So, with the realease of this new expansion, there are some cards that show skeletons in their art. Is Blizzard going to censorship them like they did with The Skeleton Knight to try to avoid any kind of trouble with China, or they will ignore such a ridiculous thing this time? What do you think? I wish Blizzard would stop with this kind censorship, because well, it's plain retarded and I'm pretty sure many chinese people think the same.
Say no to CENSORSHIP!!! :P
Here are the two different artworks for the Skeleton Knight:
P.D.: Ok, ok, I have to understand that chinese people have a different culture and a different kind of goverment than me, but let's be honest guys, isn't all this thing stupid as hell?
On one hand, you are reasonable enough to understand that the ban on skelton images, in China, is enrooted in some culture and traditions, but on the other, you then proceed to call it stupid as hell ... 1 step forward, 2 steps back ... *shm*
On a different note, just put an helmet on any skull, and you are China-approved

It's just that I'm against this kind of censorship (especially in video games), I can't help it, but most people in China probably don't give a shit about this, neither my friend (I didn't ask him), so well, at least now some people know something more about Hearthstone thanks to my opening post. :P

Many people seem to have misconceptions about this whole "censorship" with skeletons.
First of all, read this. I won't talk about this whole culture thing. The most important point I'd highlight though:
The censorship of skeletons in foreign games like WOW and Dota 2 was probably voluntary on the part of the games’ Chinese publishers, who were being extra careful to avoid any potential delays in the review process.
Does Blizzard have any moral obligation to stand up against the censorship terms?
Of course not! Why would they bother about the morals of censorship when they are a business that's there to earn money through the games they create.
China is the largest market for Hearthstone (NA is probably half of it's market). Expansions within Hearthstone have to go live worldwide at around the same time - if the review process do not allow the new expansion to go through, then the entire expansion will have to be pushed back, thus generating massive lashbacks. Lashbacks > Less profit to earn from players. It's definitely not a stupid business decision, but one that's pretty logical.

Ok dude, you win, of course it's not a stupid business decision from Blizzard, but I just wanted to express my hate towards censorship in video games and to know what other people think about all of this.
Usually i dislike censorship but in this case i actually don't care.
tbh the artwork with the helmet looks great.
This. I like the other artwork more anyway, really neat helmet. Some cultures find skulls offensive since it reminds them of death. Other cultures find breasts/butts/nudity offensive.

I lived in china for 2 years and they are very censorship heavy, they block google, facebook, twitter, even websites like tumblr. And on their TV they won't show anything with black magic like witchcraft or evil spirits and in their buildings with more than 4 floors the number 4 is replaced with an 'm' because the chinese word for death 死 is the same as the number 4 四。thats just a few examples from the top of my head, if i put my mind to it i could pull up a hundred more stories of censorship
But im still looking forward to going back next month ^.^
Edit: chinese number 4 is pronounced the same as death (besides a change in tone)
Dude what do you as European or American (or wherever you come from) have to do with Chinese culture? Do you live in China? Do their rules and culture affect you? Just stay away from others peoples/countries business.
Imo censoring skeletons is not even weird. Why would you want to show symbol of death anyway?
Aside from the Chinese culture, censorship in generel (all over the world) is a bad thing - I hate that rap songs get censored on youtube. Like what is the point? It is not like children wouldn't pick it up anyway - oh a word like F*ck offend you? Wauw a word offend you? Stfu and crawl back to your cave - some people.

Hahahaha, symbol of death? What a joke... Next one!!!
It's not about respecting chinese culture, it's about abiding to chinese communist laws. If Blizzard doesn't censor these cards beforehand, the Chinese Government will do it anyway and they won't be able to sell in China.

This sums it up perfectly. Blizzard would not print cards for the US market, for example, showing bare female breasts. Is that "censorship?" They also don't print cards showing explicit blood or gore. Is that censorship?
The fact is that all art operates under constraints, be they artificial (the rhyme and meter in a sonnet), technical (the limits of digital media, in this case) or, yes, cultural (nudity taboos, obscenity laws, etc). Some art will push the boundaries of cultural limits in order to make a message. Other - especially commercial art - will be very sensitive to these.
It isn't censorship, it isn't particularly wrong. It's an artistic and business decision, and one which has very little effect on most of us reading this English language forum.

The wonders of communism I guess...
