete with him for a varying reasons.
Keep up the good work, Hearthpwn!
"'and if we nerf Dr Boom to the point that he's unplayble' which they don't have to do,"
This right here highlights why Blizzard's Hearthstone team suck at balancing. They simply cannot CONCEIVE the idea that a card can be nerfed without destroying it. That's why their eventual response to Grim Patron decks running roughshod over the entire damn game for half a year was to take Warsong Commander out the back and, rather than giving her a sensible nerf (like, as THOUSANDS of players suggested, making it so minions that go above 3 power lose the Charge effect meaning no more 30 damage charging Berserkers), instead opted to brutally gang-rape her until she's bleeding from every orifice (transforming her into a card that is complete and utter unplayable garbage in every possible sense).
These guys do not know their jobs. They allow Dr. Boom to be the unquestioned best 7 drop (and arguably best 7+ drop as well) in the entire goddamn game, capable of single-handedly sealing games when you're ahead and pulling off amazing comebacks when you're behind if the Boom Bot RNG favours you, because they don't want to "destroy him" and can't understand the concept of simply tweaking him down a bit so he's not the flat-out damn best any more. They give weaksauce rationalisations to cover up for their own ineptitude like "oh we don't want to upset people who are disenchanting cards to craft him" with NO grasp of the concept that a much BETTER idea would be to tone him down to a level that every damn player in the game ISN'T crafting him by default anyway, meanwhile letting him upset a whole lot MORE people by being such an OP piece of crap.
I have little to no respect for the Hearthstone design team and their attitude towards buffing and nerfing is the primary reason why (the secondary one being their apparent love affair with RNG as an easy alternative to actual balance and their pathetic justifications for that too).
Nerf him to offer more design space.
Just limiting the boom bots dmg would balance this card without killing it i think. as long as boom himself is kept in bgh range the big body itself is often easily neutralized.
Is Dr Boom as big as a threat as it was at the beginning at the year?
You mean 3 days ago?
I like Boom just the way he is. Blizzard, keep your hands off him or I am using Tinyfin in all my decks!
most of the time blizz nerfs cards its to much so i think small nerfs should be done like make him 7/6 and make the boom bots deathrattle 1-3
I agree with you. Blizz wants as few nerfs as possible, so they always err on the side of over nerfing.
Murloc Paladin is fun, but I think with the Murloc Knights, there is too much randomness involved to get consistent value out of Anyfin can happen...
just my 2 cents^^
"It's like Hogger and Illidan Stormrage are made to be balanced; but then Dr. Boom just said fuck you"
(also Ragnaros the Firelord and Rhonin which he mentions later)
Why not just makes the boom bots a death rattle?
Was just about to comment this same thing. Or even a battlecry: Add 2 Boom Bots to your hand would be fine.
Two other ideas:
1) Boom bots do between 0-3 damage.
2) Boom both explosions can hit ANY character (not just enemies)
Maybe another good way to nerf Dr. Boom would be Battlecry: At the end of your opponents turn summon two(2) Battle Bots.

actually instead of nerfing boom, buff other legendaries so it will be on par with doctor boom.
Legendaries shouldn't be such a requirement to play hearthstone and win half your games. More Boom-level legendaries will just power creep the entire game well past the basic cards.
yep I want my golden Elite Tauren Chieftain and Gelbin Mekkatorque to be Dr.5 and Dr.7
Gelbin: Discover an AWESOME invention?
no, legendaries shouldnt be require to win half the game. but they should be doing something.
take a look at antonidas, he's a balance 7 drop that produces fireball
or reno, a 6 drop that can save your ass when his condition is met.
when i mean on par with dr boom, i mean something along the line of providing the same level of stat.
like noxious suggested making illiden a 6 drop 6/6 would be fine when compare to dr. boom.
