0,although I'm playing HS since 2013:). Sometimes, I was wondering what if i bought a Welcome Bundle, but I'm proud, because I've never spend any money in HS.
Fully ok to go without paying anything but if of all of the sale items the Welcome bundle is the best of the picks. The value, especially with the guaranteed legendary attached, is unbeatable. I fully recommend it...
....after they make the changes to packs with the new expansion.
So yeah, if you don't want to, that's more than fine, but if you aren't 100% against paying anything then go snatch it.
(or if you are like me and you've been using Google Rewards for a few years and had $5 earned over time. So TECHNICALLY I didn't spend "REAL MONEY" on it.. just the $2 during the beta)
I think there's a certain sense of pride or satisfaction in crushing someone with your F2P account when they have a paid for hero or preorder cardback.
I remember when I first started playing, and got annoyed when people had expensive and seemingly out of reach legendary cards, so it was nice when someone played Boom on seven, wasted their turn, and threw the game basically. That's less of a thing now since I have such a large collection myself, and the dust to craft anything I want.
Pre-ordered all expansions for the sake of the cardback as well as adventures. All except Karazhan, I would've if I would've had the money to do so at the time but alas... it didn't align itself properly with my wallet at that current point in time.
But ... an amount of money. I don't keep track, don't care enough. I pay for games I enjoy and I have paid content for Hearthstone every expansion.
Edit: Quickly looking over some folks' responses... why are folks 'proud' over having spent no money on a game that they enjoy and therefore most likely should want to support it...? I know there's this stigma that "Buying things in a free-to-play game makes you a horrendous person" because folks are dumb but... haven't heard of any folks that are proud over having spent no money... Why are you proud over enjoying a game but not paying for it, essentially free-loading it? I am not saying this to try to rile people up to get defensive about it as folks probably have good reasons but... point is, if you enjoy it, want to support it, why not pay for it and furthermore... why be proud over not supporting something you enjoy...?

i dont mind spending money for a game but i find hs way too expensive for myself. 50-100 euros are not enough for an expansion and old expansions so far kept the same price. I usually prefer to spend my 15-20k gold. I always had gold for advrntures.

Being F2P doesn't simply mean "not supporting something you enjoy".
Might be wrong here, but I guess the feeling of pride of some F2P players is less about the game itself, and more about some paying players. Not all of them, mind.
But from some players who spent a lot we may get a feeling, express or implied, of... smugness, shall we say? Which can be quite unnerving.
Another "target" might be those who feel compelled to buy, because they think otherwise they wouldn't stand a chance. Or those who fully embraced the P2W philosophy.
The pride could mean something like "Look, even if it's difficult, still it can be done without spending anything", a sort of testament to one's efforts, abilities and perseverance. Kind of when you beat a boss in Heroic mode ;)

Well let's get the low hanging fruit out of the way: a major reason why people don't pay for content is because many simply can't afford it. For myself the last system I paid for is a SNES and that's because my parents were buying my stuff. When i went out of my own, my spending money went down to 0 and really has been at that point since then. If gaming didn't go F2P I would've been stuck with either the Grey moral area of emulators or nothing at all. Not exactly what you asked about but it's why a lot of folks started off going F2P: no choice.
Ok that out of the way let's get to the real question: what's with the pride? Well, the PRIDE came later and was heavily created due to how F2P games were back in the day. Let's be frank here, compared the earlier days of F2P games like heathstone are flat out generous. When I played Iron Realms MUDs and any Korean MMOs F2P was pretty much a demo you could play while everyone else played the 'real game' for $50-200 a month. I remember team PvP that was all about staying near the rich player on your side while they fought the rich player on the other side while hunting for other freebie players to feel like you are doing something useful. It was fun but it was clear that you were a minnow.
You create social dynamics with such an ecosystem. When you were faced against a paying player I knew I was in a disadvantage and they KNEW it, and was HAPPY about it. it wasn't about supporting the game for them, it was about bashing the weak players and that's from their own testimony. I never developed a "P2W players suck" mentality but I felt the conditions that developed it and I DID feel pride when I bested someone with an advantage.
Combine that with a system that is scientifically designed to tempt you to buy and get addicted to buying and you get the impression that you are 'fighting the system' by not paying, that everyone, the game, the developers, the players, is making you pay or leave but you will not kneel. Besides, thinking of F2P as a matter of pride is a better alternative to being reminded that its a sign of just how poor you are, of the fact that you've missed entire generations of games due to a lack of funding and that the games you are playing are effectively Demos with constant Ads to 'pay for the real game'. That pride really isn't healthy honestly, especially when you see folks who say things like "I'm thinking of buying XYZ but then I wouldn't be F2P anymore." like it's something you WANT to be. But the pride is there for a reason.
Yeah, things get complicated when it comes to society, the brain, and the self. Even in Children's Card Games.
Sidenote: No worries about the F2Pers 'no supporting the game'. In truth, that half of the playerbase don't pay for a F2P game is actually a feature, not a fault which is why so many opt for the system. F2Pers fill up the server to create an active community and unpaid advertising ("hype"). The 'minnows feeding the whales' isn't 100% accurate. It's more like the supporting fish including the minnows, the shrimp that clean off people's teeth, the occasional shark that creates a threat, and so on. If you want to be cynical F2Pers are the "NPCs". In any case, in the F2P model you need both F2Pers and Payers happily playing for a healthy game, which is why such games moved away from pay walls and have been getting much more F2P friendly.
Ever since I started, I'd say around $400-$500. Ugh, just thinking about it gives me that buyer's remorse feeling especially since I'm a casual player that hasn't even reached Legend. But opening packs is so addicting, and I keep telling myself it's worth it because I can play Hearthstone during breaks at work, while on vacation, anywhere there's internet access.

