I suppose dust value is relatively similar (haven't made the math)
If we compare Diamond 5 now with rank 5 before the dust now is around 10% more. The grind to D5 now however is 500% more. And if we include a dust per minute metric the system now is worse for those that value their time.
But as I wrote their main goal was to make a FUN system. My personal opinion is they failed at it.

500%? Where did you get that number from? I haven't gotten all the way to Dia 5 yet, but it seems fairly close to getting to rank 5 before it used to be for players who finished fairly high last season at least. Grinding from scratch with no bonus stars is a different issue. I suspect many will give up that before even trying.

You get packs from playing the ladder now, so, as some one who usually won't push past rank 8-5, I have already outvalued the old system at gold 1 and I get a single epic or a gold rare from any of my packs this month, I have out valued it by a lot and getting rewards even if they are smaller rewards feels a lot better for me than the old system and opening the chest at the end of the month will be something to look forward to instead of just getting few hundred dust, so for me it made playing ladder more rewarding and fun.
you might be right, i need another month to retry lol. i still have a x2 bonus in legend, showing over the legend rank, weird.
You were high legend then? What was your legend rank?
You're going to get a multiplier until you return to the rank you finished the previous season in - regardless of what that was. It's just a little difficult to decipher what that is with the change over - it'll be clear next month.
Don't forget some of these rewards you get now are first time only rewards and won't be given to you again. But if you never finish rank 5 the new system is definitely better rewards wise for you.
Ok, well....adding my bit to help decipher how this is working out in practice. Rank 4 in standard last month, 9 stars given. I took the cheap-ass mech paladin I put a little dust into that I mentioned earlier, since I want something to mess around with but don't want to go all-in on a deck with demon hunter and the new expo so close. Besides, like I mentioned in that thread, obviously I could still learn from it. So, I've stuck with it for now.
First few matches, absolutely swinging. Something like 6 wins in a row, crazy-fast climb. I figured the system would realise I wasn't the kind of player it wants to protect, but somehow I got away with it for quite a while, even despite how aggro decks sometimes just fizzle out and leave you with nothing. Maybe I just got lucky. I figured I would be dead meat when the system finally woke up and realised, but for the later part of the day, the win rate levelled out and I parked it for the day on....Plat 5 I think. *2 remaining.
Today started almost immediately badly. To be fair, I choked at least one game, taking a trade to be 'safe' and therefore didn't get lethal damage later. Even so, I spent a chunk of the day on an equally huge loss-streak. The legend backs kept showing up, the galakrond and control decks kept turning out, and I got exactly what you expect cheap-ass aggro decks get when they face their counters in skilled hands. :P
Eventually it did let up and I ground the rest of the way out to Diamond 10 and out of the bonus pool, but daymnnn it was ugly. I read up a little on matchmaking in general yesterday and bumped into something called 'ELO Hell', I'm guessing 2x bonus might be our version of it. In theory, you are 'protected' by your bonus pool (as per the reddit thread) but at 2x, that protection is a lot slimmer. At 5x, you only need to win 20% to keep advancing - at 2x, you need 33% or you're going nowhere. You're still expected to gain, but it can very much hurt if you're in over your head. (I'm sure I've got the %'s wrong, but I'm still burned out from the matches earlier) It's possible I'm full of crap, and next season will be totally different, mind. I did say I expected I was overdue for a fall, and sure enough it was delivered presumably when I was over-MMRed (but because they hide the numbers we'll never know -_- ). However, the 2x stage was ugly and the rest relatively easy, and I think that will remain true over time.
In theory, I'm out of bonus now, so I SHOULD, if the reddit post is right, now be matching on rank and not MMR (though it claims 'generally'....how comforting -_- ). I only played one match at diamond 10, a dragon hunter that I got somewhat lucky with - he had a phase stalker out, fired the hero power and didn't get an extra secret with one already in play. Huh. Kinda unusual. Well, since it wasn't explosive or freezing, I exploited my 'good luck' and beat his face in for it. Luck I could've done with getting out of plat! :D Maybe a sign rank pool will be more lenient than MMR pool, but I'm burned out for a little while, so we'll see later. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what other people are getting, though.
as someone who usually finished between rank 5 and rank 3 it feels pretty rewarding to blow through the bronze silver and gold ranks on huge winstreak multipliers. i have not yet reached Dia10 (=old rank 5), but i only played like 10 games so far and i'm already plat. loosing 1 star while gaining anything from 4 to 16+ stars per win feels great and takes away a lot of the ladder anxiety.
also as someone who used the monthly golden epic as dust, i think i will get more dust through the new reward system, if i just play like usual and aim for rank 5 (dia10), which is nice.
another plus: with the new mmr based match making, if i dont play for a month, i don't have to feel bad crushing rank 12 players with fast ladder aggro decks until i get back to my desired rank

But your personal opinion is just you talking about co-op play and conceding rather than just playing. Everyone told you your analysis was bad but you keep coming to every rank system topic and bringing it up. Stop overthinking and just play the game.
you keep coming to every rank system topic and bringing it up
Yes, it's all bound together. The problems are related.
It's like a car missing some parts and thus at times accelerating extremely or completely stopping. Then I appear and start explain to different folks that own such car model what is causing their problem, as well as I inform the manufacturer what needs to be changed. Don't you agree this is what has to be done?

I’m glad you used a car analogy because now I can point out you’re acting like a shady mechanic trying to tell the car owner there’s all kinds of things wrong with their car when they just need to put some air in the tires. You’re making problems where there aren’t any and you seem to think jumping into every thread trying to sound smart and whining about nonexistent problems on a forum blizzard doesn’t care about will change something.
Many people understood the problems I mentioned. Are they shady mechanics too?
Mate, I get it: you just wanted everybody to follow you on your concede exploit. For this to work you had to get a lot of players on board so you came up with this: A flawed ranking system (which mind you, no players had ever tried before). But hey, you are the smart guy you knew that it was flawed just by reading about the rules and MMR mechanism (which NOBODY except apparently YOU and Blizz knows). No need to mention that Blizz has tested the system for months before implementing it cause this is something you want to ignore as it doesn't serve your purpose. So please, spare us the complaints...and give up already...no one is going to use this concede exploit cause it's bs.

I have no idea what's going on with this ranking. Sometimes I get 5 stars and skip levels, but they don't even show the levels I'm skipping. Sometimes 4 stars. Sometimes 3 stars. Sometimes 6 or more? With bonus x2?? AND x3??? At the same time?? WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?????!

Every time you go through a rank floor (every 5 levels) you lose a bonus star... so for instance I started at 9 or 8 stars (can't quite remember) now at diamond 8 I'm down to only 1 star... whenever I streak I get x2 including x2 for my bonus. So when I started once got 16 stars for a win. I've heard if you streak long enough you get x3, but i haven't experienced that. When you have bonus stars you play people based on your MMR, which apparently I've been padding by playing off meta decks so I got a lot of streaks (not intentional) Then when you hit your 1 star area you go against your rank until you hit legendary, then it's a combo of rank and MMR (it may always be a combo of rank and mmr at 1 star too, ie it tries to match you up at your rank with your closest mmr when at 1 star) rank doesn't matter when you have multiple stars. This system actually insures that new players are way more likely to play against a similar skill level, and that more experienced and skilled players if they play any amount will all eventually hit their 1 star area. 10 diamond is similar to rank 5 so it makes sense that that is where I reach my 1 star as I consistently hit rank 3 if I played at all in the old system with no grinding.

I finished top 200 in march, i am not a tryharder
Some fast basic calcs for the average of most ranks. The point is - before was way faster for those aiming rank 5 specifically.
