Sooo, I am now a week more into the beginners experience and I have to say, it doesn't get better.I mean, It is still a good experience and MTGA is a good game, but progressing slows down a lot after you grabbed all the starting extras. I presently still like it more than Hearthstone, but that comes down to the game (I just like Magic and its just such a long time since I could play it). You can improve the collection quicker than I thought (mostly because of the drafts) and the quests are easily done and do not need winning (just the bonus gold and bonus cards do),
The game itself is really good and fun. The progress is okayish (although I already bought ~3000 gems to get a few more drafts than with the starter bundle) but getting a proper deck with optimal cards does take time. There are enough cheap decks, in particular aggro and tribal decks (meerfolk and vampires) which you can build fairly easy and with not a lot of resources, but as soon as it gets to the more refined and to controlish decks, you have to invest a big chunk of time or 90-180 bucks to get the necessary cards.
As far as I can say something about the meta, the general issues are the same as with hearthstone (no surprise, MTGA is a cardgame). As soon as you climb the ladder, you meet the same decks again and again. Drawing the right answers feel a little bit more problematic since you will not have all the premium removal in the beginning (most of them are epics or legendary) so it is easier to play proactive with a limited card pool. The beginner decks are better than the ones you get in Hearthstone, but they are far from competetive against more refined decks.
Besides ladder, there are apparently regular events with special rules (e.g. a mode where you choose a (self made) deck just without instants). Kind of ladder, just with restrictions in deckbuilding.
As to the crafting system: you get your wildcards by opening packs (legendary all 30 packs, epics all 6 packs). triple cards (in MTGA the fifth and more cards) go in some sort of "vault" which you cannot see, but will give you some more wildcards. I don't know, but I will hopefully see it eventually. So mostly it is drafting (which is a little bit awkward since sometimes you want to pick the epic/legendary card for your collection although it will not help you for your draft) and opening packs and hoping for the right cards. At least you get one epic (or legendary) per pack.
TL;DR: The game seems to be a real good Magic:the Gathering simulation. You make progress, but it is not easy to compete the higher you climb. All in all, all the flaws that people complain about in Hearthstone are also present in MTGA (always the same Netdecks, shitty draw, opponent has immense luck ;). Of course, the RNG on cards is omitted since the cards are afaik copies of the TCG MTG (so they have to work on paper). Nevertheless, I really think it is a good game.
But why, if MTGA is so great, do people feel the need to post about it on this site? (yes, I know it's in the right subforum, don't clap back with that noise). Would not it be better to just post on an MTGA site how great it is to be done with HS? Are you people trying to save us? Do people want a medal or something? Is there actually even an MTGA site to post on?

I do prefer MtG Arena because i played it (MtG cards in club i mean) about 20 years ago and i do have a nostalgia. It has much..much..much deeper mechanics. So the gameplay is more diverse. And i am having a lot of really joy of it.
HS is more "noob friendly" since it has a lots of RNG effects, its mechanics are simple and the matches are fast. The game is out by years now but it has so little: only 2 game modes (constructed and Arena), a terrible economic system and it's a bit too stale recently.
MTG is far more complex in terms of rules and mechanics but has little to no RNG and tons of deck manipulation effects (that highlight the player skill in decision making), it also has longer matches that may drive out some players. The game is coming out now and so it has explored so little of the true potential of MTG itself (just look at how many different format and modes there are in the physical game, on top of the number of cards avaible) but it has learned from HS' mistakes and start of with a much more "light" economic system. It also lack some polishness of the UI and other minor things.
They are two card games that target different player bases: HS is going toward a more casual one, while MTG will bring in those interested to e-sports and more competitive players. They can indeed co-exist, but HS player pool will probably shrinks in favor of MTG. Also consider than when Artifact (from Valve) will be released there will be another big competitor around, so we'll probably see another leek of players from HS to it (but we don't know yet enough about how the economy will works and how much fun will it be).
MtGA economy is a disaster. I also play physical MtG (vintage, legacy, modern and cedh) so I have no interest in spending my time on a digital version of the game where I can't even play the formats that I usually play :/ The gem per cost ratio is stupid. I spend over 1000 EUR a month improving decks and investing into older cards, I really don't feel like dropping 100 EUR for what is essentially a digital booster box when I can get a physical one for less.
MTG is a better game so by that logic MTGA is better than HS...OR it would be better if economy weren't in such shit...and it had older formats, at least modern -.-'' HS for now
I love MTG and arena is the best adaption to the paper game for digital.
MTG is leaps and bounds better than HS the Arena version is still better than HS solely cause the game mechanics are so much better even if Arena craft system is flawed. Then why am I playing more HS than MTG Arena? I actually have good decks for MTGA and one is expensive too.
SO WHY AM I STILL PLAYING MORE HS THAN MTGA?
pls somebody explain this to me. HS is like an old mistress it has enchanted me and it has got under my skin like a rancid wine oaky and fruity and while HS aint aging well it has clawed its way into my heart.
MTGA arena is better because the gameppay and mechanics are better. It also takes more decision making than hearthstone does. The one thing that hearthstone does better is visuals. Hesrthstone has flair and flavor in all of its cards while MTGA, even though it was an improvement on MTGO, is kind of bare.
If I could play my old decks from MTG, like Blue/Green Madness, or Threshhold or Black control from odyssey block, I'd prefer MTGA.. but, bc I cant it's still HS for me =)
But why, if MTGA is so great, do people feel the need to post about it on this site? (yes, I know it's in the right subforum, don't clap back with that noise). Would not it be better to just post on an MTGA site how great it is to be done with HS? Are you people trying to save us? Do people want a medal or something? Is there actually even an MTGA site to post on?
