Well in all honesty the rank of a player doesn't always represent the player's skill.
Hearthstone isn't that difficult once you reach a certain level of knowledge. The rest is all about picking the right deck at the right time, RNG and grind.
Says person who trully have no clue about 2-3 turns ahead. It's like saying "chess is easy - you learn how pieces move - after that it's just grind". No, it's not. Great players do amazing hand reads, perfect analysis, juggling variations and making it to the top. That's why there's so much same names in a lot of championships. Cause they ARE better. Game has impressive depth.
Your similitude makes no sense at all. I've never said that there's no skill involved in hearthstone, it's just that the skill cap is not really that high. I watch a lot of streamers and 99% of the time I'd make the same plays. Does this make me a genius? I don't think so, it's just that the game is not that difficult. Maybe you can't accept this fact cause you feel so smart when you do certain things, but in all honesty that's just the way that Blizzard built the game. And they are making it more and more a child's game, it's true and deep inside you know that too. The impressive depth that you speak of is just basic maths...
people who think theres this huge difference between a legend player and a rank 5 are delusional. the only difference i see is the time invested. unless of course someone is consistently stuck at 5 and cant get higher, then i would agree. other than that, no difference in skill at all. its just a time investment., thats my opinion. this game is not chess. this game is a game where a 56% winrate is considered good.
56% winrate in any other game or sport, and youd be never making the playoffs etc....yer HS players can get to Legend with that winrate if they put the time in.
In a game that *requires* actual money to stay up to date with the meta I don’t think you can say that any player is “better” than another unless playing on a level playing field (say Arena).
Anyone that thinks the difference between rank 5 players and legend players is negligible obviously have never watched them play. I've helped several people go from consistent rank 5-10 finishes to consistently making legend, and the difference is pretty noticeable. Playing against them you wouldn't be able to tell, but if you watch them play and can see the mistakes they are making it is easy to see. That's not to say that every legend player is better than every rank 5 player, that's obviously not true, but in general that is the case.
There is some measure of skill obviously, but imo it equally takes sheer force of will and concentration. Maybe you can put in the hours but get bored or frustrated easily and start to misplay or rush through games. Some people can maintain their composure better than others in a game that can become very tedious with repeated play. Also I think having kids can really tank your win rate sometimes 😁
Legend players are, by definition, players who hit legend - regardless of whether they hit it once or simply every season. There's no reason to even argue that point. Of course there still are differences in skill between someone hitting top 100 legend regularly and someone just grinding it once for the cardback, but nobody in their right mind would deny that. In my opinion, stating that rank 5 and (low) legend are equal is acceptable; you even argue yourself that when a season is ending, it becomes easier to climb to legend, meaning that this gap between rank 5 and legend loses any relevance it might have during the first two weeks of a season.
If you can get to rank 5 you can get to Legend, Legend = time played/rng and skill, it's not JUST skill. I've only ever been Legend twice, once on Asia and once on NA, still haven't been Legend on Europe despite that being my main region, I just cannot be bothered to invest time to go from 5-Legend again, it's too much of a chore for someone who doesn't care about tournament points etc.
Amazing how you reach the conclusion that all legend players are not the same but seem incapable of seeing the obvious - that the same applies to rank 5 players. Some are genuinely good enough to be legend but don't have the time or patience, deal with it.
I've been legend 3 or 4 times, and yes, rank 5 players are just as good as legend ones 99% of the time, just with less play. Most legend players aren't very good. There's one guy in my friends list who's almost always rank 1 legend within the first few days of the month, but I've watched him play, and he's no better than anybody else, he just seems to do nothing but play Hearthstone, lol.
i think this only applies to top100 maybe top200 legend. Consistently hitting those ranks means you are at the top level of this game. Otherwise is just grind, and rank5/lower legend is the same thing
Nah, Legend isn't a huge deal. I see missplays regularly from rank 1 and legend dumpster players, especially with decks I play often. They are probably missplaying just as much with the decks I'm not good with and I don't see it because I'm just as bad as them. Even bots can reach legend. It's mathematically not hard if you spam HS for hours and hours. Rank 5 players are as good as dumpster legend. It's only when you climb higher up that simple grinding stops getting you further up the ladder. Top 1000, top 500, top 100. That's where it matters
You know what would be a good measure of skill? Amount of ranks a person gains given x amount of games. Winrates over large sample sizes. Newsflash: if it actually takes you 1,000s of hours or 200+ games to reach legend, or have a 56% wr then you are either playing meme decks or genuinely bad at the game. Well, maybe not "bad" but certainly nowhere near as good as legend players outside of the dumpster. If you're a good player, reaching legend shouldn't take much longer than doing your daily quests every day, or a couple evenings worth of gameplay. It's very doable and it doesn't require sacrificing having a life

Top 100 legend in first few days means nothing, almost nobody is grinding at the start of the month. Rank at the end of the month is what matters. People who consistently finishes below top 200 do have more skill than those who don't.
I beat Fr0zen once, when I hit legend in the first week of April. Nobody can take that away from me haha =P.
But like... Isn't it common knowledge that people at higher ranks are better than people at lower ranks? I still classify myself as something like a "fake legend" player, because I just feel like an ordinary guy, still put my pants on one leg at a time. But really, it's not like there's tooooo many intricate decisions in this game once you have played enough. Being legend has more to do with actually reading the meta, than "playing better cards at better times", because one thing's for sure, at a high enough level (I'd say starting around rank 1-3 ish), misplays hardly ever happen. Not saying they don't happen! I'm just saying people get there for a reason.
The main reason I can't hit top 500 or even top 1000 (ended last season at 2000) is, I have a full time job and other social obligations. I can't commit the 40+ hours a week to this game haha.

Depends on the level of effort to attain 5 or legend.
I maintain a 60%+ win rate at rank 5 with homebrew decks, but only play 10 to 15 matches a week. It is mathematically impossible for me to reach legend in 30 days.

NUFF SAID......mic drop!

You think grinding that extra 200+ games every month for 35 dust is worth it? Ok.....

Don't confuse having all the cards with being more skilled than everyone else.... plus nobody cares.
At all.

Are Legend Rank 20000 players as good as High Legend players ?
No.

Yes.

I would narrow it down to 2000.
Well the result is the same.
