you might be right, i need another month to retry lol. i still have a x2 bonus in legend, showing over the legend rank, weird.
What lessthan3 said. I'm guessing you got some pretty lucky winstreaks to get there that fast, but for anyone with less than the 11 times multiplier it's going to be significantly more difficult for them to achieve legend than you did, relatively speaking.
I really like the new system, it’s way less frustrating than the previous one.
I played ~3 hours tonight and then ~2 today and hit diamond 5. To compare: before I was a casual “rank 5 is enough” player, and it would take me much more time, effort and nerves to reach rank 5. There were a couple of months when I would still end up at ranks 6-7.
Luckily, last month I climbed to rank 3, and then fell back to rank 5 because I’m really fed up with the meta and played off-meta meme’ish decks. Yet I got x10 multiplier and my climbing was really fast and smooth. Also, I dunno if the new system is the case, but while climbing, I faced a broader variety of decks: not only dragon hunters, embiggen/token druids or gala rogues, as it used to be, but also (to mention just a few) a couple of control-burgle priests, bomb/control warriors, overload and gala shamans, elemental mage. So climbing was fun because even though I lost quite a lot of matches, at least 50% of them were interesting and not predetermined.
So, overall, I’m really happy, maybe I’ll even try to reach legend this month, since the meta will be fresh. The new reward system is also rather generous and motivating. Maybe it’s just the first month and things will be different, but so far I’m really positive about this change.
I see a lot positivism around the new bonus star rank system. I personally find it downright awful.
It *is* very good if you consistently play and go to the equivalent of at least Rank 5 in the old system. But if you don't play for a while, you get severely penalized. Imagine climbing back up from Bronze with no star bonus. I would take ages.
The rewards help fill out your collection I guess. I much preferred getting golden cards however, as those are more difficult to obtain.
The only people I can see this system benefit is the consistent Rank 5+ players. Anyone else is in for a rough time.
(Was R7 wild previously, was provided an x7 bonus. Now at Plat 10 with x2. Not looking forward to getting higher.)
Don't you still get 4 stars with a winstreak? I haven't tried playing ranked yet, but that's how I understood it.
I'd at least ty to get as high as possible while I still have a bonus. I mean, 15 stars is still quite a bit, but it's less than what you had between 10 and 5 before, and with the bonus, it's not THAT much.
Even getting to a new peak is not that bad. In your case, your bonus would run out on Platinum 5, but then it's just 15 stars to get to Diamond 10, and a winstreak without a bonus (so just 2 stars like in the old system) can still get you there in a reasonable amount of time, I'd think.
I agree however, that it punishes people who take a break too much. Climbing 50 ranks with no bonus would take a very long time, and you'd be better advised to reach higher ranks over two or three seasons. Not really how it should be.
It would definitely be a kick in the nutsack, but I think the climb after a full season off would have to be taken in stages. The first season back would be horrible, but at least you'd have a multiplier the next season.
But saying that, I can't defend the new system against what you say. It's designed to keep the gears grinding with massive penalties for anyone that takes any time off.
It's great for one thing only - regaining your rank from the previous season.
As for the rewards, they're great - but they're not going to look as great next season as they do this season - partly because they're new and more so because of the first time rewards that are coming too.

you still get bonus even if you dont play i not played wild for like 1 year and i got 5x star bonus
but i only got 7 star bonus on standard and on plat 10 1 star now with no bonus allrdy so gonna take me 60 wins more then i lose to get legned from now on + i had to win like 20 game to get here i had a break for 2 morths i was legned 2 morths ago so sucks to have to be so far behind now i was rank 10 last morth becouse of simi afking just doing my quest

You only got that bonus because of the changeover - next month you'll get duck eggs if you don't play Wild
If you are a common legend grinder, or even rank 5 grinder which gives a "x9" star boost at this point, the climb back up to rank 10 (now known as diamond) is fairly trivial. I'm back up to gold 1 with only 6 or 7 wins, and if patterns follow, platinum won't be much slower.
I think if you have a look at how they have structured the new system, it's essentially arbitrary until you exhaust your multiplier. Matchups are completely independent of the rank until that point. So essentially having everyone start at the bottom and climb up is only beneficial for the new stacked rewards system.
As the other poster said, it's going to be a hard grind once you exhaust your multiplier - but it sure gives the good vibes to gain 9 stars for a win and 1 for a loss etc
I don't think so. Your multiplier is based on your mmr, so essentially if you play much at all you will streak until you meet the other players with your same stars where you will all be at the same rank with a similar mmr, then you go into a more grindy mode with very similar skill level players. It insures that newer less skilled players do actually have to grind to earn getting higher and learn more skill. Though it will be rough on new players towards the start of the month, but typically not for long beause much higher mmr players blast through the ranks so quickly.