Simple answers: I wrote my impressions on the game for interested people here on the forum. And there are intereseted people here on the forum. For instance, I personally only look into threads with topics that I find actually interesting and I guess there are more people like me in that respect. Thus, I expect most people that will check this thread to be interested what other people have to say about MtGA. Secondly, as you mentioned yourself, it is explicitly a subforum for other games. And finally, why would I want tell other people who already play magic that MtGA is a great game? They most likely know it.
And I am not done with hearthstone, I am just having more fun with MtGA at present (and they are pretty different from each other).
But why do you need to write off topic questions in a thread with a topic you are apparently not interested in? Why do you read it at all? Wouldn't it be better for you just to ignore the thread instead?
I love MTG and arena is the best adaption to the paper game for digital.

Dang it
I guess it is because Hearthstone is easy to access and doesn't require constant attention (you can watch something during your opponent's turn, take a dump while playing, play on mobile devices,...).
But why, if MTGA is so great, do people feel the need to post about it on this site? (yes, I know it's in the right subforum, don't clap back with that noise). I'm a noob regarding Magic. I've never played Magic before MTGA, I've seen people play magic before so I know a little bit how the game played. I have to say, I'm really enjoying it right now.
I think what magic wins me over is the gameplay. So many mechanics in the game that makes it interesting to me. There are counter plays (instant/flash), Enchantment for buffing or value overtime, combination of colors and tribes to make different decks, assigning creatures how to defend, for a few examples.
One mechanics I really enjoy is the counter mechanics (instant/flash). I really felt rewarded for reading how my opponent played. Baiting counter spell or when to counter spell, avoiding seal away or settle the wreckage by attacking with your least valuable minions. keeping a land card for evading disinformation campaign, assigning your creatures to defend opponent's attacking creatures correctly. It feels your decision matters in winning or losing the game.
Regarding game progression, I feel very rewarded by playing the game. 1 pack for each day by clearing quest and winning 4 games. Each week you get 3 pack (1 pack for every 5 wins). So, total of 10 pack by playing and winning 4 games every day. 1 game takes around 5-10 minutes, sometimes less. I usually spend 20-30 minutes to win 4 games depends on the matchup. I'm currently f2p and have been playing for 3 weeks. Right now I have a decent dimir control deck with 2 Doom Whisperer and 3 Dream Eater and still have 2 mythic rare (legendary in HS) wild cards to spend (got 2 dream eater and 1 doom from packs).
I still love playing HS. I love the UI, animation, the feel of the game. I'm still playing it everyday to clear the quests. MTGA feel more complex and magic is still very new to me, maybe that's why I'm really enjoying it right now.
Idk anything about MTG so I cant talk about that... But about HS what I have suggested about the staleness is have a "random standard format" that changes every month. So every month they change the sets in this format. So we have a total of like isk 15 sets in HS? So every month the meta would have 4, 5 or maybe 6 random sets that would be part of this format + basic and classic ofc... that would give us metas that we have never seen before... I think that would be pretty cool...
Do you think HS would become someday more complex to include tactics like flash/instant?
No, I don't think so. Simply because it would be against the basic gameplay of hearthstone which does not allow interactions in the opponents turn that goes beyond secrets and minions with deathrattles. Hearthstone is supereasy to access. As soon as you add interactions on the opponent's turn and more complicated mechanics that are not simple in handling, it will not be a game for everyone any more. And I don't think Blitzzard wants to change that since the easy accessibility makes it so successful for casual gamers (in my opinion).
I really like Magic for now, never played it IRL, so I can't say much else since I don't know 90% of the cards in Magic, and being a noob at the game it's hard for me to play it competitively. Winning still feels very good, and losing isn't heart-breaking for me as a noob because I learn a lot just by playing. I do like the crafting system in Magic a lot more. I'm still going to play more Hearthstone until I learn Magic enough, but so far I really enjoy it.
Played this for the last week (just got my last 5 free decks)
I never played physical version of MTG and learning basics of the game.
1) It is by far more complicated than hearthstone. I don't mind complicated games, many more casual card games players will. Also, I don't think that it is actually more complex just because it has more complicated mechanics. 2) Land system is created to tilt people. Nothing is more "fun" than getting 4 lands in a row or something like that. It feels very unfair. Yes I know it is a part of risk managent, deck building, etc. But again, don't expect casuals will like it 3) Mulligan... I don't like it. I don't like it at all. I absolutely don't like it 4) FILLERS. OMG, this game has so many fillers. I'll never complain again about amount of useless cards in hearthstone expansions 5) I like colors. I actually like it more than hearthstone classes. It gives so much more options to experiment in deckbuilding 6) I also like that creatures have 2 tribes. That adds another layer to the deckbuilding 7) They gave a quite lot of free stuff at the beginning but otherwise it seems so slow comparing to hearthstone. I expect that it will be improved after going out of beta and\or do many events for free stuff. 8) Drafting system is so much cooler than in Arena. Did only one draft and enjoyed it a lot. It is a bit annoying to choose between building a deck and getting card you want for the constructed. 9) It is a weird feeling playing a card game without knowing all the cards and meta decks. I actually missed playing like that.
Overall I wouldn't say that it is better than Hearthstone. I'll definitely not spend money on it but I'll play it from time to time (I think my overall plan will be do daily quests for the draft and never buy packs)
I’m hoping I’ll like HS more once the new expansion comes out, but idk. If not I’m fine not looking back, but I’d gladly play it casually with MTGA being my more prominent card game.