Yeah, I have several colleagues who say that they cannot afford to pay a single Euro to the game. And then they go to the pub every friday and spend 100 Euros there.

Well baring VERY specific people everyone technically CAN pay for the game. However, to buy for something here means you aren't spending somewhere else. To buy one thing is to sacrifice somewhere else. We just simplify it by saying "I can't afford..." I bet if you told them they could spend less on the pub to go by packs they'd go "What? You're crazy." Just like how they could tell you to go spend more on the pub instead of buying HS packs and you'd look at them funny.
F2P isn't a matter of pride: you aren't 'being strong' or 'proving yourself' for not buying things. But it's not a matter of freeloading anymore than visiting the pub with some friends and opting to just drink water. F2P games are MADE to be played for pay OR for free. It's not a demo and it's not a moral failing to never pay for the game or for paying thousands for it. Either way, Blizzard welcomes your company and you are contributing to HS's success. That's the benefit of the F2P model.
Though it's also a penalty. No whales and the game goes broke. No F2P and the game goes empty, then broke (thus why F2P has gotten less P2W over time). So long as you don't regret what you've been doing, keep playing how you want to play. Or pubbing.
Bought something on Beta for the Golden Legendary that no one ever uses.
Have bought classic packs about 4 times.
Bought some GvG
Bought Naxx
Bought the preorder for TGT
Bought Blackrock Mountain
Bought pre order for WotoG
Bought Karazhan
Bought packs for Gadgetzan
Bought pre order and packs for Un Goro
Bought pre order for KotFT and planning on buying more packs if cards look cool.
Oh yeah and the starter pack.
Maybe I am missing something, but I am pretty sure I am at 400+!
Its a bit too much in my opinion but I never felt like it was a lot at the moment of buying, I could be cutting on Vodka or Beer a bit and buy twice as much but I feel at some point is not worth the investment unless you want a full Golden collection / set of decks, which I honestly don't want to do as it would take a shit load of money!
348,9 euros since June 2016. Welcome bundle, BRM, LOE, ONIK, UNGORO prepurchase, 5 arena tickets, 30000 amazon coins. I plan to keep buying every preorder, and as soon it will be available Naxxramas (and maybe 60 packs of GvG, but only if the price is convenient). Can't complain, i've basically every meta deck, and less than an euro per day for something that gave me plenty of good moments sounds like a good deal to me
I've preordered every expansion and adventure since release, also the starter bundle and all the alternate heroes. That's it, I have never impulsively bought any random packs, the rest is bought with gold.
So 5 expansions at £35, 4 adventures at £20 (give or take a few pounds), plus the heroes, almost £300 spent.
Which to me, is not a lot considering how many hours of fun I have had playing HS over the years. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than I spend per year getting drunk at the weekend, and I've had hobbies that have burnt a bigger hole in my pocket. Anyone for some Warhammer?
Started june 2016, spent around 200€ for welcome bundle, all the adventures, ungoro preorder, rest is packs. Will preorder KotFT for sure and will buy Naxx. If the price is reasonable will get some GvG packs.
I don't mind spending on a game, b/c I don't have the time to play much (haven't logged once in june) and I really like it (big fan of Warcraft). And I don't feel bad because the system is "pay to not grind" not P2W so I can get kicked by f2p guy or I can kick a guy that spent over 2k...

A salute to anyone in that top 35% of votes, you guys are what keep the game free for leeches like me.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.

5euros for the starter pack only and imo i have an impressive collection. But i play a lot and kept playing since early beta.

About 500 EUR over four years of playing.