Sorry, you are wrong. I haven't even seen the actual rank of my opponents, and it has been started that it will be MMR bases UNTIL you are out of stars. Starting at bronze 10 in standard felt exactly like ending in rank 3 last season in terms of the level of competition. Wild felt easier, though, for some reason. The decks were all top tier, but some very questionable plays were made by my opponents!
The whole climb from the bottom every season idea feels counterintuitive ad weird. If the level of your opponents is the same and you can skip 5 ranks with one win, it feels weird to do it in the first place. I liked the previous 4-rank decay more.
Exactly. It's also even more weird to play 30 minute games when we all can "co-op", waste 1 minute until next game starts and be out of bonus pool and with desired rank super quick.
I take back my previous reply. This new system is horrendous.
Let's start with the rewards, which I have determined are dirt crap. The rewards consist of Cards of differing rarity, going up to the one sole epic, but it's mostly rares. You also get a couple extra packs of the newest expansion. Anyone at all who saves up for the expansion will likely have all commons and rares because of the new duplicate protection. 5 packs of the latest expansion is more of the same. Extra dust, but not really meaningful. Whereas before (not saying that the rewards were spectacular before) you could at least get some gold cards that were not in your collection yet.
I suppose dust value is relatively similar (haven't made the math) if that's all you care about, but then... you have to grind for it.
Speaking of the grind. I have hit Plat 5 and lost my bonus. I now need to acquire 15 stars to get to the next rank floor, or 45 stars total to make it to legend. I can still win streak, but at my current win rate of 58% I don't see myself getting those too often.
So... what's the upside here? I don't get why you would remake the system in a way that is worse for the player. I suppose hitting legend is more feasible if you're dedicated, but that just goes to show it only rewards those who really keep playing. Casuals are royally arsed.
I am simply astounded at how greedy Blizzard has become with HS... and that despite apparently slowing sales.
I like it personally. Played like 6 - 7 games and shot up from Bronze 10 to Gold 5 very quickly. Love the fact that I have a few packs hidden away in my treasure chest for May 1st.
One question about the reward system - it gives you rewards based on the first time you reached a level (ie a classic pack for the 5th rank in each tier). I hit legend for the first time about a year ago, does that mean I will not receive the random classic legendary if I hit legend this month?

I like to system, but I would really like to see my opponents rank. I guess even diamond player can face off against a bronze player if the hidden mmr is the same for both. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Seems the mmr is saved even if you take a break. Started playing again March 30 after probably 8 months or so. Only got to rank 11 but in the new season I had x9 bonus stars. For context I was consistently hitting legend before my break, being in the dumpster around L1000 while there. In wild I had x7 bonus stars, can't remember but I think I've hit rank 2-3 there didn't play it much.
System feels ok so far, I just need to get with the meta which feels rough but when does it not. Plat 10 after a few hours and some major misplays damn you get rusty 😅.

Same here. My MMR gave me an 8 star bonus and it didn’t even take me 2 hours to get to gold 5. My star bonus will level off at Platinum 5 which is fine, at this rate it’ll take me probably another hour of investment to get there. Before with the old system getting to rank 5 was just so grindy. This at least fast tracks you to where you’re supposed to be. I figure rank 5 is about equivalent to platinum 5 or diamond 10. Either way I’m pretty sure I can hit diamond this month and get the bonus to fast track me there next month and maybe find grind my lazy ass to legend for once.

Yes you can. I started with 10x, now down to 2x at diamond level 9. Winning streaks with high multipliers bring you down the ladder quite fast. Currently playing my https://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1333288-scalelord-murloc

So to start the month out the worst players have to fight a mix of all players including the best? And they claim this to be more fair and even?
I can't confirm how the winstreak works as I am 0-5 so far XD

No, it is MMR based, not rank, like previously. You will start at a lower rank, but get the same opponents as at the end of last season.
