Remember the good old days when the first couple weeks was full of experimentation and building innovative decks? Sure there were always numbnuts playing decks with zero new cards, but overall the beginning was full of trying out stuff and looking for the next crazy synergies. Best time to play HS imho.
Now... it seems like Blizzard wants us to not focus on experimenting because they insist on giving streamers a week of pre-release experience that they know full well people will blindly copy-paste day one after opening and crafting. Of course the meta won’t be settled by any stretch, but it does begin taking shape faster than it should.
And it’s working. I read a post earlier where OP stated that the hype is decreased by Blizzard giving streamers early access and others reamed into him because “that’s the way it is, get over it” nonesense.
For those who will still come up with their own decks and actually experiment in the early stages of the expansion, I applaud. Thank you for keeping the game interesting.
I think a vast majority of hearthstone players will go to their favourite streamers after new expansion releases and just copy their decks..it’s just the way it is and the fact that blizzard are letting streamers have early access is just starting the process early. Many of these top tier decks come from the top streamer and that’s why people do it which I don’t blame them as it’s a competitive game.
Well Blizz showed many teams that they dont really understand their own game anymore. Tournament mode? Canceled. Introduced a weird tournament format - now canceled. Still only rewarding winning in casual. Needing more data for barnes. Overall top kek Team 5.
Because experimentation is expensive. If you craft a shit legendary you've basically wasted 12 packs worth of dust (or 30 with my luck). And if the meta is so simple it can be figured out in a week and have no changes unless cards change that's Team 5's fault.

The streamers always spend the first few days trying to make new wonky decks work. You know what no streamer has been playing since Saviors was unlocked for them? Control Warrior and Conjurer's Mage. This, despite the fact that there is no real reason to believe either of these decks are getting knocked off the t1 positions they occupied the last few months.
When you watch a bunch of your favorite players engaging in memery without any thought to actual competition, you might become convinced that certain new cards are essential to decks that will win. Inevitably, most of these decks will turn out to be garbage, but if you craft the Paladin quest in the meantime, all the better.
I've been saying for years, hold all crafting for SEVERAL weeks after a new set. But no one listens. And this is the best model to encourage impulsive crafting. Not that I'm blaming Blizzard. Fools and their dust are soon parted. But I suspect that is what's going on.

Helpful Clarification on Forbidden Topics for Hearthstone Forums:
Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.
I mean, most streamers are playing troll decks. Yogg-saron's puzzle box decks, every quest you can imagine, tempo/enrage warrior that will as usual never see play even though everyone hopes for it like at every exp. Ofc the good Octosari decks.
Honestly, remember the pre-release streamer thing for Rise of Shadows ? Do you remember any streamer playing Tempo Rogue, Cyclone Mage, Mech Aggro Hunter ? No, none of these decks were played, and ended up the very bests ones of the exp. Sure people were trying Bomb Warrior but it was far from the refined version we have now.
What I remember from Rise of Shadows early stream was mostly Dragon Paladin, Secret Paladin, Murloc Shaman (ended up being good but no one needed early streamers to pick up on that) and some pink teddy bear version of what Rogue became after.

The newest way to manipulate the masses through streamers nudging them to play preconceived decks ranked meta. Part of a long standing tradition inherent to card design to show developers contempt for skill, strategy and diversity.

I agree with OP. I dislike the idea of pre-releases, for me it kills all the hype. It was so much more fun specifically for me, when a release hit simultaneously for everybody, and I could log in, start opening packs and building decks I theorycrafted preliminarily, while at the same time watching my favorite streamers, wondering what creative directions would their minds choose. And now by the time the expansion is out everybody has seen many decks and many builds by streamers, and there is much less fresh trial in ladder from the very beginning. And it saddens me.
I wish there would be no meta.... how amazing would it be to be available to play whatever you want and still be available to win... Hearthstone has so much diversity and yet some of us choose to play a mindless aggro deck...( I don't hate aggro players, but I never played aggro(I think only once when I started playing but I did not even know what aggro means), for me that is just not fun, period).

I quite agree.
I usually craft day one but that’s because I want to play fun stuff. It’s not like HS is really that competitive of a game anymore, so why not play fun memes and enjoy the game?
I've steadfastly avoided all theorycraft streams or decklists, so I'll be going in fresh, but I'll probably have to suffer for it, and get stomped by the early sheepdecks. It's unfortunate for me, but that's the culture of gaming, I guess :)
i dont think this prerelease streams remove the experimentation side of things or hype. to me its to the contrary, I get more hyped and get more ideas to where I want to go with my first few decks. To most people experimenting is figuring out what deck is the best, and that is a fun and engaging aspect of it, I do understand people who want to fool around with weird decks too, but that the one is more moral or better in any way I disagree with. If you want to experiment with strange decks and combos, I suggest you make a forum post inviting people to leave their gametag to play some fun and experiementive games on release in stead. and then you can leave the try harding to those that want to do that on ladder.
You should try out Elder scrolls legends- few people play it and therefore you can build a really whacky and fun deck and win! when I m sick of HS s meta I just switch to it for a couple of days- play some cool midrange dragon version of tri color decks and have a blast
I really dislike all the pre-release benefits that hearthstone "influencers" are starting to be awarded.
You have some people trying to go "unspoiled" until expansion time, meanwhile Blizzard is trying to artificially inflate hype by showing YouTubers having fun before everyone else. And let's not forget the fireside gathering pre-release events.
Seems like everyone forgot when RegisKillbin uploaded his card reviews for the first few Rise of Shadows cards... BEFORE the official reveal trailer was even released.

Lol well said.
Actually I see a very different motive here . . .

I'll still try to experiment. My only goal is to reach Level 5 with my homebrewn decks (which went quite well so far).
Catching away some wins from the "Top-Tier" guys is my current idea of fun with HS - and I'm pretty content with that.
I don't see much point in complaining. I just try to make the best of it. And I still like the game!

i blame the pre-release streams. Really curtails peoples thinking based on what looks powerful based on a small sample size.
Day 1 will be 90% BC Quest Shaman, just like how RoS day 1 was 90% bomb warrior
I made the carpet warrior deck way before any streamer did ;)
