Yep totally agree with you and i expect this topic will be talked a lot in the coming months.
The argument that mercenaries is like a different game than Hearthstone is not valid to me. Of course there are players who are happy to play only one game mode but i think for most of us, we like to touch to everything depending on our mood. The whole point of mercenaries is to bring more variety in Hearthstone so that being bored by our favourite mode doesn't make us uninstall the game.
So i expect a massive uproar from the community because this business model is not acceptable. I like Hearthstone but i'm not going to waste an absurd amount of money in it just to enjoy the game the way i do, in other words being a competitive player.

No. Just no. It is not the point of mercenaries. Mercenaries (and battlegrounds) are different games that could easily have different clients but it is way more convenient to reuse existing clients. I see Mercenaries as what it is - a completely different game. Yes, it stinks that they make me choose - spend F2P resources on this or on that but I understand their business model and it is a great idea for them.
What I am curious about - how easy\hard it will be competitive in Mercenaries comparing to Battlegrounds. Battlegrounds is FREE if you have no interest in regular Hearthstone. You can play zero constructed games, reroll quests to one that can be completed in battlegrounds and easily have everything you need to compete (2K gold)
I play Hearthstone online. Magic in-person. I can't afford a third collectible card game. Best of luck to anyone who wants to go all-out in this new and apparently expensive game.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Dependable loan sharks since 1960. We sink our teeth into every deal we make.
New content is new content, I'm happy to see it. Pre-ordering seems like a daft idea, the game isn't out yet. I thought duels would be fun prior to launch (based on enjoying dungeon runs) but that wasn't the case.
I don't understand people being dramatic about it, just wait and see how it plays.
I think they missed the mark with Mercenaries by not tying them in to constructed in any way. It's like they created a competition within itself, so which bundle a player will spend their money on now? It may be a win-win scenario because maybe it doesn't matter as long as the money is flowing somewhere but Mercenaries could flop because of that.
I also agree with comments to fix and modernise the client first; it's buggy as hell and they are putting more stuff into it. Madness.
Hearthstone needs a smooth timeline restart. Send us back to public release. in 2014. Start all over. We would lose everything yes, but (blizzard won't do this.. but) refund everyone for everything they've ever bought, and of course give them the choice of their country's currency or in game gold/dust. Everyone would of course choose real money but y'know, just incase.
Do you remember when Hearthstone first was released? We would scramble to buy cards. I knew people who would buy packs every loss they had. Adventures every couple months. Some of which were even free. Yes,.. free! Now if you possess any kind of compulsiveness, which if you play WoW or any MMMORPG you most likely do, and you miss a month... Actually, If your someone who just likes to stay caught up. YOU CAN'T! Well, if your wealthy, have no job, and don't know what "having bills" feel like you can. I mean every month its twenty to eighty or more. And now? 120+ if you want the bundles (3 I believe), each containing a specific diamond card. Blizzard, did you not think this was not going to become public? as adults we may grasp responsibility, but what if we aren't? How many will.. Ok, I won't finish that so I am not the bad guy by putting ideas into kids heads. STOP. Just let us take a breath. Plus, not to mention the marketing You have to ask if it's "moral". Everywhere you look it's FTP (Free to play)?? Is it? Or just a way to rope in the people who are always looking at their phones? Sure this may get deleted. I find it more therapeutic then informative. But I do feel that we as hearthstone players deserve a break. This Rewards track, ever-growing diamond cards, xp instead of gold, expansion after expansion. 7 years I have played and I am not sure I can anymore. I promise you I will not be the only one.
>xp instead of gold
And... that xp gains you more gold than you ever got under the old system.
Diamond cards are cosmetic, and the only thing you can pay for on the Rewards Track are cosmetics (and some extra gold from increased xp).
I buy the mega bundle each xpac, but it only gives me about 6 or 7 legendaries total. By the time I get to the end of the xpac, I have 80-90% of the legs. I actually had to stop buying packs last xpac because I got all the legs, so I went back and crafted my way to the bigglesworth coin.
The game is far more generous than it has ever been before.
I've been doing every daily/weekly and bought all the expansions pre-launch. I have to ask, how do you get 20k in dust? your not the only one. I believe you, I just am floored by it. Maybe just bad luck on my part and the quick spending on those hard-to-get legendries.... still 20k? Why save so much, do you collect interest on it? :)
I also had 20k dust accumulated a couple of weeks ago (then crafted a couple of cards for wild). I'd say that if you buy both pre-launch bundles it's not that hard to accumulate dust with the current rate of nerfs. The trick is to not disenchant any duplicates and cash in on free dust after a card gets nerfed. For example I had 28 copies of Gibberling, including a golden one, 20+ of First Day of School (again with the golden one), these two alone netted me more than 2500 dust. These plus some golden epics I had (Flesh Giant for example) helped me collect more than 7-8k dust just from the last 2 months of nerfs

Honestly, it's not even too hard to do it without the bundles right now. Like you said, though, the number one thing people screw up is dusting everything when they don't need to.
That said, playing arena is the best way to build a collection f2p, but a lot of people are still super against that.

Why wouln't they be upset though ? The best way to build your collection is to play a mode where your collection doesn't matter
Anyone who plays arena is miles ahead of anyone who doesn't, in terms of cards and resources, it's just unfair, always has been, always will be
Bothers me you can't use your normal collection/card packs. It's like another cash grab for players who already have most of the cards
On a side note the visuals looked horrible compared to other games like this.
Well they made it easy now, just save 1600 dust on Demond seed, gg. No need to spend a cent
An idea :
How about fixing the client first before adding new stuff to it? Everything is buggy, can't mulligan, can't open the achievements.
Nobody will listen to this desperate voice but Ive had enough
They are taking nothing away from the regular Hearthstone. Yes, it may be a bad option and not worth it, but who cares?
I mean it literally took 10 seconds to read so it shouldn't have been that hard for ya?

I do not understand. It is a new game mode. It is free and optional. What are the complaints about?
just preorder and shut up
i think they at least nailed it with the new name , MERCENARIES
