I've been thinking a lot about how T5 said a while back that old card backs will be available to obtain again sometime in the future. Brode (RIP) talks about it here.
This is a terrible idea. Card backs are battle scars.
We have been through so much in this game...we have been chased down by Starving Buzzards and hounds. Buried by the Undertaker and puked on by Sludge Belcher. Diagnosed with a death sentence by Dr. Boom and never found out who Mysterious Challenger really was. Piled on by one too many Grim Patron and robbed one too many times by Reno Jackson. Mech Mage! Freeze Mage! OTK Mage! Oh my! Opening 4 Aya Blackpaws on Mean Streets launch....oh no...
..and then the Jades coming marching in.
We've played through it all, spent all the money, rage quit, BM'd, waited for nerfs that never came and never stopped grinding. You're oldest card back shows what you've endured, shows how long each of us has stood by Hearthstone.....dont take that from us, Blizz.
For most of the card backs it just means you have been playing the game longer. Why should someone be penalized for not encountering the game sooner? For me, I want that dang Christmas cardback so I can rock that during Nov and Dec each year.
I've been collecting card backs since day 1, I use it to show I've been playing for a long time. They can add all the new cardbacks they want, they don't need to give the only reward/achievement we have in the game.
I started playing the game at the very end of April 2015, but I couldn't even get to rank 20. I want my damn cupcake card back.
Wow literally the oldest one i have is the cupcake one, but then i took an almost two year brake from the game? Did many come before the cupcake? Its the one i rock even though it is not the most exciting to look at!
I started to play ladder after the Old Gods came out and I don't have many cardbacks, but I completely agree, Blizzard shouldn't release cardbacks that were available back in the old days.
I totally see where you're coming from but in my bias opinion I disagree. I started playing a few months ago and some of those cardbacks look really nice. The idea that I won't be able to get them would suck, as I like giving different cardbacks to my different decks and I only have like eight i think. I'm sure there are a lot of you who have been playing a long time but not long enough to have them all who kind of want some of those first backs. If it were just a few promotional things like you'd see in another game then sure but that's a ton of card backs new players will be missing out on.

Same dude, and the hallows end one with the Pumpkin is my most coveted.
The first one I ever got was Tiny Finbeach though which I use during summer.
I'd really love a chance at getting all the ones I've missed though... but I do see how vets could get salty over it, it's why I thought it would never happen.
BTW have you seen next months lemonade one? it's so cool.
You can buy old card backs by just buying an adventure and completing heroic... No need to sell other ones
harder said than done though. most of those game modes require you to do things with old mechanics to win heroic.
I have all of them, and still haven't managed to get even 1 card back from any of them, because they all require you to have cards from that periods expansions, or just insane RNG.
If there is a way to do this without having to buy wild cards, I'd love to hear about it though as the BRM one is really nice, as is the Karazhan one.
PS: actually I don't have naxramus, but I have the others and never managed to beat the heroic mode on any of them unfortunately due to not having the relevant cards that work.
That being said, it's not like I've tried tons. I have attempted all of them though and they are not exactly easy... I mean I know they're meant to be hard, but the older ones especially as they were designed with mechanics in line with what the game did at the time.
I think if you want these card backs now as a new player, you;re best off crafting a deck from that time period to do it. so It could end up being very expensive.
I guess all of these game modes are wild though, so having a nice pool of older cards would certainly be beneficial to anyone wanting to complete heroic adventures.
Some of us just like wearing gem encrusted thongs. I don't know what you're talking about. Also, Rank 20 wasn't hard to reach, and neither is five wins. I've been with the game since before BRM. Card backs have never once felt much special, and they won't for a long time.

OP, while I agree cardbacks are more than just cosmetics and make for a good 'achievement' show off and overall collection purposes, to say they shouldn't be available to others is bias opinion from someone who already has them. Your old and exclusive cardback doesn't say "I'm better" than new players and that you "have seen some shit" go down in HS history, it basically says you had the chance to join and play the game earlier than someone who's coming into it now, and they are probably just as passionate about the game as you are.
My main issue with people defending cardbacks stay retired is that old players didn't necessarily pay for their cardbacks. To a new player, however, there are only about 12-16 cardbacks available, most of which require you to cash-out at least a few hundred dollars for old adventures or other blizzard game pre-orders and deluxe editions. Yet there are 50+ now retired cards that were basically free to long term R20+ players.
Sure, they are still being added to the game and more nice ones will be added over the months, but there's no reason why they couldn't re-release the previous cards, with some conditions. Even if they were gifted for free once a month it would take years to go through them all -- and thus your cardback rarity would be "secured". An even better option would be to make them available as part of a harder monthly challenge (something grindy, like win 25 ranked games) so people can earn them. Or, make them available for purchase in the shop. I can imagine the community being divided and none too happy about it but surely it'd be lucrative for Blizzard if they made it happen nonetheless.

I just went and checked my BRM dlc and it seems I forgot to do one of the floors so I still have my Cromaggus to collect. awesome. is it good in wild do you know?
I guess people make like to have old backs, but they've became achievements. What if I buy one of those they gave you on a Blizzcon? what are those gifts worth of? What about the Diablo Anniv Brawl?
I might agree with the OP if the monthly card back was more than just an attendance prize. 5 wins, or even rank 20 is just that. You didn't have to endure some lengthy grind to legend to "earn" those.
I'd really appreciate a method to somehow grind out a "retro" card back somehow. Maybe make it very time intensive though, to be "fair" to the veterans of the game so any old newbie couldn't just spend a couple hours to obtain all the same backs.

I dunno, I think that adding this card backs back is a good thing. Many players probably missed the first few months.
they should only sell/give away a certain few old card backs people want and not all of them so collectors wont feel like their efforts were in vain
Kobolds are almost as bad as goblins, they gotta die (⌐■_■)–︻╦╤─

I agree with op. It shows what you have "lived" through hearthstone wise. Wheres the shame in not having ones from before you played the game?
I kind of agree that the Christmas one should come out every year so everyone can rock it over the festive period.
Totally agree with OP..
