As to the eonomy, MtG:Arena is apparently much nicer to new players than I thought. Noxious did a (pretty technical) youtube video in which he explains how to best spend your gold and gems to get the best value for your card collection. It's interesting if you want to know how that all works. If you just want to know what is the best way to spend gold and gems: constructed event for 500 gold (or 95 gems).
Second best is sealed draft for 2000 gems (which is presently not available).
And then comes the "normal" draft for 5000 gold or 750 gems.
Competetive draft is apparently a negative value on average (like the special brawl in Hearthstone, I forgot the name). But yes, I can confirm that I get to my cards quicker than I expected when I started grinding.
Oh yes, and I also found out that the daily gold/cards are capped at 14 wins (then you got 5 (mostly uncommon=rare in hearthstone) cards and roughly 800 gold).

Nicer to new players, terrible to people trying to make a competitive deck. Without a solid crafting system in place you are down to the luck of the draw and trying to get the 'wild cards' to trade for the cards you want. I feel like MTGA is going to bleed you dry if you are trying to make a few top tier decks. Heard someone say that it costed them 300$ to make a digital deck that was a high tier tournament deck. However, unlike the paper cards there is very little in the way of getting your money back for that huge investment.
If you don't want to spend money you must have to focus in only one deck.
Right now I have a very solid zombie deck with x4 all rares and Mythic rares needed for that deck without spend a cent.
If you want many tournament decks you must have to spend a lot of money but I can't complain about this aspect of the game, you can play competitive without spend money but you can't have everything for free.
Honestly, the best advice that I can give you is to use your wildcards at the start to craft 1 good deck, not tier 1 because you won't have enough for that one, and then just farm farm farm
One thing in MTGA is awful, terrible awful, the rank system.
I win 8 games in a row, almost rank up, every time I win the cursed circle barely full a inch, then, I lose a single f...... game and all my hard work is gone and I back for the start of the circle.
In comparison with HS is like rank 9 need 20 stars to up to rank 8, you have 19 stars and lose a single game cost you 18 stars.
Who made this should be fired and never get a job of game developer again.

Yep, it is a bugged mess. I've lost a game, lost almost 3/4 of a circle, then won the other one, circle barely moved, but when I lost the next one it went back to 3/4 progress.
Mtga has discard mechanics and counterspells - and are extremely annoying to play againsy. That and red aggri and merfolk decks that snowball. This is all at beginner rank and its every matchup and annoying as hell.

Also this. Ever since you start up the game you'll be thrown into match making that will match you with players who are using far superior semi competitive decks while you're stuck with whatever basic deck the game provided you with.
Actually, if you look here, you can find most of the decks you are playing against (on lower ranks often with some replaced cards, but if they get their start, they might have a complete Tier 1 deck). But that is the crux of the internet and strategy card games. Of course people will play the successful decks in magic as they are doing the same in hearthstone. That will not change just because the rules of the games are more complex.
25% of my games are aggro mono red or tempo mono blue/black blue and I already know what cards to expect. But you have more possibilities to tech against that stuff. In magic there are plenty of "unfair" synergies and often one side gets completely steamrolled. But simultaneously, you can tech against almost anything. Complete Boardclear, taking specific minions or cards (enchantments) out of the game, even remove the opponent's graveyard.
TL;DR: If anyone plays magic Arena in hope of a more diverse meta, they will be eventually disappointed. It is the same as it is in Hearthstone, as it is in Gwent and as it will be in Artifact. Successful decks are played by people who wants to win. But it is easier to win with homebrews since you have more tools to work with (although you need to get them first and you can't craft them).
That said, I still have more fun with magic than with hearthstone (I just like the mechanics in magic more but that can wear off too once I played Magic for a couple of years...)
MTGA's big advantage currently over HS is it's ability to keep pumping out new limited content.
Constructed games of HS are generally much more interesting and there will be long stretches in MTGA were you feel like you are playing "Pirate Warrior" over and over.
Drafts are far, far more interesting than arenas (I don't really understand what to do even after watching maaany videos. My current results are 1-3, 1-3 and 3-3 with tons of lost gold :D but hey I don't plan to seriously play constructed MTGa so whatever)
Who I need to kill to bring Bo3 and sideboards to Hearthstone? That would be so epic... Sadly, that will never happen.

Wait wut? Are you drunk mate? If you hate one match up which is less than 10% of the meta for sure(the most popular decks in mtga are 9+%) you can counter the hell out of them as you have the tools to do it. This has to be the most bs argument in the forum that they should give you an achievement! :P

Such a mature post. :D
Yes, MTGA constructed is no less samey than Hearsthstone. 1\3 of decks I play against is that monored with risk factors or merfolks. Other 2/3 are mostly mix of (usually modified) starter decks.
As for "you can tech better in MTG than in Hearthstone". I fail to understand where it comes from. You can't tech better in Bo1. And comparing games with sideboard to games without sideboard is plain wrong. No, sure, you can heavily tech against deck A by hurting your chances against all other decks. But you can do the very same thing in Hearthstone!

It is true that your decks strategy needs still to be working and that it is impossible to tech specifically for every matchup in a Bo1.
However, I think in MtGA you can tech better in general, because there are much more viable tech options against certain strategies than in hearthstone and you can apply them much easier. For example, When I met a lot of aggro (mono red in particular), I used more lifegain tokens in my selesnaya token deck which helped me to buy the time to get my strategy running before they could burn me out. Or any minion based deck can just splash white to get a cheap exile card (convoke). Whether it makes sense or not for the specific deck is another question, but In hearthstone this is not as easy than in MtGA (e.g. Druid cannot tech in a Brawl ).
So yesterday I tried the MTGA. For your information, I played Magic like for ten years during 1996-2005 and MTG Online in 2006-2010.
The play is OK, although I really disliked the fonts used on cards, they look awful. The whole cards look much, much worse then Hearthstone card.
I expected the game to be generous giving you a lot to start with (at least that was my feeling from the comments) but after tutorial I got 5 decks but no boosters/packs. I was really shocked. I was able to buy 1 (one) pack for gold, but I had to choose from I think 5 expansions and I do not know which one will go away from standard. Also, the packs were not 15 cards like MTG boosters are.
All cards except rare revealed immediately, unlike in HS (which takes a lot of excitement off).
Missing dusting system is a big minus for me.
Pros: - It is Magic - Gameplay is OK, slightly better then MTGOnline - Lot of cards Cons: - Ugly cards - Nothing to do during opponents turns - No emotes - Very bad economy - No card carfting except one time to use wildcards - Only PC client, no mobile support
HS only because MTGA doesn't have a mobile client yet.
Problem is that MTGA will never, never have a mobile client. HS is designed to have only max. 14 permanents with not that much texts on it - two rows of max. 7 minions each. In MTG you can have 10 different kind of lands (basic, dual, special etc.), tens of creatures, artifacts, enchantments, planeswalkers in the same time. For both opponents. You cannot reasonably fit that to mobile screen.

MTGA uninstalled, will play Hearthstone
Not trying to cnvince you to keep playing magic, but the generosity in the beginning stretches over the first week. You get every day another two coloured deck and after five (or maybe 7) days the missing ones so that you have a deck of each double colour. Still, it is not much in view of competetivness, but it is good enough for a start.
And just for the sake of completeness: Standad just rotated. So all card packs are available until autumn 2019. Ravnica will stay until autumn 2020.

Low ranks are very 'same-ish' in the matches. Think it's because of the starter decks making up the latter part of the collection for most players.
Surpise surprise, peole are netdecking in Magic.
