Hello there my friends, i thought about this for a while and i don't even know if anyone wants to hear it, but i wanted to give ALL the thoughts i have about this game, which we all love. (let's be honest you wouldn't be writing on a forum if you didn't). I myself am by no means a veteran player, i started playing with the launch of KaC and have only reached legend once in that time.
Starting with the good points, i like this game a lot, so much that my gf hates this game :D There are so many fun interactions and what i like most, is that it is really simple but at the same time hides a big amount of skill in handreading, knowing all the decks and so on. The art is great and i like the connection to wow, which i also played a lot.
But on the sad side not EVERYTHING is great within this game. First of all it's to god damn expensive. It's not just expensive, it is insanly overpriced. For 50 bucks you normally get to play a whole game with everything the game has to offer. For 20 more you may be able to play a dlc and have a little more fun. In hearthstone, you got 2 guaranteed legendaries plus one at the start of the expansion (witchwood preorder) and on average you get 4 plus 1. FOR 50 BUCKS, like hello? I mean sure you can get lucky and everyone loves the feeling of getting some really nice pack, but jesus, you can build 2 decks with your stuff at the start of an expansion and i find the pricing so insanly high. (on average you would get 5/23 legies) Imagine in another game where you would be able to play only a fourth of the game if you bought it. And then if you are really rich, got all the collection, if you have a thing for aestetics, you can use 4 times more dust to get that stuff as well.
To the second point: This has been discussed so many times, but i still think that something need to change about the r-p-s meta. i don't know how exactly you should adress this problem, but this will continue to be a problem forever, if you ask me.
now, the meta atm is not exactly the worst but it is also not by any means the best one either. But at the same time it is so tiring, it feels like we had the same meta for a half year already, why does blizz only nerf things so late? And also why don't they buff/nerf things more frequently not only for balance issues but also to give the meta a new shape every month or something like that.
and to the third point, which is connected to the boredom of point two: I am most of the time playing between rank 5 and 1. And i have absolutely nothing to achieve. i only play because i like to play this game (which is good obviously) but after a while and esp. when the meta doesn't change, you really have nothing to do. you know all matchups, hell you know when you will win or lose from turn 1 most of the time. (rip tournament mode :'( )
that's it, my opinions, tell me where you agree/disagree and beforhand, i am not salty about anything, i like this game, i love it, but i think there could be improvements. i wish you a nice week <3
I agree wholeheartedly about it being way too expensive. I think its about time to get with the times, you know? I think prices were acceptable when GvG and TGT were the only expansions, as there weren't too many cards to obtain, but with a whole 9 expansions out, being a budget high ranking player is nearly impossible. I also dislike the heavy reliance on combos and aggro in the meta. I feel like a long time ago, you built decks that really just relied on skill and good draw. Games used to be comparable to chess games in my opinion. Misplays and smart plays decided the game. Now, you either stall long enough to kill your opponent in one turn, or you try to kill your opponent by turn 5. It's not really a fun overall experience anymore. The same 5 deck archetypes are running rampant at high levels and its causing the game to feel stale.
Quite a big topic, so I'll answer your issues first:
As a F2P, I think it is not entirely expensive, at the condition that you content yourself with the full development of a couple of classes, and skip/dust the others (collection planning and management). Problem is with new players and I fully understand they could feel overwhelmed, despite the new ranks (they don't last so long anyway...). But I think costs are affordable for veterans with decent collection management.
As for meta staleness, I think the real solution is not to nerf/buff existing cards, but to make midterm mini-releases with a bunch of new cards to shake up the meta. It would be pretty easy to do (they could even just hold some cards from major releases). Players like novelty, if you do not feed them regularly, they get tired, and rightly so. This would also help with your third complain, as well as with the feeling that the game itself got already past its maturity phase.

