Around £60 on drafts back when I was learning that format. I also paid cash for each adventure, the Welcome Bundle and paid for the last two pre-release bundles. Other than that, I've never bought any packs for cash.
Subsequent to the massive uplift in prices for non-US players, I'm not going to invest any more money in the game. Fortunately for me, me collection is pretty buff and I have 26k dust to throw around on release day so I should be just fine. I do like to support F2P games but Blizzard have lost my goodwill with their cash-grab.
As an economist, I can see the price rises for exactly what they are - an attempt to leverage a perceived price inelasticity for their product. Given that the marginal cost of production for each pack is zero (no printing/storage/shipping/retailing costs) a shift in exchange rates is simply not relevant to product pricing. Blizzard's objective in each marketplace is simply to maximise (net-of-tax price * packs sold) and they clearly believe that the increase in price will more than offset the drop in sales caused by the price rise. Any reference made by Blizzard to exchange rate movements is simply an attempt to retain customer goodwill by offering a spurious (yet believable to most) excuse.
Hopefully, enough people (Brits, in my case) will do the same as me and Blizzard will drop their prices as a consequence.
If not then I'll continue to play but my collection will look a little less complete as the years roll by. Eventually, that will probably force me out of Standard but I reckon I'll still be entirely competitive in Wild.
If not, my Gwent collection is starting to look pretty hench...
Yes I noticed the silly £44.99 v $49.99 pre purchase.
I've spent £0 on this game and think it's part of the fun to save up in game gold to buy things. I wouldn't break my f2p status but that's not to imply somehow this is superior to anyone else whether they spend $0 or $2000+
$0 but i have every major legend and all the Top tier decks built for each class, few pet decks too. 10k dust surplus. The trick is to just grind arena runs indefinitely. Once you're good enough at arena, you get free runs, ample dust, and a pack. But if you don't have the time then buying is better lol.
About 150 euros through 2+ years of playing. I don't see why people should be ashamed of how much they spent on this game, IF and a big IF, they feel like they got their money's worth. I got a ton of fun from the game. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But I'd value the fun I got at much more than 150 euros, even though that seems like a lot of money to put into one game because a standard game costs 60 at launch. Hell, if you dropped a grand to craft your favorite decks in golden, if you're having fun, who cares. There's hobbies WAY more expensive than gaming, it's all about the value/enjoyment you think you're getting out of it.
Now, if you're late on bills because you spent too much on HS, or if you're mentally addicted to spending money on it, then sure, try to cut it down.
Bought Nax when it came out and I think I spent either $10 or $20 on GvG packs. If I had the money I'd probably buy packs every time I needed a card for a particular deck, because opening packs is fun and I have really poor impulse control. Don't really have the funds to spend on digital cards though.
when i started playing a couple of years ago only naxx and goblin vs gnomes where out at that time.
I spend around 60 euros to get a collection started, since then i only bought the welcome bundle.
If you dont feel the need to be able to play every single deck every expansion, then hearthstone can be played without spending any money even by casua l play.
Every new expansion that gets announcement start saving up your gold and buy the packs for free and spend your dust on some missing cards.
I used to play MTG Vintage format. Loved to play combo and control with the crazyness you can do in vintage. Sadly I sold all my stuff about 10 years ago. Wanted to restart only to see that all prices tripled or quadruple now...Ancestral Recall used to be 400$. Now its around 1200$. Underground Sea was 40$...now around 300$ or so.
Was looking for alternate TCG and something I could play on the smartphone too (played Rage of Bahamut, Clash of Royals and 7 Knights before) and ended up with Hearthstone 2 months ago. Reason I started to play Hearthstone was the community was big enough and I could play it on PC and smartphone. So I started to spend on EU server around 1000$ because I wanted to try many decks and see what I would prefer more. But after a few weeks I really got pissed with the Meta and RNG in this game. Switched to US server and hoped the meta would be better and spent around 300$ to get a starting deck...only to find out the meta isn't much different.
Now I decided not to spent any at all besides the prepurchase for new expansion. RNG in this game is way too much for me to handle. I should have googled more before spending so much.
5 euros (10packs+legendary offer) and IMO my collection is huge but I play since beta.
I would spend more because I believe developers deserve money for their work, but 60+ euros for 50-60 packs seems way too expensive for me when I have enough gold for most cards. 7 euros for 10 packs, c'mon :(. I know that I'm perhaps unrealistic but I would spend 20-30 euros for 60 packs like once in an expansion, otherwise it's too expensive for me ... I just prefer to farm gold.
Little under $200. I started way late, so rather than try to trudge through building up a decent collection, I spent a little. Having moved to playing HS from Mobile Strike, where spending $1000 a WEEK was common, I don't mind paying a little here and there.
I bought the Kara adventure, a couple $20 bundles, and the preorder for Frozen. Actually waiting for Amazon to load on new phone so I can grab a $50 bundle so I can hopefully get at least 1 new DK card to make a new deck.
Well I was damn sure ill stay F2P for the rest of my life, i mean cmon a childrens card wtf who spends thier hard earned cash on this shit am i right?
Well that sure hit me back in ass after ungoro came, i heard the prices for non-us were abt spike 44.99 to 49.99 i was like this seems to be my only chance so i might as well go for it, for me the main issue was why not spend it on a triple A title, however seeing how addicted i was to hearthstone at the time playing 4 hours daily i was like, "ofc this makes perfect sense, no harm in spending money on something u enjoy this much. " I've always loved playing hs, im a huge warcraft fan as well. To me spending cash on something you spend so much time on seems perfectly reasonable its is as if i were a food enthusiast (which i am btw) i dont mind spending my cash on something ive nvr tried before even if its a bit expensive.
Well thereafter i got the preorder ungoro/classic pack/ got my adventure(only karazan)/ pre order kft/ bought some here and thr.
I guess it all boils down to how you feel in end, if u feel u've wasted your cash here then by all means don't go for it u'll only end up regretting your decision later, if u feel the cash was well spent well why not go for another one.

I think the key is spend what is right for you.

Ive been playing for a month, Spent nothing ( Besides time ) Im usually around rank 7
Playing hs since release. I only bought all the adventures with real money.
0.

On my main account, I preordered two expansions and bought every adventure.

I haven't spent anything yet in RL with Hearthstone yet but been way too busy with WoW and SWTOR so I consider myself a rather casual playere here.

Karazhan and Khadgar. Playing since 2016. I don't wanna spend a dime for this shitty game.
One day this game will stop existing. I can't wait.
At the end of this year I will have spent over 1000 on HS.
I spent between 500-1000 since beta. I'd say it was worth it, considering how much I enjoyed it, being able to play everything!
5 euros (10packs+legendary offer) and IMO my collection is huge but I play since beta.

Played from the start with no breaks, no reason to spend money at all.
rank 10+, bought only half BRM
