So I kinda like the concept of this Brawl, but I think it could have been better if all cards were playable for everyone.
It would have been nice to not be forced to play it for the entire day ... but that is for a different thread.
In the current format, it excludes a LOT of players, especially new ones. Or, it pushes a lot of players into playing the same two or three cheap but effective Wild decks. If players could have built a deck from all the cards, we may have seen a lot of creative decks being played, but instead we get a bunch of Secret mages and Aggrodin's.
Thoughts?

I agree. I was really surprised it limited you to what's only in your collection - it basically guarantees that every player without a substantial wild collection will only play it once with the free ticket and then never again (which is me). I would have played it many times if I could try out different wild decks and everyone was on the same footing.
So yeah I think that was a mistake, although I guess it's nice to throw the wild-only guys a bone and give them an advantage for once.
For me it would not matter since I have all the old cards and most of the new ones, but for a limited collection I agree - they should have made it possible to build a brawl deck from all the cards in the game instead of the players collection.
I don’t see any reason to give everyone equal footing. That is a brawl and one time free as well. If people decide to dust half their collection it is up to them. At least everyone gets a pack unlike with the heroic brawls.
And i don’t know how anyone could think we would see many creative decks. It should be well known that every meta settles for the successful decks and not for the creative ones (although it is of course possible to have a creative and successful deck). No one wants to play some whacky deck if he pays 150g. Even in casual you see mostly tier 1-3 decks.

My point was that putting everyone on equal footing would lead to more people like me playing it after the free one and giving blizzard my money than there are currently. I wasn't saying it would be a wacky fiesta of never before seen meme decks, I know everyone would just be netdecking the top decks. But it could also convert people to wild and make them actually craft things like anivia if they liked playing the deck for several games for 150 gold. As it stands there's no way in hell I'm committing my dust to a deck that I don't even know if I'd like in a game format that I don't currently play.

Gotta keep in mind, not everyone has played the game since 2015. It's not a matter of dusting anything. For a new(ish) player, I have a pretty decent collection, but my cards from anything before Un'Goro only consist of what I crafted to play a few decks in wild every now and then. And I don't think I am representative of the "average" player. I have spent around $500 since starting last July. That's not something every new can player can (or would) do.

In any other situation besides a Tavern Brawl, I would agree. But I think a lot of players, especially newer ones, would have stepped outside of the box a little, just to get to play cards they wouldn't otherwise be able to play. If nothing else, they would have netdecked something, but Wild has plenty of options. Anything would be better than Dude Paladins with a couple minibots, or secret mages with a Duplicate tossed in.

I agree with Horkinger here. Giving players equal footing is a bad idea, the brawl already rewards you with a pack even if you lose every match so there is no point in making it fair for everyone. Your free entry gets you what any brawl would get you and if you regret dusting your wild collection or you never had one you can always pay the exact same fee to play arena which happens to be fair.

In every tavern brawl with deckbuilding so far, the majority of people are playing the best decks after figuring out what they are. Winning is still the funniest thing in hearthpwn and for every person that takes the opportunity to test crazy things, there are 10 people who just build the best decks. I cannot imagine that a brawl that costs 150g is any different. I am convinced that if you give everyone access to everything, silver hand Paladin, secret Mage and control warlock is everything you see (exaggeration, but you know where I was getting to; make it four viable but OP wild decks more).
There has never been a build-a-deck brawl where you use a custom collection. Why start now? I much prefer this to premade decks. There have been plenty of other PTW brawls as well.
And i am pretty sure people have gotten 12 wins with decks without a single Wild card in them. Other decks just require a couple of commons you should craft anyway.

That's what I personally take issue with. I mean, it's fine, I enjoyed my free ticket, but I'm not playing again because there's nothing interesting about it. Typically tavern brawls have some "fun" aspect about them, but to me this feels like they are testing out a constructed arena game mode rather than a tavern brawl which I typically use to get AWAY from standard meta decks. I'm not saying they should cater to my preferences, but this is an opinion thread and that is my opinion.
I just think with all this recent promotion of wild content it would have been nice to see more people playing with wild-specific content in this particular brawl, that's all.
What I really would like is an unnerfed constructed brawl, though! It would require more cretivity, and most probably show that powercreep have made many of those nerfs irrelevant...

Would be interesting to see. Although, many nerfed cards where not nerfed because they were OP themselves, but because they enabled interactions that simply lead to high burst. Imagine Aggro Druid with unnerfed Innervate and orignial Force of Nature . That should be a couple of quick games. And Warsong Commander might make warrior viable again. Other cards like Abusive Sergeant or Leper Gnome would likely still be regular participants of aggressive decks.
But there are sure cards like Ancient of Lore which wouldn't be played any more since there are just superior replacements (UI).