I guess this is the effect of insane powercreep in the Control side, much steeper than Aggro powercreep (mind that I am not saying Aggro is weak). You basically get Aggro archetypes squeezed into Tempo/Midrange decks that can apply continuous and increasing pressure, and Control squeezed into Combo/OTK. I am not sure this is a healthy tendency.
On the other hand, as I keep writing like a madman, I think they should stop printing cards that are obviously insane on paper, that are only kept in check within the Standard meta: on the long run this tends to break Wild Mode into insanity (and often requiring emergency nerfs in Standard that turn out to be unpleasant anyway). "Wild is Wild" is no fun beyond Casual gaming, and Wild is currently a deserted mode that needs more players lest it becomes a joke.
I don't think it's too expensive, just save up gold and be careful when crafting. Economics will run its course. First point... as a F2P player... i think it's free. I can make any deck i want... just need to save some time to gather dust and gold... if u think it's expensive... just stop buying cards and buy when they had a good offer.
Second point... that's is the nature of the game... win some plays... let other win some. No one deck is wonderful... but u can get high ranked if u try enough.
Third point - part 1. I agree with u, we need more achievements... just some small gifts will make everything nice (like u could see on Gwent for ex.) - Part 2. That's not a reality.... if u use a odd paladin and find a warrior... u'll probably lose... but if u are with a druid/rogue/shaman... u could find good games against almost every class.
CCGs thrive by restricting access to their content. There are a few IRL card games which allow folks to purchase the entire set of playable cards each time a new expansion is released - the genre is usually called 'Living Card Games." No one plays them - collectively, LCGs have less than 1% of the market share in the industry. The first C is kind of important - it turns the game into a hobby, and by extension, a kind of lifestyle choice.
The only HS content producers I watch are the folks who do the Angry Chicken podcast. Typically, they get about 100 viewers for each of their streams. When a new expansion launches, hundreds more show up, just to watch folks opening packs of cards. Kripp used to get over 100K for his pack-opening streams. Opening packs is the biggest draw in the game. Like it or not, millions of people are willing to pay hundreds of dollars every year, just for the thrill of opening packs in their favourite CCG. If MtG changed their business model to "give us $50, and we'll give you every card from Ravnica," the business would implode pretty quickly. Over twenty years ago, I was lucky enough to buy a Mox Ruby at a coin dealer for $40. It's worth over 100 times that now. It would be a worthless piece of paper if it wasn't for the first C, and the game would lose all of its allure for just about everyone who plays it.
Play arena. The boomsday meta is the best it has ever been, and the event is amazing. Play wild now that druid has been knocked down a we bit it's good too. Both are much cheaper/ more f2p friendly than standard assuming you have a decent understanding of the game and have been playing for a while.
If you are a new player (less than 6-12months)...look elsewhere. MTG Arena is in open beta and is pretty good. Artifact is about to come out. Also a bunch of other interesting cardgames are in development.
Unless you are a professional gamer there is 0 reason to play standard

Then you think that 50 bucks for Min of 3 legendaries is fine ? i agree with the other points but also as a f2p i think i could buy something if that wasnt soo expensive
The game is even more expensive since they removed adventures and now every class has 2 leggos per expansion.
The balance team is atrocious, like they're an absolute meme.
They dont know what direction they want to take this game, so now its going to slowly die(like it already is) and more competitors are going to take the player base.
More competitivors did nothing to hs if u think artifact is gonna be un doing of hs let’s look at other card games out there that did nothing. So we have MTGA we Féria gwent that Bethesda one Shadowverse. None of these laid a hand on hs

Yea youre right hs will kill itself lmao and yes artifact will indeed have an effect.
I agree with the people who have noticed that team 5 is rudderless after some high-profile defections. Will they find their groove? Did they actually have it before or just better community relations and marketing?

Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
I play from beta and imo hearthstone is best it ever was. I still don't think constructed is good, but there is no one deck dominating all others like it happened many times before, pirate warrior being an example. I recommend arena, they actually fixed it after breaking it with excess spells when they realized they have arena mode and decided to rebalance it even though it was completely fine. Constructed was just a money grab all this time while arena mode got you more gold and was good most of the time.
I think the r-p-s meta will go away after rotation. Death Knights, Quests, and the Recruit mechanic are all really polarizing and promote linear gameplans. Hopefully once those things go away we can see a lot more decks that adapt to their opponent.
1. You are looking at this from an entirely ridiculous perspective. Hearthstone is very expensive, but comparing Hearthstone, a Strategy Card Game, to any normal video game, like an Action game, a Shooter, and so on, is completely nonsensical.
Strategy Card Games are, have been, and likely will always be very expensive hobbies. This has been true far before Hearthstone came out, and from someone who played decades of physical strategy card game, HS is actually not very expansively comparatively.
If you want to argue how expansive HS is, you are perfectly free to do so, but please, avoid making a comparison with anything that is not exactly the same as HS. Compare Apples with Apples, not Apples with Oranges.
2. Rock Paper Scissors is what a perfect balances looks like in any Strategy Card Game, anyone who doesn't enjoy this aspect of card games might need to look elsewhere. Either that, of hope for unbalanced game states, where decks are at a much higher power level compared to the rest, meaning they easily and consistently overpower other decks, regardless of their natural advantage, just by sheer brute force.
Blizzard shouldn't make changes just to "refresh" the Metagame, they have a large audience they don't want to alienate with constant card changes (Yes, card changes easily alienate players, anytime a player sees a card needed for decks they enjoy changes, it is a heavy reason to stop playing, as they no longer can play what they enjoy). They need to make changes when there are balance problems, which is not the case right now, the game has been very healthy in terms of balance recently. You haven't played for long, but the game was largely unbalanced across all these years, you do not want to ruin what they achieved just for the sake of refreshment.
3. If the game is boring and not fun, that is usually a clue to do something else, like take a break. The more you play, and the more consistently you do so, and the more frequently you do, the higher and higher is the chance that you hit that breaking point. The Diminishing Returns point. Past this point you are just going to keep obtaining less and less amounts of enjoyment out of this activity, because you are exhausting yourself constantly doing the same thing.
The actual problem in Hearthstone right now, is the fact that Blizzard want to juggle two directions for the game which are just not possible to coincide. Having a truly widespread appeal, casual, wacky game full of crazy stuff to do will not work for a very competitive and extremely engaged scene, like those players that played absurd amounts of hours, be it very engaged players, streamers, or competitive players.
While you might want to point to games like Magic The Gathering for cases of both directions working, I'd ask you to check again, and see if they actually work for the first direction above.
The casual appeal of Hearthstone, where you can easily just pick it up and play at any point without much issues to get back in, where you expect a constant base of knowledge and cards that provides the pillars for this direction of the game, does not match with the hyper competitive approach, which requires constant changes, constant release of content and a very strong competitive circuit to enter. Reality is there is no sweet middle spot they can reach, because almost the entire player base is on one of the extremes, the very casual, and the very engaged.
1. I do agree hearthstone as a card game is expensive but you can't compare it to other games, I never cared about dropping 100-150$ per expansion but really gets me is all the card rotating out makes that investment useless. Ya ok you can "play those cards in wild", wild sucks - majority of people don't play it. disagree? then why do i queue up against the same opponent 10x more often, why does it take 2min at times to find a match, why am i being paired with someone 10 ranks away from mine. I can go on forever about wild. but not getting full value out of my money is my problem 135cards in an expansion and at best 30 are used is a waste - ao yes i agree hearthstone is expansive in that regard.
2.what on earth are you smoking 'rock paper scissor a perfect balance" i don't ever remember hearthstone being this polarizing. countless people who actually play this game 5+hours a day (kibler/zalae/forgotisname..........) all agree this is a problem. People who actually play this game for more than 5min a day realize this is a problem
3.STFU, people like you are the problem. This game has been out for what 4years now, NOTHING as far as achievement/rewards have been added this is long overdue for that.

That's not a reality.... if u use a odd paladin and find a warrior... u'll probably lose... but if u are with a druid/rogue/shaman... u could find good games against almost every class.
Regarding pricing -
CCGs thrive by restricting access to their content.
Mox ruby **drools** I loved MTG, I played during odyssey block.
Here's the state of hearthstone. It sucks right now. It's all rock > paper > scissors. That's really all you need to know.
Unless you are a professional gamer there is 0 reason to play standard
a
Then you think that 50 bucks for Min of 3 legendaries is fine ? i agree with the other points but also as a f2p i think i could buy something if that wasnt soo expensive
The state of hearthstone
The game is even more expensive since they removed adventures and now every class has 2 leggos per expansion.
The balance team is atrocious, like they're an absolute meme.
They dont know what direction they want to take this game, so now its going to slowly die(like it already is) and more competitors are going to take the player base.
Wow ur complaining about 2 free legendary cards lol u must have not been playing for long then. How bout no free stuff and just preorder
Unpopular opinion: Rogue is OP
I don't think its fine... so just don't buy and they will get things cheaper over the time....
