Nice try blizzard, making me do 3 fucking merc bounties before I can get to the next quest for a less odious game mode. But nope, not even free stuff can make me play that tedious pile of shit.
I legit just played the 1st bounty 3 times to progress the Legendary quest. I despise Mercenaries so I figured that would be the quickest way to get it over with.
I just deleted that quest. I was thinking first to just playi it through, but than i figured its just to painful to play mercenaries and battlegrounds. And the rewards are shit anyway. These game modes basicly just dont exist for me, when i log in to HS.
I used to play a little arena and tavern brawl until some years ago and gave it up for a long time now.
@Talenelat Different reasons. For some it is too slow to aquire good/enough heroes, for others too tedious to get the coins you want/enough coins at all. For most, though, it is that big issue of having a hero maxed out and you still get coins for them you can't use at all.
It is a very grindy mode that does make fun imo. But if you invest in it you reach a certain threshold very fast. From then on you can have literally useless packs/bounties, since there is no dust system or similar. If you aren't playing excessively or buy many packs it takes a lot of time to reach that point though.
@3nnu1 Makes no sense to me to hurt yourself out of "despise", but do what you want, mate.
Mercenaries at its core is a really goddamn fun game. The only things currently making it suck are the dumb things like excess coins, but otherwise the gameplay is insanely fun so don't knock it if you havent actually tried it

Is there a quest after the Mercenaries ones and what does it give?
The entire questline (I forget the order) is: -Play 1 Brawl -Complete 3 bounties (mercenaries). Reward is Vanndar in Mercenaries -Play 2 ranked standard -Play 1 Battlegrounds. Reward is a Vanndar portrait for Battlegrounds -Play 3 Duels

Yep, even in order, I believe. Also, there are three Tavish portraits for regular games in this questline.
I got all the skins, but honestly it's not too big of a deal to dump the quest instead of playing Mercs. Time is a valuable thing even in small amounts. I'd argue the first Tavish skin is the best one anyway. Don't feel pressured to dance for skins you don't want or will never use. If you do want them, they are easy to get, but you gotta dance. Some enjoy the dance, to each their own.
Also if they ever add a 'Random Hero Skin' feature, having junk skins you don't want could spoil your cycle!

You have to play A LOT to run into the excess coins issue. It's a really... psychological problem honestly. Commons in regular hearthstone packs are worth about as much as excess coins, but because you get that little 5 dust, psychologically you're like "well at least I got something." when it's worth 1/20th of a rare card or 1/800th of a legendary.
I tried the mode a little. Didn't seem at all fun to me.
My thought was that 2 high level players playing with all the goods could probably tell you with 80% accuracy who was going to win before the match even started. I could be totally wrong on that, but it just felt like a glorified version of tic tac toe where other than a little RNG there wasn't going to be much point in playing as the outcome was basically a foregone conclusion assuming neither player was playing poorly.

Never really tried Mercenaries much but from what little I played it seems like it could be a fun mode why so many people hate it?

Uh, it really doesn't take much effort to do three basic barrens bounties. This just seems like spite to me over nothing.
Exactly. It takes all of 10 minutes to complete. Some people just enjoying being angry, I guess.

It was quicker and less tedious to do 3 bounties than it was to slog through the one battlegrounds.

I tried it, it's not enjoyable at all for me.

@ Talenelat You answered your own question.
Lol. I was more frustrated about them trying to force me to play Tavern brawl or Duels.
I wish the packs screen had a trashcan icon I could drag the 2 "free Merc packs" to.

It is shocking they have not yet implemented some system of exchange for useless coins. Just goes to show how lazy and greedy they are.
